To be completely honest, even though I pirated it during the Salt Party and saw firsthand how awful this game is, I'm considering redownloading it eventually to see how much is fixable. I don't want to actually play it, but I want to find out whether it's possible to make it at least not unpleasant to play. I know the answer is it isn't, but I still want to try it.

It's a great loot&shoot with mods, but not really an RPG. It's also fun If you like building bases and micromanaging people.

At least get CBBE and KSHairdos, those are essential for females and female NPCs in general.

I did it recently, and the answer is very little. There's barely any mods for it that add actually interesting features or quests since most modders want to make sure their shit is compatible with "le console mods XD", the game still struggles on loading textures so even if you're using the ultra texture pack they released you'll sometimes come across textures right out of a PS1 game, 'survival mode' is no fun allowed shit that fills the game with artificial difficulty, all in all it's a very unpleasant game where the core itself is broken, I wouldn't be surprise if this ends up with non-canon status akin to BoS.

Do the mods manage to rebalance combat to fix the ridiculously bullet-spongy enemies yet also not make raiders utterly trivial? What about fixing weapon diversity, and the shitty weapons themselves? Do they fix the level-scaling loot that makes it literally impossible to get some items (e.g. power armour) if you don't find it at the right level?
Do mods add actual people-management to the settlements, so they're more than nameless settlers? Do they fix the raids so they don't magically spawn inside your defenses? Do they fix the inability to remove all the garbage and ruins lying around, without the line-of-sight and rendering issues present in early fixes for this? Do mods require your structures to be actually livable by your settlers, instead of letting you pile a dozen beds in unreachable places to fill the bar? Do they fix the fact settlements are tied to a main-quest faction and constantly give you unrejectable randomly generated make-work quests?

okay so here's what i'm thinking, the bottom tube isn't a gas piston at all, it's just a tubular magazine that the drum mag feeds into so you could have a sort of magazine cut off, I don't fucking know. maybe instead of using a gas piston at all it uses the bang system? Then again the barrel is fucking massive so there might be a piston crammed in the bottom? But the more I look at it the more I realize that's just a giant fucking barrel shroud which lends more to it using the bang system, so maybe the muzzle cap is obscured by that flash hider. If the shells are fed into that tube then maybe there's a loading ramp in the bottom like a lebel, and the gas system pushes the ramp down to feed and spring tension pushes the shells forward? But then what is that fucking charging handle for, aside from being comically tiny and impossible to use. I guess it's just to chamber a round but then you'd need a silly bar that feeds from it to the chamber, which would be the first fucking thing to break.

The more you think about it the more frustrating it becomes. Besides that, the balancing is horrendous, it's so front heavy that it would be a workout just to shoulder it, I guess the only upside is your vertical sweep is reduced a bit but it's a fucking semi-auto shotgun, there wasn't a lot to begin with.
