fwiw I enjoyed Berseria, but I actually prefered Zesteria for its in-depth item/skill system and faster combat (at least in the sense that battles were over quicker). Of course I didn't buy either one.

Magilou was the only really interesting character… partly because she's the only one who's truly broken, and stays broken all the way through to the end. Everyone else has their edginess tempered or finds resolution or peace to their character archs.

Magi killed the sensei who broke her heart, and her heart breaks all the more for the revenge she took. Maybe that was intentional to provide contrast to Velvet who did find redemption and peace, but it also made Magilou the far more interesting and "realistic" (in a sense) character.

Berserias system was just grinding. You grind skill masteries and grind upgrade materials for the best gear. What you equip only really mattered for more stats.

How could you ever forget about the "Armatize or get raped" build, or perhaps the "Armatize or get raped" build. I know it might be considered a bit of a jokey gimmick, but I really enjoyed my playthrough with the "Armatize or get raped" build too. Baba showed true genius by designing the game in such a way that you could play your favorite characters in these myriad of exciting ways.

I'm not even talking about Armatus. I'm talking about whether or not you go for -80% cast times by building up 2 10x stacks on a set of characters, or maybe you build a 12 stack for Iron body (super armor) at >70% health. Or maybe you like to build for critical hits, so you make a double-9-row giving you 20% chance to do 8x damage, then you run a set of 3 6-stacks on top of that, so every 10th hit does 6x damage.

There are quite a few more combos you can put into the skills. Note that the skill comboes of both characters in Armatus, so you could set up for multiple different combos based on which seraphim you combine with. With a certain NG+ battle action you could even set it so that stacks are calculated accross both characters (so a 5 stack on each of the same skill becomes a 10 stack combined

And of course with all of this, you get to select which exact skill you want to stack, so maybe that -80% cast speed build stacks it all on Sheeld (iron body during cast) to make an unstoppable chain cast build, or that crit build stacks one of the element damage+s to further multiply the damage output.

Really armatus is not fundementally different from your base form. So you just treat the game as having 4 characters (the armatized forms) instead of 6 (the non-armatized forms that you ignore 98% of the game). Otherwise it still works the same, with different artes for different situations, and the equipment skills determining 90% of your power.

You are overstating the importance of this pretty massively. Even on the hardest difficulties, there is very little need to actually fuck with skills extensively. Certainly not to the extent that they would be considered "builds". You're also severely understating how garbage and overpowered armatization is.

If you want to get through the latter parts of Hexen Isle, or you don't want to be stuck taking several minutes per encounter, it's pretty necessary to build decently with skills. A good build vs a bad one can be the difference of about 20x damage efficiency (5x speed and about 4x damage combined for a pretty basic build). Did you actually play through the bonus dungeons in either game?

We're only talking about Zestiria, but fuck no. That game was dogshit - nothing about it was good- and the quicker I could get away from it the better. Rokurou was actually edgier in his backstory than as you see him ingame too. The only time where he was edgy rather than chill was whenever his brother showed up. If anything, turning into a demon made him more of a goofball. Eizen himself wasn't even very edgy to begin with, just more of a cool guy who's actually a gigantic nerd. In execution Berseria really underplayed the villain/edgy stuff for everyone except for Velvet, who herself also develops to to be a bit less ARTORIUSU REEEEEEEE. None of the party members became worse people or more villainous as the plot progressed. If the game were to be more accurate about its marketing, it'd say that the game's about a group of characters who are simply willing to screw others over to do the right thing, while in the setting they're also justified in doing so given how things are.

Honest question about Berseria: Can you adjust the combat camera? I like the old Tales view where you can watch combat from the side, but Berseria's behind the character view kinda bothered me. This was in the demo, which doesn't let you adjust any options. Is it the same in the full game?
