Anyone own one of these things? If so, how are they?

Anyone own one of these things? If so, how are they?

What the fuck is that?
Give it to me
But I refuse to pay for it.

no

Steam links were pretty bad, they'd always get filtered. It's why I stopped using Steam.

It's not horrible but not amazing either. The wireless receivers in them are horribly horribly outdated so they lag behind remote play on ps4 on a scale of good.
However on a wired connection they're alright but it dramatically reduces their usefulness of just plopping one off in a room and hooking it to the TV.
Temper your expectations based on how good the network adapter in your pc is.

Did Steambox/boy ever become a thing? They were really stupid ideas.

There's FOSS for them available, hardware still not very good if you don't have access to your wired network where you want to drop one off.

I use Steam on Linux to play games. I have no idea why Valve felt the need to make hardware, the whole thing is just a giant contingency plan so Microsoft don't get too tyrannical.

Given that I only play old emulated games, some autism simulators like Factorio as well as casual shooters like TF2 and Left4Dead, I no longer dual boot into Windows for gaming.

They're the best.
Buy two.

It's good .. if you are directly connecting it to your router via ethernet or a powerline. Just don't use the wifi, it's awful even with a high-speed wifi connection. For whatever reason Valve, a company with BILLIONS, decided that they would focus all of their effort on making sure there's plenty of support for hardware encoding, but spent no more than 10 minutes slapping the first wifi drivers they could find into the box. The built-in wifi is awful.

It's a bit awkward to use, but maybe that's because I'm not really a controller type player. There's of course SOME latency, but I was able to play a game like Melody's Escape which requires some pretty accurate timing, so the latency is definitely minor. Milliseconds, but I can't claim it's NOT THERE at all.

The height of gaming innovation, friend!

Hey didn't the ps3/4 have a little tv add on thing that let you stream ps2/psp games or something? I could not be more vague, I just have a genral memory.

I have one. I have no easy way to send a comp picture to TV, due to the room layout. So I am using Steam link for streaming the PC picture to TV - no complaints. I don't use the controller much.

The PS3/PS4 has integration with the VITA to play PS3/PS4 games, I think you can do so over the internet (although latency would be prohibitive obviously), but it was definitely meant for in-home. They also had an interesting setup where if you bought PS1 games they could be played on the PS3, but also transferred to either a PSP or a VITA. They didn't lock the PS1 games on the store to one device, basically.

I should mention, the reason that I find it awkward is placement of the TV/display. My monitor at my computer, the display is like 2 feet max from your face, right? So text is easy to read, and it's easy to gauge distances with your mouse. But when you move the monitor to 10-20 feet away from your face, things get awkward. If I had a desk at the other display, it might be a lot easier to work with. I suppose there's a workaround of using 720p and scaling the desktop to said resolution while the Steamlink is plugged in. I'll have to try it at some point.

I just started using straight ubuntu. I was thinking of downloading regular steam and running it thru wine. Wine plays most of my games, but with a little playing around

Neat

...

It really needs ethernet to work well but should you have that it can actually be used fairly well to just sit on the couch and play some games.

I was really hoping that would catch off, being a PC master race now loonix
suddenly my mostly useless weeb PC skills would be way more valuable

Is that by Mike Inel?

I think it's from "gumball" or whatever the fuck it's called, I've never seen it.

I checked out and it's really by Mike Inel, and its based on that gumball cartoon you mentioned or whatever its called. Mike Inel is the guy who did the Katawa Shoujo animations, if you remember those. Just love his animations. He did some pretty good "Gravity Falls" shorts.

That's a fundamental flaw. It has no purpose as a product if the wireless is that shit.

People found out that he drew porn at some point and he got insanely assblasted about it, denied everything. Not sure what it was under but he tired to drastically distance himself from it.

...

You sure about that?

...

How much of a good goy do you need to be to buy this?

By no surprise, it's the angry one. The other two are boys in dresses (NOT TRAPS).

...

pretty sure it is.

Factorio is the most casualized sim there is go play DF

Maybe you should alter your art style if you're gonna low key make porn. That part always deeply confused me whenever people bring it up.

Total waste of money unless you connect it directly to your router, and even then a lot of games don't really work well with a controller anyway, most regretful purchase I've ever made, the guy in the store must have been a fucking (((merchant))) with how well he sold me on it. (((but no refunds goy)))
