Hey guys, if I'm making a game but feel apprehensive about showcasing it in agdg threads or this site in general out of fear of diminishing my reach from spiteful gaming websites, am I a savvy marketeer or a treacherous rat?
I guess the deeper question is whether it's wrong as a dev to remain neutral for marketing reasons despite having a gamergate heart or not.
it's fine to not take sides. SJWs will eat you alive if they found out you support GG. If you have a publisher then ask them if they'll have your back.
Julian Martinez
strictly user speak
Cameron Wright
I mean keep in mind that like RawFuryGames that your publisher may throw you under a bus. If you have no publisher then I'd recommend doing it as the SJWs will promote your game by shitting on it. See Hatred and GTA as examples.
Aaron Young
SJWs will attack you literally no matter what. Being neutral will get you attacked, not using leftist themes will get you attacked, making the game too difficult will get you attacked, being a white male and not apologizing for it will get you attacked. Might as well keep your dignity and stay true to yourself, especially now when their power is waning.
Nathan Reyes
Is it ok to do that after I've gotten what I want from them?
Henry White
If you don't really care about using your game to get into other jobs or whatever. You shouldn't give a shit and even then that's still a bit of a stretch. Just do what you feel like man. I'm going to post my vidya project when it's in a playable state since I know this website at least tries to be critical (even if they are not fucking useful half the time).
Alexander Hernandez
yes. since they already gave you what you needed.
Austin Stewart
I had a few paragraphs written but I think I can sum them up by saying that you have learned absolutely nothing from the past 3 years.
William Hill
but muh sales :(
Christopher Ortiz
There's a 99% chance you're overestimating your game and it won't sell regardless of who you show or don't show it to.
Nicholas Rivera
more reason to be careful?
I realize I'm starting to get defensive. Maybe I should just start posting on agdg. Integrity matters, even at the cost of sales.
Camden Bailey
I've never heard of anyone being attacked for posting their game in /agdg/. You can always just make the excuse that you "post everywhere for exposure", not that SJWs will listen to any explanation or reason or truths or evidence if they decide you need to be attacked.
Do what you want but I think this concern is baseless.
Benjamin Ward
If your game is good it will get noticed regardless of who's dick you suck. You should also know by now that SJWs attack anyone and everyone, even their own, so you'd be wise to stay away from them.
What's it about faget?
Adrian Jackson
You should vocally support gamergate then immediately bend over from SJW pressure, so I can hope your game flops but it serves as a message that you should never apologize:
Adam Butler
Which is already a mistake. Don't apologize for anything. Doing that shows lack of spine and they know it all too well even if they are spineless themselves. You'll just get attacked even more.
Charles Peterson
Is there merit in being a vocal pro-gg, or is it better to just be professionally neutral?
Jaxon Richardson
Depends on publisher. Kern got a huge boost from it.
Nolan Bennett
It's like jumping on hot coals for attention. You may get some, but you may also suffer more than it was worth.
In the long term being neutral would be the best, since you're not excluding anyone just based on your personality. Remember that vocal political extremists on any side are unlikely to actually buy or play your game, they just "support" whatever supports their beliefs.
Cooper Anderson
The moment the SJW Mafia find out you don't kiss the ring , you're finished.
What is a good game without marketing? A game that nobody buys.
What is a shit game that is fellated by marketing? A game that (((everybody))) buys.
Currently, my Partners and I are planning on pretending to be SJWs while we market our game. I'm growing my hair out and I've ordered some really cuck-tastic temporary tattoos- I've deleted my old facebook and made two new ones. One of my partners, the artist is getting her hair dyed and cut and has changed her
One for my true friends and a public one where I can show I much I fight for the oppressed and against the evil white male cis patrionormalacy with my ultracreditive fourth dimensional hugs.
My only hope is that some turbo autist doesn't datamine the game and reveal my hand too soon.
Parker Carter
You're massively inflating how much people will care about you or your game. If you get to the point where Kotaku are making articles complaining that you posted on 8ch, you've already made it.
Adam Carter
Virtue signalling is still virtue signalling regardless of your political position.
Dominic Peterson
This is where autism goes too far. Will it really be worth the effort doing all that nonsense instead of just working on a good game? I hope you have more to your game than just meme characters, dude.
Basically this.
Caleb King
Since you're an amateur, saying fuck the SJW's would probably give you more attention. Considering subpar personalities like Sarcock of Akkad and Joe Rogan is making a living out of it, qiuet handsomely at the moment.
Kayden Ramirez
The moment you apologize to them. See playasia tumblr "boycott" that got them 12k followers

The gaming websites won't cover your game unless your part of their clique. I don't see any reason not to show your game in the /agdg/ threads since even if it does causes a controversy it'll just be attention for you. I'm not sure what you mean here. Do you mean appear neutral on GG for marketing? I don't think it matters too much. They went after Tim because his game was popular. But one thing I must stress, have a set of balls. If you do get in shit for something, GG or not, don't back down. Respect goes further than people realise and being a coward for the short-term relief is a good way of setting yourself up for failure. If people can't respect you they won't stand with you when you need them. Also images.
Christopher Allen
If I ever get around making a game, I'll shill it here for exposure and when it becomes a meme I'll Yandev you fags SUPER HARD.
Robert Adams

Aaron Edwards
Yeah, I'm leaning towards silent neutral. Surely even some SJW gamers want to play games without politics.
Explicit lying isn't on the table for me. At most I can be silent.
That's a good point.
Cant's argue with that.
I'd be neutral but wouldn't back off if confronted.
no bully
Thank you for your replies. I love you all. I'll be posting on agdg when I have something more visual. I'll remain neutral on gg for whatever fame I get (hopeful thinking) but will never denounce it. I won't defend myself from having posted my game here first.
Eli Gonzalez
The way I see it, you're going to piss off a lot of people no matter which side you pick, so it's better to just not talk about your views. Nobody's really going to care about you posting here, unless you specifically piss off a twitter shit-eater or something.
Don't bother going out of your way to pander to the people who don't truly care about games or act like parasites. Make progress, post it, keep a blog, interact with fans and other people in the dev community. Be a positive force. If your game doesn't suck shit you're going to see success.
GET BACK TO WORK, FAGGOT

Easy Answer: Don't say you support GG. Just say you support all the things that GG supports. Nobody is going to rally against you for that. The retards that you'd be going up against are loud assholes who think milk is a white supremacist symbol.
Jordan Sanchez
Aren't you afraid people who actually buy videogames won't just ignore it for the same reasons SJWs will like it ? No one will find your unlockable shit if no one plays your game.

Hope his game flops even more now that he's actually a spineless retard. Because clearly he isn't a meritocracy fan, and would rather live in Harrison Bergeron world.
>fuck (((playasia))) tbh, what they did was pure marketing bullshit and nothing else. So? It went against mainstream status quo, and it's what people liked, on top of providing the game they wanted. Companies exist to make a profit, ideally they'd only provide greatest/cheapest products without anything else, however I will find an alternative product when let's say beer X speaks out in support of open borders for illegals, while beer Y, more expensive but same quality overall doesn't play politics and brews product to sell.
Brandon Ward
You will want to show at least a small teaser at some point so you have some presence so people don't just call you a shill.
Additionally, Reddit, Tumblr, and even Imgur can help you a build a following while you develop; you don't want to just release with no fanbase, otherwise it will fall flat and people will never buy it.
Finally, avoid Chucklefish and Blackshell Media as publishers. I have not heard good things about them.
Henry Miller
Don't pander to anyone, especially not sjws. They won't have your back unless you cuck yourself all the way. If they do deem you worthy, they wont promote the game for nothing. If they do start writing articles, no one will care enough to read them and so you will be dropped like an unwanted bastard. If the sjws do show interest in your game, they won't buy it because they don't play videogames. You aren't guaranteed a positioned in the AAA studios, and you will be forgotten in less than a year.
Make a good game first and foremost. If the product is of high enough quality, there are countless youtubers and bloggers you will gladly review your game, give you free publicity and provide you with actual customers. Don't force any gg or antigg shit in your game, for your sake. Any secrets like that that you bury under walls of code will be dug up by dataminers before you can even say "SURPRISE!".
codemonkey stop eating my posts!

I have to be honest: the only reason I would ever want to hide any potentially "wrongthink" ties of my own is because I believe that a good indie crossover game can still be made. Like a decent fighting game that can feature the likes of Hotline Miami and Super Meat Boy and Nuclear Throne. But it can't happen if too many faggots go "well, I'm not giving my character to that woman-hater."
Thomas Morales
I don't want to be that guy, but there have been lots of projects that have lived and died on Holla Forums, or migrated elsewhere, that we ended up hating because they did one little thing wrong.
Jaxon Morales
Like what? I'm definitely inclined to believe you, but the only ones I can think of are Yandere Simulator and maybe Risk of Rain or Cavern Kings.

don't remain neutral like a cuck just for jewish shekels but first focus on making a fun game. However, politics in games is like story in games and story in games is like story in pornography. I hope you get the drift. Only niggers and autistic loser still fallow that shit show. Being pro-feminist or pro-gamergate is a huge mistake. If you are considering taking a side now years after that whole shit show metastasized into cancer then you might as well kill yourself. However if you had the balls to have been pro-GG back in 2014 I would have respected that. But now you are just a lazy faggot.
Oh god, yes. Nobody tell this man about arrays or switch case.

Do we really have only Yandere Simulator and Katawa Shoujo as examples of "games from the chans that Holla Forums now hates"? Is there really nothing else?
Leo Foster
"One isolated event, which may be large or small in impact", how's that?
Minecraft
Levi Jenkins
Only if your game becomes successful like Notch.
Parker Hill
Minecraft did not become shit from a single isolated event, it was an overall trend of catering to survival kiddies over people who wanted to build cool shit. Same with Yandere Sim, the poll won by 15% or so was just the last straw for just about everyone who held out hope after the million meme mode updates with no real progress to the core game.
Dylan Johnson
You're going to get attacked regardless. Post it everywhere you want. If you have posted it here, nobody will give a shit. Even SJWs will have trouble posting some sort of hit piece about "the dev that once posted some sort of progress on h8chan so we think we don't like him or something because he showed his game to people we don't like".
Worst case scenario, do your progress here, and by the time you might be getting real exposure, the posts you've made here will be long gone anyway. You're being far too paranoid. As long as you don't make overt political statements one way or another, nobody will give a shit (unless you post your game on Reddit, in which case, a handful of Holla Forumsirgins will lose their shit about you being a filthy Redditor).
Kayden Ortiz
Contrary to what ideological fags would like you to believe you don't have to take any side nor endorse any group or movement when it comes to politics. Even if you sympathize with certain group, there is little reason to be public about it. You want to be a gamedev not an activist. And if your views are something really important to you then be open about them but don't associate yourself with any group without a good reason.
Unless you have a complete clean internet history, vultures would find some dirt on you eventually. The most important thing is how the public would react to this dirt. I think people in general are sympathetic to creators that are not anal about their political views, so even if you were attacked by someone there would be people that would stand up to defend you. If you have a good record even people from the industry wouldn't give shit about SJW autistic screeching, Adrian Chmielarz is a proof of this.
Chase Cooper
you really believe your title is that special and outstanding that even people who don't play games will buy your product?
Look at /agdg/. Look how many talented devs we have. Tetradev, Speedbotdev, Shodanon, Strawberryy Octopus. even the fairy comfy dev… Countless ones that don't post anymore. They all have one thing in common: humility.
They know they make games for a niche. They know gaming websites won't promote their titles. But they grow a following by posting and discussing vidya. Here, where we love games. I don't even know their stances on GG, to be honest. Nor do I care. I will support them because they show passion, like most on /agdg/. I think people who lurk the threads will as well.
You? You'll spam emails of random youtubers and journalist shills and all will ignore you. Better start building your audience here. Now show your game, faggot.

Your politics have no business in your game, or in your game's promotion. Picking sides can only ever reduce your market. Don't be fucking retarded, business is business.
