You shouldn't be able to see regular servers in the list. Are all of your filters off?

Why is hosts file editing needed? I've played online before numerous times and have not needed to do this. Is this some sort of cooperative multiplayer campaign mode?

Choose not to save it as a txt file.

Specifically for piratefags to play they can't use the standard server, editing the host overrides the location of taleworld's authentication server and replaces it with one we're running. If you want to play with piratefags then you have to do it also.

The change in text just makes it easier to find the server?

It makes it possible to find the server, not easier. It just points your game at a different location from normal for finding servers and authenticating CD-Keys.

No you use the hosts file in System32, that works fine. You just overwrite it at the system level instead.

I can't change hosts either, access denied, and changing user access to full modify is also denied. And saving it as a .exe makes it an application, instead of "file" and saving off of text editor makes it a .txt. I guess i'll try your stupid editor tool later when I have free time. Too bad people with the game have to resort to this to play on the server.

Use a program set to 'administrator privalleges', assuming your account actually has those.
Blame piratefags, it's necessary for them to play. Frankly though if they don't bother showing up we won't jump through so many hoops to make it pirateable in future.

Did you make sure the host file says exactly what was above? For example you haven't accidentally started it with ?

Here's the workaround I use

1-copy the file to your desktop
2-edit the file on the desktop
3-copy the file back into the original folder
4-overwrite it
5-?????
6-Profit!

Do fags want to drop the whole hassle of messing with the hosts file? This means piratefags will probably not be able to play maybe if they can dig up a keygen they'll be fine but legitfags will literally only have to install the game and join the server from the server browser (i.e. like joining any other server).

Anecdotally there are a lot more legitfags than piratefags and given that the game is currently on sale that might also be a factor. On the other hand there are anons who have already gone to the bother of pirating it who will probably want to play again tomorrow.

Seems like the GoG version (pirated or bought )can join any server, the problems might start once multiple people join our server with the same cd key. Should that happen, it would just be a matter of changing the cd key and bob's your uncle

That said, I held back a siege of 2500 peoples. One of my own elite knights held back the entire enemy army on the wall for 5 minutes (because he was stuck in a hole next to the stairs), while my archers were raining death. He is the hero Pendor deserves.

If you're still around try googling for a CD-Key, though the GoG version shouldn't need one at all. If you've done the hosts file correctly it should work.

Nice try cavalryfag but seriously it's called easymode for a reason, and why most servers actually ban couching and lances altogether. They are too easy to exploit and hit detection doesn't favor those on foot even when by all rights they should have got the hit in first, so unless you are a complete terribad it's impossible to do bad on cavalry with lances.

You can stop a horse with pretty much any weapon, the problem is that lag will mean you won't stop the horse and end up dead most times cause of shit hit detection.

That and most Warband players are little bitches who get mad at anything that isn't melee only. Hell the top Siege server has a huge nerf on archers because of whining meleefags.

You can't stop a horse with any weapon, I recall NPCs stopping my horse straight (not killing it) with a lance but I never figured how.

Because infantry are poor at countering them yes, competent infantry have little to fear from a head on 1v1 vs cavalry (doubly so if they have throwing weapons). It's mostly getting stabbed in the back/flanks that's the danger.

It's a siege server so I think it's getting shot on ladders. Still it's fucking dumb, archers are again little threat head-on to a competent meleefag.

It's also worth noting that that siege server only plays maps compatible with their terrible mod that gives certain fags the ability to use useless siege weapons and a meme hot air balloon at the cost of inferior maps. The old Wolfpack server was far superior.

Well I am going have to call half bullshit on that one, at least from a vanilia perspective since it depends heavily on the faction as most infantry in game don't have shit that can deal with cavalry unless they got gold to buy the stuff they need to be effective. Few exceptions though are ones that start with pike weapons or have cheap ass throwing stuff.
But in general I would say cavalry are a bit OP as they get a bit too much for free. Or probably infantry are too UP cause their stuff costs way too much for what it is, whatever way you look at it. tl;dr gold costs fucks infantry over way too much to help level the playing field.

Honestly I think you could do away with the gold system entirely and just have players select from 4 or 5 standard loadouts. Or have presets with regards to armour (naked, light, medium, heavy) and select weapons the way Floris tournaments do it: You get 3 points, each weapon type costs 1 point and you can make it better by using another point. A horse also costs a pick.
Maybe since it's MP make it 4 points per player, or even something adjustable per server. That could work.

Pretty much is the gold system that fucks things up and a points based loadou system would be ideal.
Only time I think we got some "balance" and mostly everyone was happy was when I made it so that gold earnings were high from kills, but you had fuck all to start out with. Made Mid-Late game fun at the expense of making cavalryfags bully victims earlygame cause they had no horses. Still meant that infantryfags could grind up some gold for good gear first.

Have tried all the common fixes (Load textures on demand, update drivers, updating DirectX, Changing DirectX type loading, removing/renaming the config file, etc) as well as various esoteric ones like "set texture resolution to 50 and activate vertical sync" or "turn cheats on"

It always crashes when the Taleworlds logo cinematic ends on startup or when I press to automatically configure in the config window.

Have you tried restarting your PC after installing it? Only thing I can think of.

Is it actually running off your GPU? It may be trying to run off intergrated graphics rather than your graphics card in that case.
If you've got an Nvidia card for example; open up your Nvidia Control panel>Manage 3D settings>Program Settings>Look for Mount&Blade and check it's not on intergrated graphics.
