Alright, lets talk CV Dracula

Mathias Croncrovist after killing mudslime after mudlime in the hell that was crusades with his bro Leon, comes home and finds out that despite all his faith and goodwill his wife has snuffed it.

Naturally, he goes full fedorarian euphorian and begins to partake in SUPER HERESY ALCHEMY and comes up with a dastardly plan of pulling a VTMB canine and giving god the middle finger so hard he gets the same treatment caine did.

So anyhow, in order to pull this off he needs two stones which are like the first things to come from the Philospher's stone which is THE orignal element on the pedioric table.

Now he's already got one stone, but alas, a faggot Vampire named Walter has the other in a castle and uses it to cast a massive area night field over the domain.

So, he does what a heretic would do, and somehow gets walter to kidnap Leons wife, tell him this has gone down, then Leon goes to save her, meets some alchemy non heretic guy who gives him an alchmedical whip that later becomes the Vampire Killer we all know and love.

So anyhow, during this Mathias iis bedridden and sick, Whether as a result of DEAD WIFE or contracting vampirism Isn't clear I think.

So anyhow, Leon's going around messing up Not-catlevania populated with monsters via magical and usual set up a dungeon way means, and he finds his wife has been given the kiss by walter, so apparantly he's got to bitch whip his still pure waifu so her soul can make the whip into the Vampire Killer, which is a whip so Kickass it has the blessings of god on it, so Evil ain't shit (We have no idea how this managed to get YAHWEHs attention, it just did) And with this Leon goes to beat up walter and does, BUT OH SHIT, MATHIAS LIED YOUR WIFE DIED and Walter is eaten by Mathias using his Crimson stone to eat Walter up and become a vampire, and this was so super heretical god ban hammered him from dying Caine style (Even though we have no idea how this actually happened, he just became a vampire so this followed suite.)

Now, a few things to mention here:

As a Vampire, Mathias has power over death and before you say no brainer, I actually meant he has power over the actual grim reaper because of his middle finger to god, in which they joined in a mutally benefical freindship/contract which I will explain later.

Now moving on to the "if he has death, can't he just kill everyone?" Nope, he has Power over death, meaning he can get the guy to pop up and force people into th bag, but he can't Control him outright.

So Leon tells him to suck a bag of Altar boy cocks, mathias fucks off to the hair dresser and illegal passport guy to become Dracula and leaves Rainbow butterfly death to kill Leon, which fails immensly, and Leons mad extends to an entire monster hunting Order or augamented men with hearts of fire who fuck up mathiases shit later on.

Anyhow, the feud goes on for a while then Dracula finds a 10/10 arayan necrophile waifu lookalike and he's happy for a while, even gives birth to a Dhamphire kid with her, then MUH HUMANITY Attacks with inquisiton and she's off to the burning steak.

Dracula was so anally butt-blasted he extended that one power he has that drives weak willed men insane and grings out their blackest desire (That Estate agent Jew in the bram stokers novel is an example of a victim of this) into a massive area radius known as Draculas curse which fucked Europe up silly as he and death raped the fuck out of everything for the sole purpose of telling god and man they can suck a fat one.

Now then, time to dicuss what Castlevania is.

Castlevania or Castle Dracula is the Castle which Dracula resides in that pops up every century as a part of Dracula's reincarnation cycle because he told god to fuck off.

However, the Castle is not a Castle but the mere embodiment of the Counts Power, and as such it is a living thing of chaos, which is why it is different in every CV game, the Castle is basically a Familiar.

But wait, it gets better.

Every monster you fought in CV?

Every single one?

All of those monsters are Dracula's familiars.

But wait, there's more!

Death actively opens up portals to the abyss and hell to fill up the Castle with these monsters, which in turn make contracts with the dark lord and also become his, and this benefits death because this way, he can do his job.

Now even better is that after multiple events of Dracula doing this he isn't just an undead Caine wannabe, he's an Undead Rothschild tcycoon OPPOSITE TO GOD. As in something that in the christian patheron isn't even possible (Ask your presit and they'll almost always say Satan/luvcifer is not an opposite to god in any shape or form for some reason or the other) this is the reason why Belmonts and the church have to immeidatelty raise alarm when this fucker wakes up on schedule or worse, early thanks to edgy goth kids who buy necromonicons on ebay because if they leave him around, he simply gets more and more power by doing nothing, and worse off anything killed in his domain doesn't go to heaven, but to him which end up as his familars/monster meaning some of the enemies in CV are reincarnated peopled who have died in the vicinity of Castlevania, which is a LARGE field area, that isn't just the castle, but pretty much the area where it turns night thanks to the Obsidian stone.

Did I forget to mention at some point or the other Dracula alsmot mastered the schools of destrucion magic, and even met with Lucifer?

Now, this is all good and all, Dracula is OP as fuck but why has this not shown in the Games?

Nigga was a goddanmed tactitian first and foremost, rarely saw much battle overall, hence why he forces you through his castle to wear you down before he descends on you for the kill.

At least that would've been a smart plan if not for the fact that the castle is so huge you could take detours and get stronger so when you fight him you overpowerhim completely, and of course, it doesn't help that he insists on manifesting his power (the castle) as a familiar in in the first place, when he could just pull a Helling Alucard walking rape castle and curbstomp your ass with animu levels of curbstomp armstrong ability.

The second reason for this is because by canon, Dracula stopped giving a fuck after SOTN because he simply gave up on molding up his middle finger to god after he kinda realizes he's buirned through two women and can't see them ever unless he's dead and stuck in this place called the abyss which is like just inbetween purgatory and hell

I mean you're an opposite to the god, who is resurrected thanks to human evil craving your presence on the earth to kill everyone and everything because everyone is a prick who backstabs everyone and you just got tired of living forever, basically Dracula ends up hating his new job position and ends up doing it because he can't exactly quit the job, he's fucked up bad, not to mention if he waits anyhow he comes back every century too, and that contract with death still means he's got to build more Castlevania real easte for the monsters within as death keep spuring them in and as death kills and reaps souls to also join up to the unholy religon of Castlevania to be reincarnated as monsters in his castle, it's this endless powerlevel cycle.

Now if you've played SOTN and AOS and DOS you'll know Dracula has Soul steal dominous and basically all the powers hells ihabitants at his dispoal, you'll understand he's basically Alucard but effectively even worse, because he's not just made up of people he's eaten but D&D monster manual tier content to.

The closest Dracula has ever come to trying in a fight is Judgement, in which that little faggot galanoth sends a poorly reskinned Curse of darkness death to usurp him when he was at full power, Castlevania 3 when he was also at full power, and Order of Ecclesia, where he had a reason to try because a ceratain someone stole his power to draw power from his castle to Transform into flabberjaster monsters which was basically like getting silenced as a mage in D&D, he could still Nuke people with pure edge though usign dark meggido.

But to effectively summarize a CV dracula that tries in a fight is basically the equivalent of fighting a D&D 3.5 epic level wizard and alchmist with all the epic level feat spells, the Entire D&D monstrer manual + Soma cruz's gameplay style except he doesn't use 3 equipment slots for souls but as many as he wants, meaning Hellsing alucard who can hela wit hspells, heal wit hblood draining, heal by stealing chuks of your soul and eating them, who can also call upon partial use of the grim reaper itself anytime thanks to the crimson stone, and a DMC game.

Thank fuck he's an idiot tactician.

And here are his powers which is what he basically has without resorting to Dominance souls he has in stock.

Summoning his Demon Castle: Wherever Dracula goes, his dominion of the Crimson Stone allows the ancestral Demon Castle (also known as "Castlevania") to appear anywhere, and anytime he desires. In short, as long as he lives, Castlevania will never be destroyed.

Immortality: Thanks to Walter's soul, Dracula is as good as immortal. Although he CAN be killed, he will simply be reincarnated, after either 100 years, although premature reincarnations are not uncommon.

Invulnerability: Dracula possesses superhuman endurance. Typical weapons would almost certainly not harm him, similarly to Walter or they would inflict minimal damage. However, certain weapons and measures, such as Shanoa's "Dominus" attack, the Vampire Killer, Hunter's Whip, the Alucard Sword and Spear are capable of harming and killing him. Dracula is also (usually) invulnerable to attacks to any part of his body excluding his head. In his demon form, he seems to have lost this power. Dracula's resurrection also depends on the number of people in the world who desire his return and.between 1797 to 1999, he was resurrected more frequently.

Power of Dominance: Dracula's primary ability allows him to absorb defeated monster's souls and enslave them. This power was the one that Soma Cruz, Dracula's incarnate inherited at the year 1999 at his destruction. While Soma can only summon monsters for a short amount of time due to his low magical power, Dracula can fully utilise this ability with infinite power from the stream of Chaos he commands. It's also said that Death guards the souls Dracula absorbs for guarding the areas of Castlevania.

Eternal Night: Thanks to the Ebony Stone, it is always nighttime in the area surrounding Dracula's castle.

Shapeshifting and Teleportation: Dracula favors confusing his enemies by teleporting to bats or black light to appear anywhere and catch his victims off guard. He also favors changing into multitudes of vampire bats with a large one as his main bat or into clouds of mist for long range teleportation. In Dracula X Chronicles, it's said he can transform into a bat, wolf or mist. For shorter movement, Dracula favors "walking" by floating on a runic circle that lets him move very slowly. He has been known to turn into:
Bat: He turns into many Bats and is his favored offensive transformations. It is called Bat Moon once and allows Dracula to slam all his bats at an enemy to kill them.
Wolf: For stealth or land based attacks, Dracula turns into a wolf and has the speed and power to match or even overpower a werewolf.
Mist: Dracula turns into a mist and evades detection. He sometimes favors turning into poison mist when he does so.

Teleporting: Dracula's favored strategy that confuses an enemy while he hits him with spells. Some versions of his teleporting has him blending to black lights, others turns him into many bats, but the function and strategy is one in same.

Demonic Wings: Dracula can turn his cape into wings that can allow flight in a one on one battle against an agile vampire hunter. His wings allow fast flight and can be use as a melee attack by swiping the cape in its wing form. Dracula rarely does this, however. Simon Belmont (Chronicles version), Richter Belmont (Dracula X Chronicles, Third Form), Hector (first form and transition between the two battles) and Shanoa are humans that have seen Dracula's wings.

Obedient Animals: Some creature of the night are sensitive to the flow of darkness and attracted to its source. Those attracted will not hesitate to serve the controller of the darkness. Some of these creatures are bats, wolves, owls, slimes, ravens, crows, black panthers, worms, caterpillars, toads, frogs, and many other smaller but numerous creatures have entered and lived in Dracula's presence.

Blood Draining: Dracula, being a vampire, can bite and drink the blood of his victims. His spell Dark Metamorphosis can enhance his blood draining ability. He can also drain his victim's blood by mere touch of his victims.

Dark Metamorphosis is aslo a D&D thing if I recall.

Power over Humans: Dracula's power has been shown to have an effect on human behavior. Dracula's Curse, in fact, drove many humans insane, and sent them into a murderous rage. Dracula has also shown abilities to control humans without possessing them, for example, in Harmony of Despair, his charm spell, when making contact with a female, would temporarily strip them of their will and put them under his control.

Being Low level around this guy is a nono, you'd fail all your saves

Soul Steal: A spell that many fear. Soul Steal is used by Dracula and to kill and absorb their energy for Dracula's use. The one version of the spell has an area of effect around the caster. It can effect multiple victims multiple times in one cast. Another version drains the life out of Dracula's victims by a mere touch, which is why many fear this spell. It is also referred to as Life Steal.

It's like fighting a Demi-lich BUT WORSE

True Form(s): When facing a strong and dangerous opponent, Dracula can transform into his more powerful true form to try and even the odds. He uses this strategy when it is too risky to use Demonic Megiddo. He has used a huge variety of true forms over the centuries, that typically follow a "monster vampire" theme. Most forms of Dracula make him bigger and more frightening to taunt his victims. Dracula sometimes collects enough power to transform a third time, such times are when Dracula battled Trevor Belmont, Richter Belmont, and Christopher Belmont.

You know how the room becomes distored or leads into another dimension when he does this?
That's the castle's power being drawn back into him to pull it off, now imagine if he took the entire fuckign thing in, killer living Monster manual castle with unlimited equip slots as death chases you trying to get you in the bag

Blood Hydro Storm: Perhaps as a way of mocking of the Belmont's powers, Dracula, when facing Richter Belmont, can make it rain blood shooting as faster than bullets, and all who is caught in its way will suffer certain death. It should also be noted that this spell is favored to Demonic Megiddo due to its faster casting time with less risk of interruption. Dracula is seemingly vulnerable to the spell too, as he keeps an area around him rain-free.

Meteor Shower: During the events in Circle of The Moon, Dracula displayed various powerful magic spells, one of which summons a barrage of flaming meteors to rain down from the sky onto his enemy.
Demonic Megiddo: This is the ultimate dark spell. Two version of this attack are in existence. The first, and more common version has a shorter charging time and allows Dracula to charge demonic runes that become a giant black fireball. Dracula can throw it to his victim and will incinerate his victims with demonic fire. The second version is a gigantic explosion, with Dracula as its nucleus. The explosion radiates from him, killing every being instantly upon touching it. However, the second version requires a longer time to charge, giving enough time to either escape or defeat him before he can use it while draining Dracula's health. A successful cast however, will ensure that it will be active for as long as Dracula desires. This is why using Dominus until he decides to use this attack would not actually kill him.

I forget where but it's actually sourced that this is actually a magical nuke, radiation and everything.

Power over Death: By the use of the Crimson Stone, Dracula gained dominion over the Grim Reaper Death, and with him his service and powers. Death can open the deepest of the gates of Hell to summon demons of various kinds for Dracula's army. He is very loyal to Dracula and is said to be Dracula's confidant and close friend. At a time when Jonathan Morris and Charlotte Aulin faced him, Dracula has several combination attacks with Death.
Flame Sickle: Death summons many sickles, which Dracula turns into many Dark Infernos. Demonic Megiddo (with Death): Dracula can have Death turn a scythe, where he can slam the scythe and create a smaller version of Demonic Megiddo. True Dracula's Scythes: When Death or Dracula was defeated, Death offered his soul to be absorbed by Dracula. Dracula used Soul Steal and absorbed Death to become True Dracula. In his demon form, one of True Dracula's attacks was to summon Death's Scythe and toss it at either Johnathan Morris or Charlotte Aulin.

Instant Army: Dracula's dark powers affect even the dead, and are able to create personal "golems" out of skeletons of various kinds, a variety of elemental golems, and can also animate inanimate objects, such as armor or furniture. However, this instant army is not as powerful as summoned demons from the netherworld or the underworld.

AUTOPILOT NECROMANCY

Chaotic Realm: The Chaotic Realm is the realm of the source of darkness, and only Dracula can enter this specific realm. Dracula and his reincarnation, Soma Cruz, is the only one recorded to ever enter the Chaotic Realm. This realm also sports demons of various kinds that will willingly support Dracula's cause.

So yeah, Undead Tycoon rothschild contractor alternate religion that's too tired for this shit.

Castle looked TOO futuristic from the inside, with pseudo-Tron lines and shit, instead of fabulous old architecture and engineering with magic mixed in. I was expecting assloads of candles or lamps, nor modern-ish lightning.

I like the English dub more on the basis that it does subtlety better than the extravagant and bombastic Japanese dub, which is probably the biggest difference between English and Japanese directed voice acting, though not something we see often because of dubs which were already poor quality dubbing already Japanese material. In the first episode Japanese Dracula is fucking mad after raining blood and glass, English Dracula is on the verge between breaking down and trying to hold himself in.

Have you ever watched an anime where people talked in a more subdued voice? Or showed more subtle mannerisms in their speech such as minor breaths and variations in volume? The thing is that Japanese dubs tend to exaggerate their grunts way too much as well. When barely-awake English Trevor approaches Gresit he's mumbling to himself out of frustration because why would he be talking to himself out loud, whereas Japanese Trevor is just talking to himself out loud.

I find this fascinating because most anime dubs are average or unskilled English voice actors trying to dub Japanese material by trying to emulate the original Japanese performance as much as possible, whereas here we have skilled voice actors performing English material with English voice direction, while the Japanese dub just sounds overly Japanese in comparison with characters whose personality you can gauge by their voice instantly because of how many voice acting performances into stereotypes (not that this isn't the case with Western voice acting, but it's undeniably more apparent with Japanese voice acting). English dubs are considered cancer for good reason, but I'd like to see more of these kind of situations where you have proper English voice direction as well.

CVIII intro mentions how the Belmonts were excommunicated before the Pope called them back to kick Dracula's ass, but it's possible it was just part prejudice from commoners assuming the Belmonts were like the other families.

I remain glad I'm not the only one who noticed that habit between both dubs. I mean it remains on a hit or miss on the dialogue depending on.
A. The scene
B. The character
C. The CV and how well they can potray that current feel and build up on how it all plays. The other thing that can usually make or break a scene is also what type of tone that character has. Either being heavy due to either Ethnic or Class of their status quo.

If either can't pull off those three major points correctly it's going to sound very awkward and potentially muddle the entire mood of that scene if not the character itself.

Sadly 99% of English animu dubs are terrible because currently there's like 2 studios that are currently in the business of dubbing anime and the talent pool is like 20 people that are shared between them. That said I just checked out the English voices, and it was yet another pleasant-ish surprise. The power of proper voice direction is nothing to scoff at it seems.

I love anime to bits, but I can agree with this. Japanese excel at displaying strong emotions and some kinds of subtle acting, but it's rare to find voice acting where a character is both furious and barely holding back the tears or sorrow, or doing the intimidating low-voice threats without sounding smug or yandere.
The only things I could nitpick about is that they mumble at times in a somewhat annoying way, and Trevor has that American intonation you find in movies where they sound confident or are flaunting, can't really point it out in written form, like "you got~ANOTHER THING~coming…", like you'd hear on some cheesy action movie or some teen show, it sounds kinda out of place here.

I haven't really watched a lot of dubbed anime, but there's pretty much two VAs that I actually liked listening to.
Richard Epicar and that one guy who dubbed allmight. Basically dudes who sound like really burly manly men, mainly because they're the type of people who seem to actually enjoy themselves and they're usually the voicing the best characters anyways.
The rest, I don't really know. Some really stink, some don't fit, others are okay but nothing special.

Trevor's sass was a bit too much at times, that's one definite Western cliché right there. That and 'two guys are fighting intensely but both suddenly freeze at the same time for some reason, as one guy abruptly punches the other guy in the face'.

Plus, it might also be related with direction being driven by a Westerner or a Jap. If the animation was directed by a Jap, then the scenes with strong emotions would be fitting with Japanese dub in mind, because they'd precisely try to emphasize and make the voice acting sound good, while the Westerner will find a way to work around this, and viceversa with this animation that has a Western direction and feel.
There are exceptions where the Jap/Western dub will be as good or better than the original, of course, like Cowboy Bebop or Baccano.

My biggest gripe would be the soundtrack. Fuck Nextflix for using this repetitive music that's also used in Daredevil and similar series. The opening sequence is neat, but the song is generic as hell. What's with modern series and games and such generic music? Leitmotifs exist for a reason, even if they weren't gonna use classic Castlevania music, at least do orchestra, not this booming, repetitive 3-note music.

Ah, Just like the Original Translation for Symphony of the Night then. The use of olde english dialect, references to the bible and such were actually only present in the English dub of SOTN and the orignal Japanese stuff is infact, anime tier as fuck for the Richter V Dracula Scene. The PSP SOTN remake only drove home how out of place the Japanese lines were what, using Sasuke's English voice actor for fucking Alucard of all people and other such content.

It's animated with English voice acting in mind. The mouth animations even match the speech, which isn't the norm with Japanese animation.

The animation seems really weird to me, it's something almost directly down the middle of American and Japanese animation techniques/style but it never let's one style take dominance. The only other examples I can think of that seem like it are Avatar and that Netflix Voltron cartoon, but those look more like Western animation imitating anime.

The 360 version has lower loading times, and the Dreamcast version has a few added rooms, but ultimately you should just play the PS1 version. It's easy to emulate, runs on anything (even a Raspberry Pi), and has the best voice acting. There's also the version in Dracula X Chronicles on the PSP, but it doesn't have anything additional for it.

Great, I just played the Lecarde Chronicles, they were better Metroid likes than Igarashi ever made, a bit lacking in polish, soundtrack is mostly remasters and some of the abilites felt tacked on, all in all it felt like the game that Simon's Quest wanted to be but absolutely couldn't. If Mig's next game isn't paid he either better be well off or an idiot because he could easily go places. I enjoyed both Lecarde Chronicles more than most Castlevania games, and I'm glad that the art is more Ayami Kojima and less stock standard anime that the series drifted back into, for some fucking reason.

Netflix already ordered a second series, this time in an 8 episode size. Honestly, I would like it better if Netflix were to order something more along the size of 20 episodes for a 24 episode spread.

I feel like its short length kind of rushes what we get from the anime, we're telling the back story of Castlevania III without delving into any real details. Trevor finds Sypha and then finds Alucard, and then it ends, and the actual fight against Dracula is left for series 2.

The fact that series 2 is going to be 8 episodes has me a little concerned, because I'm hoping they don't end it in series 2. I feel like it would have been a better idea had they started with Castlevania I instead. This story talks about how the Belmonts were accused of witchcraft and hunted down by the church, and the what not, and I'd rather see the story that forged the Belmont name. It felt a little weak when the one death they really glossed over was the one that everyone wanted to see, the Bishop certainly deserved far worse than he received.

The art style is fucking great, though, and Vlad looks better than I'd hoped.

Sorry dood, but that's part of Castlevania's lore. If you'd ever played the original Castlevania on the MSX, you might have seen the video cutscene where a group of priests murder a blonde-haired woman in coldblood. That's always been explained the same way, that they murdered Dracula's wife. That's part of the story of Castlevania. It's been retold in like half of the games.

In Castlevania they show her on an altar and her blood being drawn, and in Symphony of the Night they show her being burned at the stake. In this series they show her body falling apart after being burned at the stake, while telling Alucard not to act on her behalf. Then Dracula declares war on Wallachia, and Alucard tries to stop him. This is stuff from Castlevania III, and it fits.

That's not really "anti-Christian," so much as it is a commentary on the witch hunts of Salem. There were people who'd done nothing wrong, save possess things that the priests did not understand, nor did they try to, and they declared many young women (and even some men) to be witches and killed them. Castlevania brings that up in Wallachia, and how Vlad's wife was executed (without a trial) as a witch for having apparatus that the church could not understand.

It's definitely not anti-white, and it's not really anti-Christian. It's a commentary on an actual historical thing that happened. It's dark storytelling, and it establishes how Dracula, after having been defeated by the Belmonts several times before, went from being passive and cynical to avoid further Belmont intrusion, to casting care to the wind and deciding fuck it, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

this series was probably THE MOST FAITHFUL vidya adaptation we've ever gotten. I would have liked to have seen more variety in the monster horde with more classicvania monsters like mermen, medusa heads, zombies, skeletons, etc. and it could have used some orchestral versions of some Castlevania III music but aside from that this was AMAZING. also that fight between Alucard and Trevor at the end was AWESOME!
10/10 definitely watching season 2 when it comes out.
