Apparently there are more than 6 worlds, but each world has multiple areas and multiple states as well as a kind of world story where you can solve the issue plaguing the world, the worlds are also pretty big. I didn't think we'd really see any game come close to or surpass Galaxy but now I have to reconsider it just based on the short snippets of gameplay we've seen over the past few days.
So concerning the way the levels play it appears that while they already confirmed that collecting the power moons doesn't boot you out of the level each level has the same kind of progression moons that you previously had as stars/shine sprites in 64/Sunshine that will bring in new parts of the level or possibly bring in new states like the day/night we've already seen.

GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE TREEHOUSE SHILLS

Apart from a shameless self bump I just wanted to point out some of the really neat visual effects they've put into Super Mario Odyssey, and unlike other games these aren't coming at an expense of visual fidelity, the game is 60fps, at least 720, the trailer was uploaded in 1080 but it doesn't really look 1080.
The Mario warping silhouette Mario leaves behind reminds me of the cool dissolving Mario from Sunshine. If you look at sections with water the game has this really neat water fluid simulation that while not perfect is well beyond the water in a lot of games, there's this once section with this big water turbine pushing the water around and it looks believable, there's also this really nice fog effect in the Hat Kingdom.
I wish more people would actually put a fucking title in their threads so that searching for them in the catalogue is easier.
Oh Well.
Justin Thompson
Easily best of show.
On Holla Forums? You're out of your god damn mind.
That's not for the discussion of the game user.
Thomas Miller
That's some OpenGL tutorial quality water, user. I guess Nintendo is still learning how shaders work as it's probably the first time they had capable hardware.
Landon Mitchell
Did that song make anyone else want to make a fun platform game right away!
Connor Russell
It's the Sony Killer. Can't wait til it comes out.
Brayden Collins
this bait is ridiculous
Angel Kelly
...
Wyatt Parker
Fuck off
This is the level of discussion I imagined.
Connor Kelly
Wasn't Miyamoto Russian?
David Bailey
I agree, it was excellent.
If that's OpenGL tutorial water then other devs aren't even passing the tutorial, I mean that's not the best water I've ever seen, that's Sea of Thieves but it's better than most games.
Where did Mario touch you?
I fucking wish.
Ayden Diaz
Switch outputs BotW at 900p, doesn't it?
Well, Spider-Man is projected to earn shit all and has Pascal at the helm again, so maybe the movie department will finally force them to stop churning out shit and put effort into all departments.
Or, we could blame whitey some more.
Dylan Martin
Yeah, Switch outputs BotW at 900, but that was also a port by an external team, I'm just saying there's a fair amount of power in there, especially with Splatoon 2 both looking nicer than the original and then jumping up to 1080.
I mostly want Sony's games division to fuck off so I can get all those arbitrary third party exclusives on PC, but their film department is cancer too, thanks for reminding me.
Levi Davis
...
Jeremiah Parker
Yes, video games are for kids.
I'm sorry you had to find out like this.
Lincoln Morgan
Not for the mature gam3r like myself.
I hunt all the cheevos on every new game Sony releases. After all, the PlayStation 4 is "4 the players" (get it?) Honestly, I haven't played a single bad game released on the PS4. Hell, even shitty games that come out on the Xbone are better on the PS4. The crisp images make me laugh at all those poorfags on PC that can't even afford a dedicated gaming machine! How can they even compete against my 720p upscale at locked 30FPS?
Oh, and daily reminder (is that what people call it around here?) that the PS4Pro is incredibly for that future-gen 4K gaming (still not 60FPS, lol, but that's the dev's fault for not using Sony's technology properly!!) and that you filthy Xbone/PCfags will never, ever, ever get Bloodborne, one of, if not the greatest games ever released.
Liam Rivera
Galaxy was never good, this game looks great
It's a huge improvement just from the trailer alone
David Lee
hah i probably wouldnt have caught that for years
jesus christ. well that reminds me, the very first "tanks" were called such because as they were being developed as a secret weapon they were said to be water tanks. so it sorta fits with the plumbing motif
Adam Morales
TAKE ME NOW
Thomas Mitchell
Or maybe people are hyped for the first good looking game to come out in years.
Ian Parker
How come Sony and Microsoft never really want to make 3D platformers? They are trying a bit now but this is the first time in years.
Cooper Wright
This. I hate Nu-tendo with a passion, but god fuck. Odyssey is just MUH DICK

Post Pauline
Galaxy is infuriating. How can such a well polished, beautiful game with great music make me so mad, get me so bored, and make me feel like I'm going through the motions? I really didn't have much fun with it, hell I think I have more fun with Sunshine despite how deeply, deeply flawed that game was on so many levels. The linearity of everything really killed my enjoyment.
The last two galaxy games is actually the main reason why I am looking forward to Odyssey. I hate to be a caricature of Holla Forums's hate but fuck man, I want to like Galaxy but something holds me back
Leo Rivera
Do not actually post Paulines
Ayden White
So looking at the gameplay shown I noticed that the rock formations seen in this scene don't actually match the rock formations seen in any of the other scenes, does that mean that there is a Water Kingdom, There are also a few either windows or shelves to the corner that sit above a doorway with a checkpoint flag, but the shelves are very reminiscent of ones found in Noki Bay on Isle Delfino, and to be honest even the colour scheme is reminiscent. A completely open and explorable Isle Delfino would be absolutely excellent.
Aaron Nelson
user have you ever played a Mario game? Here's what's gonna happen
They follow this pattern like every game in some capacity.
I just realized that SMW doesn't have a desert tileset. Chocolate island is probably the closest, but it's only got like 3 outdoor levels and is generally a badlands theme
Josiah Murphy
Have you even seen Super Mario Odyssey yet?
Ayden Cruz
Are you being autistic on purpose?
Liam Powell
Most of the level themes seem to be based on previous games in the series so I wouldn't be surprised if the water world was inspired/based on Sunshine The big focus on the moon makes me think that the inevitable moon/space world will be full of Galaxy 1/2-esque designs
Ian Rogers
No since I have no plans to buy a switch because nogaems and limited availability
Josiah Gomez
Suck my duck
Yeah, I've noticed that too, the Dinosaur land from Super Mario World, the hat one maybe it's a refernce to Super Mario 64, but it gives me Super Mario Land 2 vibes, even though it's nothing like that game, and I can't place the steam gardens one. The theme to Steam gardens doesn't really give us any insight either
Super Mario Odyssey looks really good.
Brody King
Hat land seems like it could represent Odyssey itself, but yeah the wooded one is hard to nail down. It has collapsing girders, three "levels" to it, and generally represents an exploratory theme with the lower forest area, but that's still too vague to pinpoint
I want to see a factory world at some point
Austin Roberts
That's also my guess on hatland because it is where Cappy and possibly the Broodals appear to originate from. Considering that the game has sub levels I think a factory level is inside the thing that Steam Gardens is built onto, it just seems to fit especially with it having visible entry/exit points in the trailer and with the level coins being mechanical nuts.
Eli Allen

Rosaline was the death of Daisy
Jordan King
This was before Nintendo couldn't stop fucking putting her in every game.
Ethan Mitchell
I'm fairly certain that those are suppose to be Sakurajima daikon in SMB2.
Ian Wilson
Wrong
Ryder Phillips
Odyssey seems to be taking the best from linear and open-world 3D Marios.
And nothing of value was lost.
Brody Adams
FUCK YOU!
Caleb Hill
Rude.
Cameron Gray
don't worry, Rosalina will make it into Mario Odyssey as well as space kingdom, and Daisy will be retconned, Sarasaland is now Sand Kingdom, which is a real shame because the Calacas would have been really nice as her subjects.
Also the nu map is sort of shit in that it looks to be just ignoring all the cool shit like DK Island, Wario and other shit, and I'm pretty certain based on the Mushroom shaped Island that this is whatever planet Mario is from, I mean not that consistency in Mario is of any real value anyway.
Justin Diaz
Are you implying the Mushroom Kingdom exists in a normal planet with normal space and consistent rules? You really should play Super Mario Bros. 1, Super Mario Bros. 3, and Super Mario World
Lucas Jenkins
I thought he was Canadian, eh.
Zachary Ramirez
This is such a viral marketing thread it's not even funny. I only wonder whether op is doing it for free or not.
Aiden Hill
We just got a ton of new information and hundreds of hours of gameplay from E3.
John Campbell
Well by that logic, EVERY thread on Holla Forums is a viral marketing campaign.
Easton Scott
Viral marketing is code for 'threads I personally disprove of, could a mod please delet this?"
Xavier Myers
Not entirely, because like I said that there isn't really any consistency, the mushroom kingdom exists clearly in many realities many of them false, but still true, it's not really important I kind of just would like to see definitive world with all the kingdoms, because that would just be cool as fuck.
Yeah man I got paid $20 for a few hours worth of work, damn this is effective marketing, it's not like it's possible I just like Mario, no I'm a paid shill by Nintendo spending hours to reach a few customers that were already interested in the product.
Chase Morris
You probably need to use warp pipes to get to DK Island or Sarasaland
Julian Watson
C'mon user.
Liam Myers
I didn't mean *I*, myself want it deleted.
Xavier Perez
"Viral marketing is code for 'threads I personally disprove of, could a mod please delet this?"

It's funny because you've derailed a legitimate vidya thread because you saw discussion of a game you dislike.
Asher Bailey
This isn't a legitimate vidya thread. It was made by a skinwalker and it's purpose is to shill a product. Next time spend at least a month on here so you don't sound like a fucking robot.
Landon Reed
Well not when fags like you derail it with your 1st grade accusations of shilling, it isn't.
Jeremiah Thomas
You guys really aren't helping…
Hunter Cruz
Good point. Lets discuss vidya again.
So how many worlds do you think this game will have? I'm hoping for around 30.
Adrian Wilson
64 had 15, Sunshine had 7, I'd wager this one is in the middle with around 10-12
The real question is which costumes will be in, since each one we've seen so far has been in a previous game
Andrew Lee
...
Adrian Lewis
Lol I expect around 8, like every mario game
David Phillips
Dunno, but they've got a lot of places to draw from.
Well by that logic we've already seen over half the game in the trailers. I think 30 is actually a bit conservative, really.
Eli Moore
Ah, I havn't really been paying too close attention to the trailers
David Cooper
I'm hoping there's recolor outfits like Luigi/Wario/Waluigi and maybe an inverted color scheme one
Angel Roberts
There's either 6 or 7 worlds we've seen and based on the official map they've shown I'm highly doubtful you will see more than that, I'm not really worried considering that the worlds are large, packed with content, have sub levels and alternate states
Nathaniel Roberts
I may be a skinwalker but please do fuck off, I'm not a shill, I'm not telling anyone to buy any product, unless you want to support me on patreon

Evan Powell
I really like the graphics of this game but for some reason it feels like every object in the game is "wet" or "humid" or something like that. Probably it's because the resolution is all over the place and there's plenty of liquid physics thanks to Spoon's engine, but it just feels really weird. I believe this will be one of the few Must Buy for the Switch, don't really care about Zoldo but apparently everyone's loving the open-world (which is what I actually actively hated of OoT because it just padded the game).
Camden Jones
If you're expecting a Zelda then skip BOTW. Base game was alright, better than most open-world games (movement isn't frustrating, has enough core Zelda mechanics to still be considered a Zelda) but still identifiably an open-world game. I'm waiting with belated breath for either that "extra story" to be good, or for them to Majora's Mask it and they make an entirely new game with the same engine.
Aaron Brooks
She was never getting that slot in Smash Bros. Don't kid yourself.
Joseph Jackson
Maybe some day they'll get off their fat asses and put Daisy's in as an alternate model, if they can apparently manage seven Koopalings as alt-costumes for Bowser Jr.
Nathaniel Moore
I don't get the obsession with repeating the same character at all. I always assumed that Mario games would be cooler and have to rely less on putting any story in their games if Mario just went to another Kingdom in each one of his games with a new set of characters in each one. The only thing any princess from the games have one up on each other is a better color pallet.
Blake Walker
They've been doing that since Melee. Daisy is just Peach in yellow.
David Garcia
A WAIFU CANT BE A WAIFU WITHOUT STORY AND PERSONALITY
Noah Bell
I'm not seeing the wet/humid thing, and I really don't remember the last game that really had some good even if simple liquid physics, apart from the same ole technique we saw in ES Obilvion, maybe Pikmin 3 which had waves that would bounce around the pool assuming my memory is correct, which it in general isn't.
Wouldn't surprise me if Odyssey beat Breath of the Wild and snagged that Goty award.
Aonuma admitted that that engine wasn't cheap, and Zelda came out day 1, the only thing that puts me off of a Majoras Mask Round 2 is that Nintendo are putting in effort to develop DLC for Breath of the Wild.
It must really suck to be a daisyfag.
Jaxon Murphy
This company needs to die before they stray too far
Juan Rodriguez
Let me remind you of paid online.
Not all DLC is bad, just like 99.999999999999% of it, Mario Kart 8 DLC, good, Splatoon DLC, good, Breath of the Wild DLC, not good, if the DLC allowed me to play as the 4 other Heroes, good. Monolith Soft/Int Sys DLC, dogshit.
Wyatt Powell
The thing about Daisy is she doesn't have her own niche. Peach is the princess/ damsel in distress. Rosalina is this stoic magical mother godess figure. Pauline is the more down to Earth, every day Mario girl. Daisy is just another Peach, right down to her design being basically a palette swap.
Xavier Stewart
Yes she does, she's the meek one.
Jason Miller
Since when? What little characterisation the sports games give her always seem to make her the tomboyish one.
William Diaz
I haven't played the sports ones, oh well.
Kayden Morris
So you're going by Super Mario Land?
Grayson Sanders
Therefore her niche is the tomboy.
Ayden Ortiz
No, just the shitposting about Daisy in general.
Jeremiah Kelly
Not much to go by is it? She's still a princess, who looks almost exactly like Peach, whose only claim to fame is being kidnapped.
Mason Robinson
Kill yourself, shill.
Gavin Smith
Which one was your favorite, then?

Thank you friend. I always unironically liked her design since Donkey Kong 94 for it's simplicity.
Sunshine I complain and moan about all the time with it's baffling design choices and how the Hover Nozzle ruins everything but it's actually probably my favorite 3D Mario all the same. I still just complain about all the stupid shit, like how it was too much of a coin fetch quest. For me Galaxy is the opposite where it does away with a lot of the bullshit and adds a lot of polish and yet it's linear structure makes the entire experience a lot less fun for me.
Sebastian Carter

Here is what I think about Odyssey; it has potential but that potential can easily go into the shitter. 64 was incredible, Sunshine was still fun, but once Galaxy hit, the series became sickeningly railroaded. Everything from galaxy 1 was a railroad; you were not permitted to veer off the primary objective. Galaxy 2 was even worse. the 3D land/world games were atrocious with the forced time limit that encourages stupid gameplay of "just run forward".
If this game abolishes the time limit and goes back to being able to do things freely in a stage outside of a set "mission", I will see this as being the first mario game I'd actually bother owning since Sunshine.
Justin Fisher
I get what you mean but I legitimately think that all the 3D mario games are really good. Just because Galaxy, Land and World are more linear doesn't make them automatically bad. If anything their level design gets even better because of it.
64 and Sunshine (and hopefully Odyssey) shine for the freedom, movement and Sandboxing. The others are good because of freshness, level design and sheer content in them. Just my two cents
Easton Adams
...
Sebastian Jones
I'm not saying that Galaxy 1 and 2 are poorly made, but that they fell back into what "new" super mario bros was doing instead of the free, open world that 64 and SUnshine had.
For boasting the title of Galaxy, both of those felt incredibly small. Just the lobby of Isle Delphino and the castle grounds of 64 were wonderful to explore (with rewards for doing so), but that is sorely missing in the galaxy games and moreso in the 3d world/land games, and while they are still solid, feel more forced in a "go to objective or die" manner, which I'm not too fond of.
Ryder Moore
That's understandable. Different games for different people.
I think Nintendo should do one linear game and one open world game per console honestly, so everybody gets at least one thing they like.
Parker Sullivan

Daniel Scott
Well from what was shown off during the Treehouse livestream, the game has no time limit and is far from railroaded.
This one line made me feel.
While I don't agree with you on Shygirls, I can certainly agree that minus 8's art is trash. The proportions are thinner than spaghetti and the movement is unnervingly herky jerk. It's like he's never seen a human before.
Austin Russell
well no kidding. 3d land and world were meant to be a throwback.
Asher Nelson
Why does no one ever consider the possibility that Bowser raped Peach?
John Brooks
I still think the stork explanation is the best interpretation
Logan Richardson
I like Super Mario Odyssey in concept, but there's two specific things I want out of it.
I know Nintendo is capable of it and this doesn't seem like Sunshine where they ran out of time and/or money. However, the desert area seems to have a problem where you have platforming zones and deserts of nothing you're supposed to ride a Jaxi around on. Of what we've seen so far, only the city absolutely doesn't have this problem. The other areas might, so I'd be a little worried. At the very least I'd like Mario's basic movement to be fun, which leads me to my next problem.
Mario's basic moveset, while better than anything post-Galaxy, appears slightly worse than what he had in 64 and Sunshine. I could be wrong with this, but I'm not hopeful. However, the cap, as a platforming/action element definitely adds to the skill ceiling while, as Matthew Mitosis put it in his Sunshine review, "lowering the skill floor" only a little bit. With the CAPture mechanic, this opens up a lot of new opportunities. One brief segment of gameplay I saw in the desert area showed a moon on top of a gate. It wasn't collected, to my knowledge, but when I saw Bullet Bills later on in the stage I realized I could have captured one to navigate out there (if it didn't blow up somehow). While I'm not sure if that was the intended way to get it, the fact that I thought of that anyway means that there's either options of really good telegraphing by the designers. Either way, I should watch more videos on it, I'll probably play this eventually anyway.
Justin Fisher
After playing Mario games exclusively through my childhood, Galaxy was the first I didn't bother purchasing. Something about those games looked so cheap and infantilizing. However, I did end up buying a Wii U just to play Mario 3D World due to the beautiful art style, only to realize I'm just watching a non-interactive 3D movie, and stop playing.
It seems like Nintendo has realized how linearity can fuck up a good game, and even though their are some really dumb things about it (like having huge floating tutorial explanations every few minutes of gameplay,), it still looks good enough to buy.
I'm hoping that the different characters you take over will add some difficulties to adjust to the different host's controls, as opposed to just mastering Mario's moves through the game. From what I've seen, the complexity of Odyssey's levels would make scaling them with the same controls as Mario 64 a lot harder. But I agree, if Nintendo screws this one up, it will be in the difficulty.
Jacob Fisher
I think Mario Odyssey looks pretty good but I'm not buying a Switch just to play one or two games.
