It was already in a humble bundle a while back, I think it was even in the "pay whatever" part. If threads for this didn't take root then, how are they going to happen now?

good question. I think I may have been the one shilling the humble bundle on that one too.
It's one of the few games I can manage to have fun with now and again. Not too many games can do that these days.
I'm with a small group now trying to get some folks to set sail. I figure if we can't get people to play it if it's free no one will play at all.

It's more fun on the official server, IMO. Or, at least, with a huge group.

Well the main server let's you change factions on the fly and is good for power leveling.
Depends on what you're wanting to do. If you wanna power level and immediately face end game content go to the official server.
If you want a more communal thing then I'd recommend a smaller tight nit group.
Either way it's easy enough to switch between servers so if someone wants to change things up it's not a problem.
