At least some people on Holla Forums have always thought that Crash 1 is too hard. Every single Crash thread ever has people bitching about the first game, and the only real difference is the more challenging level design and the focus on actual platforming. It might have happened on every Crash thread ever made except maybe the post-remake threads (because they don't want to be on the same boat as the people that even they consider to be casuals). The answer is that the plebs are everywhere.

The remakes are inferior shit, but as far as I know there is nothing about them that should make them harder than the originals. I assume that people just play Crash 1 first, and then they get destroyed because they can't play video games to save their lives. It's also safe to say that most people that bought them just heard about the originals, and never played actual video games before.

If they can't beat Crash 3, they should just self-suicide themselves. Even babies can beat Crash 3.

The only thing hard about Crash 1 is the gem collecting and the fact that your lives reset back to four every time you start the game.

True, Crash 2 & 3 had a few things that allieviated some of the frustration for breaking all the boxes, the biggest being that Checkpoints actually save your total up to that point whereas if you died once in a level of Crash 1 you'd pretty much would have to reset to start again if you were going for 100%.

People are finding it hard because instead of using Cylinder colliders they're using capsule colliders. This means that the character slips a little bit from edges and has a harder time landing jumps on them.

A good dev would've actually known that most old platformers use Cylinder colliders and would've tried to fix this in this remake, but it seems like these guys decided not to.

Also a few jumps are weird and not frame perfect to the old ones, which CAN make it feel a bit more weird.

This is mostly why people are finding it hard.

Actually, every character in Crash 1 thru 3 has those animu eyes, even the doctors. More specifically, their ingame models lacked them to save memory, but their closeup facial models do have them, I suppose that was because they wanted to show more emotions with their faces and dotted eyes looked like shit. The CTR Babes have them because their only interactions are about shoving their faces into the camera. They also have textured cleavage, just because Naughty Dog could do so. I believe they removed those eyes in later iterations for character-design reasons.

The remake of Crash 1 is actually easier than the original. In the original, if you wanted to break all the boxes in a level you had to do it without dying once. Didn't matter if you got a checkpoint or not. I remember having to reset levels all the time just cause I fucked up once. The remake fixes this problem.

I haven't played the remake but I am currently playing the Crash games on emulator for the first time. From what I hear is the Checkpoints save the box's you collected and you get to save when completing a level even if you don't collect the Gems. Just that alone is enough to make the game way more forgiving. Also I find at least with my shitty old gamepad on PC Crash will on occasion randomly move left or right even when I don't press the direction (it might be because the deadzone on my anlylouge is starting to give out). Which royalty screw me on side scrollers and on levels where you need to run from the bolder. None the less, I am considering getting N' Sane trilogy for the fact that I like the art and it sounds way more forgiving and fun despite the flaws in the physics.

However, the analogue controls are improved and the check point system is improved elevating the frustration and the improved aesthetics balance out the changes. I've heard it compared to Super Mario All-stars (which also doesn't have perfect 1to1 game physics). Being that I am having issues with my controller, and that I am not loyal to the original being free of the bias of inherent nostalgia goggles. The remake looks comfy, therefore I am considering getting it. Only skimmed the thread, have been off the internet playing the remake in all my spare time since it came out, because Crash was my favorite game since the day the original came out.

The guy saying that the changes in physics are negligible is correct. Don't get me wrong, it's noticeable in some parts, makes a couple of jumps harder, but really only a few times. Bouncing on the crates on the water in Air Crash to get to the secret warp room is where I noticed beyond a doubt that it was different, but there were a few moments in Crash 1 where I suspected as well. Still, it's very minor, and if anything, it makes it just slightly harder, which is good, since they made 1 easier, and 2 and 3 are easy to begin with. In retrospect, this explains why it was much harder to walk on the ropes in the bridge levels in Crash 1, but you shouldn't be doing that anyway, cheater. I managed to get the platinums in them regardless.

I don't like most of the changes they made, I think the voice acting is almost all worse, and I don't care for the minor changes to character design. Listening to the music tracks back to back, I think they made most of them worse, but I didn't notice while actually playing. I do like a couple of them better though.

These changes are all very minor, however, and adding relics makes up for it. The difficulty for those makes up for making Crash 1 easier by letting you die while getting Clear Gems. On the other hand, the Colored Gems are slightly harder since you still can't die and need to complete the Bonus Rounds, but once I realized that you actually were allowed to die in the Bonus Rounds, that helped a lot. But I still spent so long getting so frustrated trying to get Platinums in Native Fortress, Generator Room, and The Lab, among a couple others, that I gave myself tennis elbow from gripping the controller so hard for so long. Most of the relics honestly aren't that hard, but about 10 are hard as shit. Did manage to get them all in only a few days though.

Still going through and getting the relics in Crash 2 and 3 now. There are more levels that have very difficult relics in 2 than there are in 1 I think, but the levels themselves are much easier. A lot of the relics in 1 would be difficult because you'd be dying a lot if you tried to rush, 2 is more about finding ways to shave those seconds. The first game's levels feel much more suited to relics, with the cycles in the levels lining up surprisingly well and making the game feel like the relics were always intended. Really makes me appreciate the differences in the two games, and the more classic style in the original. Really incredibly tight level design, where you have to get every step correct if you want everything to work out. 2 usually gives you much more room to maneuver, literally and figuratively. And that's fine too, but both styles have their place.

3 is 3 and while it took me 15 years to get all platinums the first time, more recently I was able to do it in about a week. Now I'm going at about the same pace. Since relics aren't new here it doesn't feel as new to me and I don't care as much.

Also, playable Coco is nice. But I wish they just let me use her in every level. She rides Pura in 3, so I don't get why I'm not allowed to use her in the Hog and Polar levels in 1 and 2.

Oh, and I hate what they did to the Jetpack controls. It's not objectively bad, but they should have given me the option to at least switch to classic controls if I wanted. Inverting helps a bit but not enough.

Are you seriously saying CTR isn't as good as Bash or Twinsanity? I mean Twinsanity is a respectable effort and I like Bash too, but CTR is one of the greatest games of all time. Of all time!

I wish this game wasn't as successful as it was. Activision owns the rights to Crash, not Naughty Dog, so if a new one gets made on the success of this remake collection it'll have the same problems the remake collection had.

This is because they used use Crash 3's physics but fine-tuned the distance and height of this jump for Crash 1 and 2. The max distances you can achiever are correct dispute the acceleration. Also the player's collision is a oval compared to a square. Its noticeable but not game breaking. In fact because of the collision you can jump farther in some circumstance. The changes is allegedly negligible and the remake is allegedly very fun. Believe it or not it just works.

That last one could have easily been avoidable if they programmed based on object instead of using the pill hitboxes, you're never supposed to use them as actual fucking tangible things, you attach them to objects and designate an action for a character, so as soon as you touch it, the character jumps straight up automatically while you still have a flat surface. The only thing you really have to do is measure the hitbox and the item, then snap it based on that. It's not fucking hard to optimize a fucking platform jesus christ this shit is amateur, and this is coming FROM an AMATEUR.

Also you have an "Air" state and a "Ground" state, so as long as the capsule is within acceptable horizontal measurements, you won't have a glitch where you "jump" on the capsule instead of the object because you can set the jump to happen during the "ground" state instead of the "in the air" state.

Having both of these states is also necessary to implement stuff like double jumps and limited air attacks per jump, so they have no excuse.

The bridge levels aren't significantly harder unless you were a filthy cheater who just walked on the ropes. Which you can still do, but that is harder. If you're playing the level normal it isn't significantly harder.

All the sound in the game is new. I don't think I like any of the voices as much as I did in the original. N. Brio in particular bugs me. Cortex is very noticeable since he talks the most. Crash's sound effects are pretty close but they are different.

It's still very faithful. That difference in the video is real, but minor. The game certainly has bigger problems.

This game has much better physics than Twinsanity. Twinsanity is fun because it's as close as you got to a PS2 Crash game and it has great presentation, but the physics are shit compared to the original, while the remakes are very close, though not perfect.
