Morrowind

Daggerfall

Explain.

Arena

Explain.

The image is self-explanatory, explanationstarved OP.

...

Well, i guess two of them make sense. But can we go in depth what exactly they did wrong?
Did Oblivion started the fire?

This and the problem with the west which a lot of gamers/players don't get is that the west are very very experiential/abstract where as Japan evolve around tradition and more stream lined approaches. The Elder Scrolls were good up till Morrowind, but like I have said many times before, we should be really having more Looking Glass Studio threads. Daggerfall is still one of my favorite games. Sad that Oblivion and Skyrim happened. They still all have great music though.

Redguard

are you a spic?
Shitesda was never good
Its pretty much a bioware situation where their modern blunders make people aware of how awful they have been from the beginning.

He's half right.
Most of Beth's modern problems show glimpses of themselves in Morrowind. They sacrificed a lot of gameplay and complexity to get parity with the Xbox version.
They began casualising the series at Morrowind. For example Daggerfall had a complex dialogue system where you could ask an insane amount of questions, while Morrowind went for a more traditional dialogue system. You can still ask a lot of questions, but the system was a shadow of Daggerfall's.

I'm not that guy but there's nothing to explain. They saw a direct correlation between streamlining and increased sales and went for it. Same as this monetized mods shit they can't leave alone, some dipshit sees it as an untapped market and grumbling fans be damned.

Seriously, if George Orwell taught us (and gaben showed in real life) anything it's that "people" will normalize and actually with time appreciate a system no matter how bullshit or exploitative it is.

Nothing about the daggerfall dialogue system is complex. The tone option is superficial and all those questions are you literally asking for directions.

the delusion that the xbox version is to blame is just embarrassing.

bethesda never made a good game. they were always a gimmick company trying to play catch up without doing any of the real hard work to compete with their competition. they were always shit. what went wrong is they didn't go out of business.

Who were they trying to catch up to then?

I was going to call you out but if you don't like the tes series or redguard there's not really anything else of theirs to even look at.

The Xbox version is the reason the game wasn't on the same scale as the other two, though.

Is there any video game developer that only makes games that are always Rated E For Everyone on the ESRB?

A developer who only makes games for all ages and all audiences

youtube.com/watch?v=tMguSriiu3U

There's worse.

post proof

everyone else making video games, especially first person ones

Oh my God, it's leaking

List examples.

But looking glass isn't any better though?

Is that I only play Rated E For Everyone video games on the ESRB.

I do not like violent video games

they attempted to do some interesting things but the most fascinating thing about them these days is how much cancer radiates from their corpse. they did make better games at the time and it's clear bethosoda was really trying to knock off what they did

1. you
2. are
3. gay

Okay.

List games you summer fag piece of shit.

...

You thinking bethesda was ever good.

He's clearly just baiting.
If he keeps it up, report him.

I know this is bait, but morrowind had no reason to remove fast travel. And the running speed doesn't help either.

Because I said bethesda never made a good game?
What a horrible opinion, here's another: neither did bioware.

They didn't want people realising how small the gameworld was.

They made two or three early in their career, but as far as I know no devs from that period early in their career still works there.

The reason was that the world was abysmally small.
Everything in the game feels like it has been shrunk.

Which ones?

...

Baldur's Gate and MDK2.
There are others I've heard are good like Neverwinter Nights, but I've never played them.
But again, that's a tiny portion of their career.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BioWare#Games
Almost everything they've made has been shit.

The story and main game were shit but it was an amazing toolbox.

No it's because you used morrowalk. That was pretty obvious bait.

The fog, inventory map and really low draw distance covers that problem pretty well. If they were aiming for the casual audience they should've covered their bigger issue. Even today everyone's bitching about the lack of fast travel and how slow their character moves.

It's an abomination of ad&d, horrible rtwp combat, barely any roleplaying since different classes pretty much only change how you kill stuff and cliche "stable boy becomes the chosen one" story.
The only thing MDK 2 had over 1 was music.
Bioware was always shit.

Jade Empire really deserves better than being called shit. A game that not only allows you to break and twist almost every character in the game but also has a proper if barely harem ending.

Sure, and it's still fun.

Spoken like a typical skyrimfag.

bioware was always shit. for the record, so was black isle.

I can cut troika some slack but while I'm at it, I'll still say they're not even half as good as anyone who sucks off vtmb pretends they are. the entire "crpg" genre has produced only absolute shitters.

That's a cool opinion.

Christ user, you're really going all out. OK, fine. Slap enough loverslab pornshit, something to fix the perks like SkyRe, add interesting NPCs and encounters with those dracoliches and even Skyrim has it's moments.

Would stealth archer again / 10.

Can't pad out content with fetch quests if fast travel existed.

I think it's telling enough when asked what people like about the games they actually can't name anything

There was fast travel in Morrowind.

are you posting your own faggy artwork?
FAWK OFF

So far it's only bioware and bethfags who can't name anything good.

I wish, I'm not a japanese westaboo and I haven't attempted to draw a single thing in half a decade

Or how about I just uninstall warlock it and play a good game instead of trying to mod a turd?

I'd be interested in seeing anyone list anything good from games by troika, black isle, bioware or bethesda or any other crpg devs for that matter

Good like Wizardries or Mite n Magics? Darklands? Ultimas? Fallouts?

when people liked Oblivion and when Fallout 3 plus Skyrim is a normalfags first sandbox rpg

Of course there was but implying otherwise breaks the narrative and you don't want to be rude, don't you? You also had teleport spells with custom recall locations, ships and giant bug buses.

What, was the uninstall necromancer too expensive? But seriously, if I had a good game I wouldn't be here right now would I.

I'm starting to ignore everything you say because there is nothing good about fallouts game play

Yeah, there is.

like?

Like different ways to complete quests, high or low stats affecting gameplay and dialouge, like low int.

How many games allow you to become a made man, pornstar, hitman and prizefighter all in the same two hours? How about destroy the last bastion of ZoG in some six odd ways?

Nigger it wouldn't matter what people list you're just going to keep being a contrarian for the sake of it.

Reminder that Fallout 2 is the Borderlands 2 of its generation.

Yeah, the game would be over really quick without having to walk the same path over and over again. I wonder how fast the game becomes if you could've ridden a horse.

this stuff is interesting but a lot of it used solely for narrative reasons. It essentially accomplishes the same thing in game play with a different dialog reaction a lot of the time.

at best the actual game play will be you avoiding combat, thus saving ammo/maintaining health and otherwise nothing really changing. It's mostly used as a novelty and is more than a bit gimmicky

don't be such a sensitive ninny, you're anonymous

You don't need a horse when you can very easily make a 500 pt levitation spell that lets you zoom around the map as fast as it can load. You can speed run the game in 3 minutes. If you can't figure out how to go faster than a crawl it's your own fault.

No, gameplay isn't combat only, sorry.

no, it isn't, in this games case its clicking and reading too

What's the point in asking people their opinions if you immediately respond with "no but that's always been shit"? List some games you think are good and don't suffer from the same issues you're bringing up.

I guess chess' gameplay is only moving shit

nah there's an actual underlying system to engage with and not just firm stat checks that essentially look up a spread sheet to feed you a response. it's such a basic and uninteresting resolution.

I don't know. I'm bored so I'm giving honest replies but apparently that's not kosher enough for their echochamber.

Good thing those checks depend on the character you're playing and their stats and skills, right?
You know, it being an rpg and all.

But don't you know all statistical systems are just spread sheets user? You might as well be playing Excel.

Nigga c'mon, every game can be reduced to shity if you classify everything it at its core as it.
Even PC chess is shit since it's essentially the pc checking a bunch of stored moves and feeding them to you.
From where you nihilist spastic came from?

You say that like spreadsheets can't be fun.

I don't think Todd had anything to do with the fall of Bethesda. All he did was making a really successful game that attracted lots of investors. The real offender was the new CEO of Zenimax who wanted to exploit Bethesda's overnight success.

Yeah, it's the guy (Jewish) on pic related.

no shit every game can be broken down like that, the point is fallout is so shallow in how it's so easily disassembled. it's fucking weak.

it's almost as if it's a half-assed simulation and the shit you actually do is fucking boring and I'm struggling to see how anyone can be entertained by such a shallow interaction, especially with all the pretense about crpgs being le true thinking gentleman games

Do you have anything to say other than "it's boring and I don't get it"?

It's impossible to "not get it." Don't tell me you had trouble with it.

Pretty safe to say this guy only cares about the money.

These kinds of reductive arguments are just shit. You've yet to do anything other than repeat your claim that everything sucks and not give any examples of "good" games.

I now want Todd to kill this jew.

shit because in the case of fallout, it's especially true and such an incredibly shallow of an interaction between a player and the game.

right. it's shit because fallout, like pretty much every crpg, is shit.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Haha, funny joke. Fun fact user, just because something's old doesn't mean it's good.

Examples of deep interaction? Super Deepthroat?

So list some good games, summerfag. All you've done is dodge questions.

From your pic you must like 'em young, eh user?

...

No fun

faggot.

It's straight if it's feminine.

...

I realize I don't have much porn of her.

Inverted nips > regular nips

I want to make the left one into my servant and the right one into my sex slave.

Isn't "servant" and sex slave" the same?

Todd should leave and make a new studio together with Rolston and Kirkbride.

Yeah, so we could finally put all those "zenimax is holding Todd back, he a good boi" fables to rest.

[spoilers]Only when I want to use the one on the left, otherwise there are still things like cooking and cleaning to do. The sex slave is tied up and made into a mindless fuck toy through drugs, stimulation, sensory deprivation,
sex and if they are reactive - hypnosis.
[/spoilers]

I just want to see these guys together again.

Nice.

See, that's how you bait a response :^)

And Todd's a good boi, he worked on 4 out of the 5 games on OP's post.

This, i want this back. Look at them bunch of fucking nerds

Criminally underrated post.

Is that real gaben?

Yes, when he did an AMA on reddit

Yeah, and they're shit.

Todd just wanted to have fun with his pals and make vidya, but was slowly corrupted by money, laziness and marketing hype. Pete Hines is the real shitter at Bethesda.

They're all good, but not without a few flaws. Morrowind is literally perfect though.

TIC-TAC TOE
CHESS
GLOBAL THERMONUCLEAR WAR

It's almost like it's a chess club :^)

GOLD STAR

What went wrong was that TES series continued while Gothic got murderraped

To elaborate: Both TES and Gothic were in the sub-genre, competing to a certain degree. They used a completely different approach, however: while TES went with being more procedural and focused on making the world bigger and being able to churn out more content at less effort, Gothic went the opposite way and preffered smaller, but meticulously hand-crafted world where pretty much every nook and cranny hid some sort of content, that blended in with the surrounding area seamlessly, unlike with TES, where most of the overworld held jack shit and was more of a transit area between the dungeons (which were practically independent on the overworld) where the majority of the game was in.

The problem of Gothic's approach was that it scaled really badly to biger settings - manually hand crafting a map the size of TES would take immenselly more effort than to make a TES game. Sadly, instead of having two kinds of worlds today (TES's gigantic shit ones and Gothic's tiny great ones), we just have fucking Skyrim

No, Fagout 3 did, fact.

Oblivion did.
They went full "wider audience" with it.

I'm talking about walking/running. The game shouldn't force me to invest points into agility just to run slightly faster.

It was Morrowind. Normalfags love praising it. Everything before that is all but forgotten.

Okay, that's it. I declare this thread to be the designated bait'n'shitposting thread

Bloodmoon did.

No, Fagout 3 did, fact.
Oblowion still kept most normalfriends at bay, at least the ones i knew. On the contrary, they were eager to play Fagout 3 and Skyrimjobs.

That can't be a Skyrim dungeon. Where's the convenient secret passage leading you back to the entrance?

lel, there's always one of you

AHyes, we've been expectingyou

Skyrim dungeons aren't that bad, they're easier to navigate

Does anyone have a good mod pack for oblivion, I wanna go back to it, but with less potato heads?

there's no point in changing the subject because it makes you question yourself.

They need their opiate addicted addict back to write everything because drugs fix everything.

The normalfags I know started playing Oblivion, after that it all went downhill

Surely, this couldn't backfire on him in any way.

So you've never played Morrowind huh?

Not sure if you've ever actually played the game, but that big list is just directions for different place you can visit. Of course, this screenshot does show that Morrowind dumbed down the persuasion system and removed banks but you had to go and talk about the dumbest thing.

You are fucking retarded, stop posting forever.

Explain

well dick face, "critics" and "veterans" usually will defend all Troika games, to the death if necessary. I suppose your just trolling like a fag though. ToEE is the best crpg comfy fucking game every made, yes it needs a huge fucking fan-made patch – but it's still the best.

/thread

answer for OP

simplification for the sake of sales.
consolization for the sake of sales.
casualization for the sake of sales.

Like music, movies and "best selling authors", mother fucking greed has ruined the fucking world.

Undoubtedly A Altmann is behind the kikery at Beth/Zeni with those fucking contracts that basically allow them to buy a company for pennies on the dollar, but Todd is definitely the reason why TES games were run right the fuck into the ground, he has no spine or a coherent vision for the games he directs.

Oh yeah, and that is Wonder Woman and he is fucking married to her, and she actually voices characters in some Beth games.

Hi. People on this board tricked me into playing Daggerfall a year ago. I now go through and read every TES thread where the game is mentioned and set people straight before anyone else falls for the trap. Daggerfall was shit.

It's not complex, and I don't see an "insane" amount in your picture. Most questions are just things like asking where the tavern or mages guild is. In fact, your picture is just that, they're all just directions. And Daggerfall can have that "many" amount of questions because they only have to write the answer for it once and copy and paste it for all of the NPCs. All NPCs in the game are the same other than a randomly generated name and a different portrait from a select amount.

Daggerfall is tiny. Being "huge" doesn't count when you copy and paste millions of times over.

Some? She voiced all female nords in Oblivion.

What else were you expecting? Daggerfall is a game for those who emergent gameplay about traversing through gigantic open areas and gigantic dungeons. There's quite a lot of diverse stuffs you can do despite the proceduraly generated content. If you think Daggerfall is shit, then wait until you play Mount and Blade, it's utterly pointless to do anything there.

You can buy a horse, buy a ship, buy armors, repair equipments, enchant your weapons, levitate, join factions, etc. Copy and paste doesn't necessarily mean there's no variety. There's still a wide variety of gameplay procedures.

I do agree that Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim are better than Daggerfall though.

Coherent or not, Todd just wants to cram as many things as possible into his game, and that doesn't sound like a bad thing to me. The bad thing is Zenimax's PR demanding him to consolize and casualize his games.

adorable

I've been playing Daggerfall the past month or two.
Holy shit, these fucking dungeons.
I'd prefer Shitrim's darkly lit caves for "dungeons" than the fucking labyrinths from hell that are DF's dungeons.

how can shadman draw good loli

All dungeons in Daggerfall share the same problem: they're too fucking big.
There is absolutely no reason for them to be as large as they are. You can easily get lost in one or spend upwards of three hours trying to find the path you're meant to go to find a quest item.

they need some kind of marker that helps lead you to your quest
maybe they could call it a "quest marker" or something

Randomly generated dungeons is shit design I know they arent all randomly generated

clever

you forgot the most powerful spell maker ever available in any rpg ever made.

You've clearly never actually played Daggerfall, quest related objects are randomly thrown ''somewhere' in the dungeon and you've got to find it.
This wouldn't be hard if not for the fact all the dungeons are absurdly huge with complex paths and confusing areas that rely on teleportation bricks.

You got a goddamn map and teleportation you dolt.

Kill yourself. Directions like in Morrowind are all you need.

That works just fine unless your game has a gamebyro engine, then you absolutely need that fucking marker because it's the only way you'll ever find that macguffin if they put a monster that uses magic/explosions near it.

Maybe it's a Dwemer dungeon with the convenient lift at the end

The map is fucking garbage on any really complex dungeon.
It would be fine if you could move around in full 3D, but instead you have to use those awkward buttons.

When they realize they could get away with releasing bare bones walking simulators because modders would do all the real work.

...

Oh they don't do that anymore, they just put another door to the outside at the end.

Literally all you need to do to properly navigate Daggerfall dungeons is remember where the entrance is. It's that fucking simple, and even simpler if you have the recall spell (which makes it literally impossible to get lost.
The dungeon map does the rest of the job for you in showing you where you have and haven't been.

Which is impossible due to the insane verticality. You might say that it's in the north, but God knows what floor you're on. And the dungeon map is shit. It's lowres, has limited range, and hard to navigate. Even with the 3D map, the verticality still looks insane.

Doesn't the Enclave still survive in the Midwest after Fallouts 1 and 3, though?

That's got to be a burner account from a channer just there for the AMA.

No way the suck ups who frequent reddit would dare challenge Gaben.

*2 and 3, dun goofed

Got geared towards the console market.

NV and FO4 have no Encalve, only the few remaining remnants.

Yeah, but I asked about the Midwest. Pretty sure ED-E was sent out from Chicago.

Not even in the slightest, it's incredibly easy to remember which area you came in so long as you're capable of putting in the slightest effort into remembering simple shapes, and create a basic cognitive map of the general area. And even, then as I said, you can always just use recall.
Actually bothering to remember where you entered makes it simply impossible for you to get lost, not only that but the point of reference helps you better understand your place in the dungeon.

The dungeon map is simple as shit so long as you understand the only functions you should be using are 'up-down-left-right' zoom in and zoom out.
The 'limited range' you refer to is only included in the sense of 'verticality,' or in other words, designed so that you can focus on specific floors of the dungeon, something you seem to have a problem with.
Basically what you do with this is zoom in until the main focus is the floor you are currently on and adjust every time you go up ramps or staircases. Not hard.

I'm old enough to have played Daggerfall new. I bought the game from best buy and played in religiously for 3 months (summer holiday I believe) before I beat the main quest. I also had to buy a huge guide book that looked an awful lot like a large print bible just to get threw some of those quest dungeons. Holy shit mang.

though

/tg/ says otherwise

I don't think anything went wrong, per se. I'm confident Bethesda has the capability of making a great game, but they know their audience now and how to capitalize on it. People nowadays care more about atmosphere and visuals rather than storytelling and gameplay.

Maybe you're a genius or some shit but I am not.

Pleb who didn't actually play Daggerfall detected

While I agree with you that it isn't impossible, you can't argue that the random modular dungeons or the map have aged well, because they haven't. The main problem with the map are the large dungeons with ramps that move vertically over multiple floors, and large rooms that block the background passages. It is a clusterfuck in many dungeons and rotating the map makes it worse half the time.

That being said it is possible to get through and with recall it should never be something that you get permanently stuck on but it is by no means easy or intuitive. Backtracking and going in circles is frustrating and a waste of time. Also, fuck randomly generated secret passages/switches.

meant for

Out of curiosity, is the lockpicking in DF meant to be bashing your weapon against a door until it opens?
I've never found any lockpicks or any options to lockpick, but whenever I bash a door open my lockpicking skill doesn't increase, so I feel like I'm doing something wrong.

Daggerfall has many things to be praised for, dungeon "design" is not one of them.

I wasn't arguing that Daggerfall's dungeons are perfect, just that they really aren't nearly as hard as people make them out to be.
Probably the biggest issue I have noticed with Daggerfall's dungeons is its tendency to spawn rooms completely disconnected from the rest of the dungeon (visible in this pic ) which have the possibility to contain your quest objective.

lol user, you have to switch your interactive mode to thievery then click on the locked door. Though bashing it down is one way to do it don't do it too much though, it will damage your weapon.

Because it requires LARPING and an imagination to, YKNOW, roleplay, idiot. Fill in the blanks with imagination, yeah its not for you if you aren't able to dream half awake and the other travel though the comfy world whilst doing so.

I worded this like an idiot but yknow.

...

Oh goy did I enjoy >Skyrim
but what O wouldn't give for a graphical update last years version is just not as good visually but I would pay another
For an update wouldn't you user?

...

Thank you based Todd

Well, fuck.

How is it that the worst TES game ended up making the most money. There's nothing even in Skyrim, it has imaginary depth.

does anyone know if they are going to DMCA the VR mods for skyrim and/or fallout 4 now that they are releasing a proprietary full release version?

Opinion discarded

Idk, play Fallout Tactics.
That deals heavily with the Midwest

>GLOBAL THERMONUCLEAR WAR

An interesting game. The only way to win is not to play.

Remove actual skill progression and tags ✓
Add dumbed down perk system with all previous perks and skills thrown in a blender to the point that agility no longer affects what it always has affected ✓
add ham fisted crafting system with the same looking weapon mods for every weapon✓
make all things non armor worthless and unusable ✓
remove armored items for "Morrowind" like armor over cloths ✓
give players what was once mid to end game armor in the first 30 minutes of the game ✓
IDK what the fuck do you thin went wrong OP
