I have two theories as to how the Nintendo Switch may handle the wired inputs based upon my findings.

The first is that the Switch has an index of controller IDs that it will accept as a pro controller for input, with the Pokkén controller being one of those as the game is slated for a Switch release.

The second is that it accepts generic controllers for its input but requires them to meet a specific specification which is why the Playstation controllers, gamecube adapter, and fightstick I tried did not work.

if I am correct with the first one, it in theory should make it easy for modders to create controller adapters for the switch which would basically just have to be a controller passthrough which spoofs the system into seeing a different controller ID.

The second theory would mean that the exact spec needs for the controllers to run on the system would have to be reverse engineered before being able to use any controller of your choice.

The dock has 2 external ports.

There are 3 USB ports on the dock, in theory there should be nothing stopping you from using a USB hub and taking advantage of more wired controllers

I don't think it will because it only charges via the usb. It does not have any data pass through it.

I thought so too but it pretty soon became my most favourite controller ever. Even the lack of analogue triggers and the uneven analogue sticks don't bother me. It's comfy as fuck.

From what I understand it's not that they necessarily add drivers to do that, but that they write their drivers to only accept hardware that advertises itself as belonging to the company. (That info is included in the standardized ID for USB/BlueTooth devices. The USB HID class, if you're interested)
So essentially there is a whitelist.

Cheating that should be as "simple" as adding a middleman to convert a device's advertisement signal and input to appear as one on the whitelist. Unfortunately that adds some latency, but it should be negligible.
