Metroid Prime 2 also has the best main menu music. Shit's great.

...

nothing to discuss.

Well, on the topic of 4, we have this gem.

Also, make sure to read this archive on what Tanebe wants to do with another Prime title.

Get a new one

...

Fuck you.

Am I the only one that's more excited for an actual new 2D metroid rather than another prime?

The best way is to stagger them so you always have two. Once your first gets middle aged you get a puppy. The older dog distracts and trains the younger one and interacting with the younger dog keeps the older one fit and happy.

There's plenty of people who prefer the 2D games, but I'm less excited for SR since it's using the ugly art style and is coming from a mediocre studio

It looks like fucking shit. In no way does this make up for the C&D'ing of AM2R.

As far as Prime 4, it's not being made by the guys who did Prime, nothing more really needs to be said.

I'm not exited for either

But what they showed actually looked kinda fun
And also it will give me a good excuse to actually dust off and use my shitty 3ds.

I've met a person who said that nintendo did the right thing by closind down AM2R to not spoil down hype for their own remake. He also justifies that actions so much, that says "nintendo even did you an offering, by not closing down AM2R during the development, like they did with Chrono Resurrection, look how benevolent they are, they allowed the game to leak to the net!".

All those "cinematic" shooting sequences look like cancer. Seems like they'll be too powerful and too readily available so you'll end up using them way too much and the cinematic will be really fucking boring. Only way this kind of execution shit ever works is if there's a reason not to use them or if they're rarely seens and only used on bosses as a finisher. Uppercut seems dumb too. Looks like it's mostly there to start up the shitty qte/whatever sequences.

I would have gone full autismo on him tbh, I fucking haaaaaate those crumb sucking boot lickers.

I hate these people. I understand why they shut it down, but that doesn't mean I have to like it or try and justify it.

All the guys at Retro have left and created a new studio, there's still a small chance the guys who did Prime are working on this.

Since ridley Scott started making Alien movies again, do you think Samus Returns will feature a Toriz robot named david who tricks a federation trooper with the X parasite so that when he and samus fuck she gets pregnant with a metroid baby.

There's just one problem: those same guys also worked on Recore not too long ago.

We should at least wait to see it. Nobody trusted Retro in the first place when Prime one came out.

Nice, I was waiting for this thread, although I have my finals in a week. Time for more - actually - high quality discussion, space pirates and fun.
In other news: I made a prototype for a Metroid series starter flowchart. Please hate and call it shit, so I can improve it. It is just the prototype, and just the basic layer, so do not expect too much of it.

This. You can only be sure it's shit until you have played it.

Seriously, the latest few Metroid threads have been of exceptional quality.

No. I only played GBA titles and I wanted them instead of Prime games.
My problem is it really looks too much like it will be Castelvania: Mirror of Fate. Which I still enjoyed so I won't complain myself.

Welp immediately noticed some horrible mistakes. Will correct those.

...

I wouldn't bully me if I were you, that is my fetish

I can't be the only one who is really irritated by the beam ammo mechanic in Prime 2. There wouldn't happen to be a mod for it that balances the beam weapons as in Prime 1, would there?

If you're adding fan-made shit, any chance you can add the Hyper Metroid romhack or the space pirate comics?

If not, then maybe the Super Metroid 4komas.

I was thinking of maybe putting them in as a sideline together with Rogue Dawn, and the space pirates is also a good idea actually.
(manga) ———-TUUUUUBES——-→ (drawing of a space pirate)

Metroid Prime 4 will be the focus of next year's E3. Mark my words.

please don't get my hopes up mang

I expect it to be at least 2019 when they show something more on it other than "we're working on it"

SHIIIIIIIIEEEEET!

Do the other Primes get better than the first one?
I got really bored of all the backtracking, it was fine in 2D, but in 3D it just got a bit too much for me. Is that still in the two sequels?

Should I play with the weird controls on the GC or with the motion controls on the Wii?
No I don't think I can emulate it

Hm, perhaps it will be 2019.
Still, I expect some kind of teaser trailer next year.

It looks like shit is the problem.

The first is generally regarded as the best in the trilogy.

Well then fuck me I guess

Just play any of them. They all have different aspects about each of them that make them fun. I consider 2 to be the best but consider 3 to be my personal favorite.

1 does atmosphere pretty good. I wouldn't consider it a hard improvement from the later titles though.

I want it to be good, but I have no idea how it'll turn out.

That being said, I've always wanted to know what the hell is up with Sylux, and 4 is obviously going to be about him and Samus, but I'm wary of continuing any story if the original guys who wrote it aren't doing it.

3 has the largest variety in environments, taking place on multiple planets, and the Wii motion controls are objectively better

I'm still mad they chose Sylux to bring into the story in the first place
All those cool fuckers in Hunters and they had to pick the most generic samus clone to come back

Like who?
None of them have any real history with Samus, and to not bring back Sylux would be retarded if you're bringing any of the Hunters back.

And before you have a kneejerk reaciton, no, Spire is actually my favorite hunter. So I'm not saying this as some fanboy.

Dolphin works actually pretty nice with mouse and keyboard. It requires some tweaking, but once you got your Dolphin and in-game settings right, it plays really nice. Currently I do not have a high-tier rig, but 4K Metroid looks really, REALLY good.

Weavel is fucking awesome and has a direct revenge motivation with Samus for turning him into a terminator man, as opposed to Sylux who just doesn't like the federation

Also the bug people are cool and it would be a shame if neither of them came back

THE SUIT IS MORE SEXUALLY AROUSING THAN ZERO SUIT SAMUS

And yet people lost their shit over the announcement

I came across this romhack and is OKish but I think is quite frustrating, maybe it has to do with how the designer abused having multiple paths in a single room or set of rooms, I get stuck after finding the bombs because I can't seem to find the right pattern for bomb jumping, and I want to think using it is meant for earlier access and not for overall game progression… right?

prime 2 sucked. 1 was the best

So has anyone here ever played Metroid Prime Pinball?
Is it a good example of a spin off game being released when the series is getting regular games, instead of releasing a spin off when there is no new games like Fed Force?

It was 3 guys. THREE left to create Armature Studios. Yes others have left over the years, but new people would have been hired in their place. How else would DKC:TF have been made?

There's also the 2008 death of RS programmer Mark Haigh-Hutchinson, who helped create the camera system for Prime (Eg: for switching between first person and morph ball) and even worked on the MP2:E Wii controls demo prototype in 2005. The MPT credits even begin with a dedication to him.

i've heard almost universally that it rules, but i've never played it before myself

...

Maybe it's because I have a dislike for the original Metroid due to its physics being nigh-impossible to get used to, but I'm not too keen on this hack.

PERFECT.

I think the level design in Prime 3 was the best but the increased focus on story, the other characters and the environments not being connected really killed the atmosphere. I haven't played all of them back to back though.

I hope that they go to work on another 2d Metroid straight away, and I hope Samus Returns ends up being good in spite of Sakamoto.

For some people it's just nice to know that it's coming instead of the uncertainty for Metroid as a series, remember people losing their shit with things like

Samus Returns began development before Fed Force was even announced, longer than 2 years in development I think.

I want to play more but I am stuck, reminds me of Castlevania POR, every time my progress is halted is because I don't have the vertical mobility upgrade.

Turnover is really fucking high in vidya development, you should just assume that any studio will be very different after nearly decade, even a few years it would still usually be true.

Well sure I wrote that why wouldn't I?

>Feels comfy, just got to Phendrana Drifts
>MP1 Title Music > Metroid Prime 2 Title Music
>Fite me

MP2's title music is superior, but MP1's file select/credits music is the best shit.

>open world

10/10 most overrated metroid ever

Don't forget

The only good metroid is super.
The rest is shit.
SHIT!

Which metroid is this?

Zero Mission is pretty good

Boku no Baby

Metroid GO

It's literally super with different control scheme.

It's literally super with different control scheme.
and that bad why?

It's ultimately more fluid and has tighter controls, which is great. Things like grabbing ledges and re-spinning from a vertical jump, and L-button aiming felt like a definite improvement.

I've seen a few SM hacks that incorporated those controls, but did ZM run at a higher framerate or something? It just felt more fluid on that game.

I do dislike that later games limited your walljumping abilities, and particularly how ZM has a map designed for speedruns (there's lots of little passages built into it on purpose, for exactly this reason). SM felt more natural in that regard

Here here. Who knew we could get such quality threads once there was something to actually discuss instead of weak baiting and porn dumps. The frequency of space pirate comics has increased a lot, to boot.

ZM was probably my favorite of the Metroids, in part due to how 'open' it was in conjunction with its control scheme and handling, and Super and Fusion are tied immediately after (Super due to clunky handling but being open as fuck, and Fusion for being very linear but having a decent handling in direct comparison). This is part of why I'm not looking forward to Samus Returns, because it looks clunky as all fuck, especially when compared to AM2R which had a bit of a bad aftertaste for me personally, probably due to the music not being as memorable.

Counting romhacks and fangames, Hyper Metroid wins out overall due to having a fuckhuge world, a god-tier control scheme and handling, and it having the right adjustments to Samus' powerups that make her the most powerful and broken she's ever been (i.e. Speed Booster, Spazer+Plasma, etc).

I can understand how some casuals mamy like Zero, since it's just casual Super, but Fusion is absolute fucking dogshit, worse than 3D metroids.

I think there's a fun bug with Fusion that lets you skip areas, something where if you ball in the air, it raises your height by a pixel, so by balling and un-balling constantly, you gain height. Only works TAS because its too fast for player input.

Why? it can't work, Metroid is tight enclosed level design at it's core, this very thing echoes in every aspect of it's design, it's atmosphere, it's soundtrack and it's core mechanics, with Zelda I can understand, but with Metroid open world is antithetical to it's design.

The way it would give you the beacons to guide progress needed to fuck off, but it was a very good remake of the original Metroid.

Fag.

ZM's walljumping isn't really any more limited than SM's, its jump physics are just faster and heavier.

That's actually a lot of why a like it more than SM. It has a ton of little secrets to help speed runners, it actually deliberately allows sequence breaking at some points, and it rewards going for a low percentage run. While those things, minus speedrunning, were simply the result of exploits and bugs in SM, ZM realized people really liked doing that and embraced it whole-heartedly (unlike Retro who, for some reason, squashed all the bugs in Prime allowing sequence breaking that they could find).

I did find a route myself where you go right as you enter Ridley's lair, and you can enter it in reverse and skip most of it. If I remember correctly, you fight him, then Kraid, and get super missiles and the screw attack fairly early.

I saw one person get the supers from the chozo ruins very early on and got the screw attack basically as soon as the game started

I remember there was a way to avoid the long beam, and also an alternate/early path to the varia suit where you had to use the bugs to eat a plant that didn't show up later

TAS anything is broken in general, i mean its a computer doing what humans cant do physically

TAS runs are fun in their own way, because you can push the game engine to the limits to see fun and interesting things happen.

There's also frame-perfect RNG optimized runs which basically solve the game to be completely as fast as physically possible

oh yeah, there is no argument here. I enjoy TAS runs alot, it just blows my mind everytime i see the bot do some crazy shit I dont normally see from regular speedrunners

So, nobody else played Rogue Dawn?

New powerups/mechanics discussion, go.

I think Samus should have a mech. What about you?

For a sequel to Fusion I guess some stuff would need to change, she was literally unable to use Ice Beam so I guess she would need to use Ice Missiles from then on.

She got the ice beam at the end of Fusion, though.

I think the ending of fusion she absorbed the SA-X and gained back her vavira suit color scheme and was able to use the ice beam. If anything maybe a mechanic where the metroids energy/life absorbtion comes into play.
She's might just be an energy vampire with an arm cannon and gains the ability to molt into a new form like the metorids do until she's back in full vavira suit mode.

Right, forgot about that, so she is no longer susceptible to cold?

Discuss what? 10 seconds of a still .jpg with a logo on it?

She already mostly wasn't when she got the Varia Suit upgrade. Absorbing the SA-X gave her full ice beam compatibility back, and, if you believe Sakamoto, completely restored her genetic state.

It's ok when nintendo does it.

Technically Metroid is already "open world", don't know what more people could want aside from less doors
Maybe it'd be cool if it was set up like Prime 3 and had a sort of open hub world you could fly to at any time, but there would need to be a reason for it to exist, gameplay wise

Seriously, whoever though of that weird "fuzzy" deserves all the blowjobs in the world.

Prime Pinball is fucking amazing, no joke. Not only is the pinball play pretty good but the mini-games where you mow down enemies and switch boards and stuff are top-notch shit that would never work in a real table. And one table is just a massive fucking boss battle that is amazing to play on, with various loops for recharging missiles so you can hit the baddy and shit I want to play it some more now. The only downside is the dead-zone between the screens (which is treated as physical space) so it can feel like you've lost the ball for a second and make lining up on transitions from top to bottom a bit tricky.

Samus returns to Zebes, which is in chunks held together by a gravity drive at the centre of the broken planet.
Norfair, Brinstar, etc, are all different chunks of the planet.
Flying between them means hopping in your ship and doing some Star Fox shit because WE NEED SOME DECENT STAR FOX LEVELS WITHOUT MOTION CONTROLS FUCK
Traveling around the chunks of a planet Samus has already destroyed twice, to finish the job she started in Super.
Space Pirates are converging on Zebes from all over the galaxy, and hunting down optional high-value targets earns Samus credits which determine %, not the number of items found
Getting the best ending requires completing the game as quickly as possible, with as few items as possible (so you're not covering unnecessary ground), while killing as many difficult high-priority bounty targets as possible.

Why does everyone say Prime 2 was so great? I got about halfway through and it bored me to tears with all the backtracking and "hurry up and wait" dark world shit.

It is so good.

Work on your spacing, but yeah, you are pretty right. ZM ties with SM for my favorite game.

Goddamn nice.

Look up SR388 - bonus track on youtube. If that doesn't move you, I don't know what music will. I am currently learning this on the piano

Nearly. You still fall, but much and much more slowly because your vertical momentum gets reset. This is why TAS'ers are able to bomb jump, even with the five second bomb delay. However, there is very little use for this bug, since the powerups are set linear, you cannot get them in different orders.

I can understand why they say "open world" since that phrase has changed meaning quite a bit. If they mean "open world" as in "as linear as Super", it is a good thing in my opinion.
Also, I recommend ZM as a starter , since it gives these hints as arbitrary beacons, rather than set objectives. You get some knowledge of where to go, and that's it. I love the concept, it is ideal for newcomers. But yeah, they should have been able to be turned off.

I like the tricks, and it might help actual speedrunners in order to improve their runs.

Could be fun.
