The glass drops are called Prince Rupert's drops. When glass is cooled very fast the outside cools faster than the inside and it creates extreme tension inside the glass, except for the fragile tail which will shatter the whole thing if broken. The man in the vide is showing how strong the drops are by shooting the heads, where the tension is most extreme and evidently able to overpower bullets.

I wonder if you can use that same principal in creating steel? If you could process molten steel like that with that amount of hardness and in a way that produces no weak spots like the rupert drop's tail, you could possibly create a super-light metal that'd work just fine as body armor or hull steel. or as armor for a mobile armor combat unit like a modern knight with guns and shit

If you could just find a cooling method that equalizes the weak points to prevent bursting, could it be possible to make it?

I don't think it would for a variety of reasons
1. Steel conducts heat far better than glass, so getting it to cool so unevenly would be quite difficult
2. Steel is more ductile than glass, so the tension would gradually loosen
3. The spherical shape is key to the structure of the Rupert's Drop, making it very unwieldy as any kind of armor
4. The tail is also important to the distribution of forces, making a very volatile weak spot mandatory.
5. It wouldn't do well as ammunition, as either the force of the gunpowder exploding or simple air resistance could cause it to prematurely go off.
So basically too volatile and unwieldy for practical applications, if possible to produce with steel (or any metal for that matter) at all.
