Its crimsonland meets serious sam. Nothing more nor less. Campaign is relatively short. Contains additional survival arena mode. Serious difficulty is actually really difficult. You also get easily abusable roll button, health regeneration option and a roguelike mode. Still much better game than Double D.

I didn't like it. I really wanted to, it did a lot of things right like multiple weapon slots and room portals, but it never clicked with me for some reason. I stick to BoI Antibirth for my top-down shooter rogue-like.
And Nuclear Throne while a lot of fun to play is down right cheap when it comes to bosses, I've played god knows how many hours and I still can't git gud, so it may be my fault, but lil' bounty hunter is beyond casual filter.

Wasn't worth buying the game for me, kinda boring. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to destroy the game box

Non Chrome handles very poorly for some reason. It's like with every new top-down shooter 10tons makes they zoom the camera in a little closer to make it less playable. I've beaten it only once so far, but there's very little incentive for me to go back.
While it has that Rogue Legacy perma-upgrade system and you can unlock/pick up new weapons/perks along the way, it still feels unsatisfying. It's as if they simplified Crimsonland, added a few levels and gave it a meh story. It's a real shame, I hope they do better with JYDGE (stupid fucking name).

Is it better than Hammerwatch? Because that game is a bore to play alone and the levels are long and tedious to go through.

True edgy fun. The original scared the shit out of me when I first played it as a young teen. I expected it to be silly like Postal 2. Boy was I in for some nightmare fuel.

I liked Gungeon enough to clear all the achievements other than the grind ones. It's a solid game, but differs a lot from Isaac.
In Isaac, the game is really about a meta of knowing what combinations make you overpowered and how to bring about an overpowered build to crush everything with. Gungeon tries to prevent that happening and it's /much/ more about skill, and is a reasonably difficult game. Pickups are much less interesting than Isaac and I think that's the main complaint people have - there's almost never a case where you get something that changes the way you would play or how the rest of the run will go, you're just looking for one of the strong weapons. For a game about guns, it's very reluctant to let you actually use the guns, too. I think they've changed this since I played last, but it used to be super stingy with ammo to where I was clearing almost every room using nothing but the starter gun so I'd have ammo for bosses.
I'd recommend it if you played Isaac and thought, "this would be so much better if it was actually challenging instead of RNG".

I think Neon Chrome would have benefited if they ditched the whole roguelite shit and just have all the special hand crafted room and bosses into one big story mode.

But the Telekinesis perk IS in nu-crimsonland. Take the perk, and when you hover the pointer over a power-up/weapon for 1-2? seconds, you'll pick it up.

From what I heard it just gives you a magnetism for powerups ability. Maybe they've changed it since then, but it would still take more than that to see past the initial fuck up of the release.

It does both. It pulls the closest power-up (doesn't work with weapons) towards you, and you can pick things up remotely.

Nah, the closest I've had to buyers remorse ever is with re:re2, but even then I just rolled with it.
As of nu-crim, I just educated myself on release and decided not to be disappointed with the game I hold dear, since I felt that I'd (and pretty much anyone else) would get more enjoyment out of the old one even when replaying (actually "especially if you are replaying" since it has the same stages(?)). And I've never saw the point of it since it didn't offer(or enough of) anything new.

For me it was the windowed mode and the fact that I got it for free. They had a special promotion where if you had a proof of purchase for the first game, they gave you the remake for free. I got mine on bootleg compilation CD I got in Russia, they didn't even know their game was distributed there. But they were cool and gave me a free copy regardless.

The campaign and all of the dlc's outside of the survival one are 5/10, while re1 was 7-8.
Raid mode is retarded. Not only it is filled with unnecessary amounts of grinding (the experience of combining from lower tier runes up to zod) and jew tactics, but it also has less purpose than re1 raid had. Character leveling is retarded and there is no reason playing outside of the events which are ridiculous on their own and the only purpose they serve is bypassing the grind for equipment that lets you farm the equipment required for doing said events easier. That could've been considered understandable if you could access events any other way than waiting for more than a week (I forgot the exact timeframes they offer but whatever), but as it stands it's pointless after the initial completion.
And even then re1's raid was more engaging on it's own. Character abilities were more defined and distinctive, extra costumes and characters (lady hunk - a cute, rachel - serving a purpose) more fun, raid mode locations being better since the base game was better.

The game doesn't look like much but it's one of the fastest paced top down shooter I've ever played.
Xenoraptor, if you can get past the permanent upgrade system kinda detracts from the arcade style still fun though.

I'd actually bought the entire Ubermosh trilogy and played all of them. Within like 20-30 minutes I already saw everything there was to those games. So I refunded it, it's on sale now for a couple of bucks, if anybody wants a really fast, really frantic simple arcade shooter. I uploaded a gameplay WEBM once, maybe somebody has it.
I've played a demo (ain't that a rare sight nowdays) of Xenoraptor last year, while it was technically sound, it just didn't grab my attention for long.

I can see why honestly, the game really is just about throwing shit at you for 90 seconds and the only real progress is getting your score higher, if you're just going for regular completion 20-60 minute is enough to see everything the game has, if you're going for score maybe it'll maybe take you 3-10 hours getting the patterns/strat down for the good higher scores, but it's cheap as fuck so it balances out nicely.
It's also basically a sand people genocide simulator

I just tried Nex Machina and the controls are utterly horrid. All you have is a rotating cursor around your guy to aim, that's fine, it's simple and should be easy to implement control for. But holy fuck, I don't know how or what they tried to do in order to set this up, but it's terrible. Moving my mouse and the way the cursor responds to it is completely unintuitive and so much of the time feels random, it either moves too far or not far enough for no rhyme or reason. Moving the mouse straight up and down or left and right isn't how it's set up, nor is moving it in a circle. I can barely play the game because the cursor doesn't move where it should based on how I move my mouse, it's horribly inconsistent and I can't aim at what I want, when I want.

I'm seeing lots of steamfags say it's a whole lot better with a controller, but it's awful with a mouse. This tells me the mouse controls was a quick and dirty port. It's almost rage inducing how messed up the aiming is, and it's not like a twin stick shooter is difficult to pull off on PC. I've played Gungeon and Nuclear Throne and a few others with no issue.

Campaign is like a side-mission challenge mode for any other normal game, might be considered a "training" for freeplay.
Freeplay is extremely shallow and doesn't offer any well defined goals of why you should play it for. The freeplay itself is eh and contracts often offer literally the same missions, there are no scoreboards and it isn't exactly freeplay per-say, it's like an actual side-mission mode.
If you are autistic however, you could find fun in fiddling with the equipment setups and different difficulty scalings working with different stage setups and that's about it.

I haven't been following Brigadors post release development, but I seem to recall a lot of people complaining about the very same issues you've listed right after the release. Did the devs ever address them or not?

It's more of a combat sandbox where you play the game for the sake of fun than anything, with the different mechs providing different playstyles. If you don't like the combat, then you won't like the game at all.

I'm playing AS2 reloaded and my inventory doesn't look quite like that. Why? The ammo I carry for weapons isn't in my inventory like that screenshot, it's shown next to the weapons I have equipped, they don't take up the backpack space. This also has the side effect of making it impossible to know how much ammo I have for something unless I have it equipped at the moment, like the only way to tell how many rockets and M203 nades I have is to switch between a rocket launcher and a nade launcher. Why is my inventory system different?

I also don't have those skills on the bottom there (I'm playing through campaign), I have intelligence and learning ability but that's it, I have six skills to upgrade and nothing beneath it like in that screenshot. Is it because that's survival or something? Is it different in the campaign vs survival or other game modes? Seriously curious as to what the discrepancy is.

Sandboxes offer way more options to tweak than brigador does. Brigador's combat is fine, but you really have to be autistically in love with it for it to be enough reason to play brigador continuously, because even fucking atari games had better goals than brigador does.

There's nothing to really be addressed. The issues anons have with Brigador are issues with the very game design of the thing, and it wouldn't really be possible to fix the "issues" without changing what the game is at its core.
Once you've played a few hours and you completely understand what there is to do and how everything works, it loses its luster quickly, because your only reason to keep playing is basically "blow shit up for the sake of blowing shit up."

Nex is okay but I wouldn't call it great. They definitely knew what they were doing, and it's certainly no walk in the park, but something about it lacks impact for me. It's tough to mentally compartmentalize everything that you're doing and what's going on simply because there's so much shit happening at once, it's basically just "don't worry about trying to figure things out, just keep shooting and try not to touch any enemies." Questions will pop in your head as you play, usually wondering about the mechanics or some enemies, but you won't find an answer. Not directly anyway.

How does that answer the question? That only makes sense if there's a game called Alien/Zombie Shooter 2, from quick googling it doesn't look like there is. There's AS2 and ZS2 but no A/ZS2 that I can see.

Forgive the incoming Helldivers autism. I really like this game. So relevant points:
* I play solo and with friends. It's better with friends, but still fun alone. Definitely better than playing Alien Swarm solo, which is damn near impossible.
* Pubs are generally not bad, especially the ones who consistently play 10-12 difficulty. The guys on the official Discord are almost universally good, if you're looking for people to play with. As for solo play, I wouldn't recommend going past 6-9 though, especially against Cyborgs… but it can be done (I have done 12s alone).
* KB&M and controller are both totally viable. IMO KB&M is slightly better, but not by enough that it matters.

Other than that, there are some recommended DLCs:
1. Ranger DLC has the UAV, which is extremely useful for hunting down samples (which you use to upgrade EVERYTHING).
2. Terrain Specialist DLC has a perk that allows you to run through the snow drifts on cold worlds without slowing down. While there are other solutions (jetpack, vehicle), this one provides increased versatility that ends up being a big deal at higher difficulties.
3. Weapons Pack DLC - It has the Rumbler mortar, which is arguably the best anti-tank weapon in the game. It's also the hardest to use, and not for everyone… but if you get good with this, you don't need anything else.

All other DLCs are optional and you can figure out if they interest you after playing for a bit… except for the Pistol Perk DLC. It's USELESS. You will never use the pistol perks because they suck ass and the other perks are more useful anyway. Forget this DLC exists.

Just play Foxhole for free. Running With Rifles is kind of ass solo, and no one plays it anyway.

My brother and I played Helldivers a while back and we were very good at it. We had no real issues with anything and we played on highest or second highest difficulty, but I distinctly remember there was a serious issue with the not-Ork tanks. If you and a friend knew what you were doing you could pretty easily stealth virtually any mission, just kill scouts fast enough, don't let alarms go off. The one problem we ran into was that not-Ork patrols would spawn on-screen rather than simply spawn off screen, show on the radar, and walk on screen. That was at least doable though, as long as our reaction time was fast enough which it was most of the time. However, there were TANKS that would spawn onscreen and instantly fire off a flare, making it impossible to stealth because it was so unfair, you just instantly had an alarm go off and there was nothing you could do about it.

In addition to that I remember the spawns for them were broken. Even on highest difficulty the time between spawns and how quickly waves came out you were pretty manageable, but not for that faction. The waves would never stop, you would get a couple patrols that didn't show up on radar suddenly show on your screen or walk onscreen from nowhere, and as soon as you were done killing them more would show up. This was without an alarm.

Did they fix that shit or is it still like that?

Just like my arcade games. Even so I feel that it's not that hard to understand the game even though it doesn't have any kind of tutorial at all, you'll mostly find it through obvious cues and experimentation. So instead of just shooting everything, you're also trying to keep up your human chain by collecting all humans, but you want to hold off on instantly collecting them, and grab another human right before the chain ends so you can stretch it out as long as possible so that you can grab the last human the moment you're done with the level so that you start the next level with a full chain bar. And then you have enemies which abduct humans if you don't grab the human or kill the enemy in time, so you can't just freely let humans be until your chain is about the run out, you need to prioritize. And keeping up your human chain is important since it also increases your score multiplier, which in turn increases your score so you get more life extends.

That's also where the other elements come into play to mess with your order of prioritization. Visitors are large strings of enemies moving in one line you have to all destroy for a score bonus, but if you miss a single one you miss out on the bonus, which you have to balance out alongside killing all other enemies to get to the next level and keeping up your human chain. Beacons are hidden targets which you can destroy for a point bonus, but you also want to destroy them as late as possible when you have increased your score multiplier as much as possible. There's also the green ones whose name I forgot which can randomly spawn in a level for a limited amount of times per world, and it's that random factor which can sometimes change how you prioritize things. Though you need to kill all the enemies which home in on you, most enemies which shoot at you don't need to be destroyed before you can progress, which is a good thing so you can't accidentally miss them when they're one kilometer away and mess up your human combo, and focusing on them becomes a trade-off of whether you can deal with their attacks or need them out of the picture so you can have it easier.

Then there's also the secrets, like secret humans, secret levels, and secret exits. Aside from being opportunities to raise your score more, they also encourage you to try new things each playthrough so you can find the secrets using what little time you have, or look up replays on YouTube so you can pick up other tricks and strategies as well on top of knowing the secret locations, so you can get good even more. And I gathered all that without having seen any in-depth gameplay of the game, the only thing I did learn is that if you dash at the right time when you're about to exit the stage, you get a point bonus as well, which I think is a neat touch since sometimes I can mess it up if I try to dash towards the last human right as the level is about to end.

I think Nex Machina may very well be a GOTY contender for me. Everything about it is bloody smooth and well-designed, and the presentation is on point.

Gungeon is great fun until you start to realise how much grinding you'll have to do to get through the game even once. Especially opening up shortcuts to lower levels is an absolute fucking hell. You have to beat the previous level's boss without getting hit once, and seeing how all of the bosses are bullet hell battles, you can see how infuriating this can become, since you usually need to happen on a really good weapon or two to kill the bosses quick as to not loiter in the bullet hell with a really bad dodge move (you can only dodge in eight static directions but enemies can shoot 360 degrees) and getting to the actual boss can take up to 20-30 minutes depending on where you're headed.

On top of that, each floor has 2-3 different bosses, so say you have finally perfected one boss and ready to not get hit, and it throws some other boss at you instead which you'll have no idea how to deal with. With all that said, I did put in 60 hours or so into the game before I grew tired of it. I finally looked at some wiki guide and saw it would take me 200 hours probably to unlock everything, and after doing that in Isaac I'm not going to do that again.

The meat of the gameplay is a freeplay.

The scoring system is boring and doesn't have scoreboards, the missions themselves recycle even through earlier contracts, the collective of goals in all of those missions is one and the same, equipment farming is more efficient than playing through the mode in any way imaginable(more risky and on later difficulties or bigger set of stages it's pretty much impossible to play with a high multiplier mech, because you either get garbage weapon slots or paper thin armor with middle class weapon slot here or there).
Unless your a autistic about the lore or the gameplay, which isn't really deep then there is really no point playing freeplay after getting bored with campaign.

Problem with free play is that it uses exact same maps from campaign, and you just DO them one after another without progression, goal, save point anything.
If there was some sorta global map with your base, where you can develop new gear, maybe hire AI dudes to run with you, manager resources.
