Dune

Well faggots, which do you pick? Show some love for a thankfully dead franchise.

Ordos

Jewish tricks and lasers!

Also best ost

The originals are solid fucking gold, even the later ones where shit gets weird and sexy and even more religious.

My man.

Don't forget to rev up the gas chambers.

Fuck Sian Phillips is such a gmilf.

FOR THE BARON!

fed2k.com

I'd pick other factions from the Dune universe, like Richese or Ixians.

Hard to really pick, they are all awful.

Really is the only correct answer.

Ordos

Ordos. It reminds me of home: sneaky, clever, immoral and a singular dedication to money and hedonism.

Get back to moderating, Mark.

mark my words, Dune will be the next thing that hipsters fucking flock to and poz up. Between every fucking loser that watched an episode or two of Twin Peaks suddenly becoming the biggest david lynch fan overnight, it'll spill over to Dune and faggots will attempt to fuck it up by injecting politics and other crap into it

also, the dune board game was sick as hell

They can't fuck it up any more than Brian Herbert already did.

What does the HIV virus have to do with a book series?

WEEEEEELLLLLLLLL

This seems kind of fine.

Sicario was awesome, Arrival wasn't the worst (the visuals and direction were great, story is debatable), and we'll see about Blade Runner for the love of god please be good so it could be decent.

Just can't your hopes up for anything but this could work

Exactly. You know it's bad when new books come out and no one even gives a fuck.

Blade Runner looks like a solid 7/10

lady jessica the og milf

It will be as awful as the new aliens movies. All the nuance and subtlety will be destroyed by the "clarity" provided by "new tech." Same exact story as the star wars prequels and most vidya remakes. Limitations are important, you can't remove them and have comparable products.

Ha ha. You have no idea how perverted F.Herbert was. Rape caves filled with rape mutant degenerates raping everything and each other and themselves with giant dicks for example.

...

Well, its what he wrote. Why do you think dune attrack such people as Jedorovsky and Giger?

Careful where you're pointing that meme, kid

get out

As much as I like hearing my troops saying "For the Duke" and imagine they're talking about Dick Kickem, I always liked Ordos. Fucking mecha-spiders with miniguns.

Am I the only one that thinks the games weren't close enough to the books…

Harkonnen should be blue.
Atriedes should be red.
Ordos shouldn't exist.

What's wrong with House Corrino?

No love for Tleilax? Don't you want your own golems-I mean gholas?

Sonic tanks coming through to wreck all your shit.
Also any one every play the fan mod
of Dune II that allows you to drag and select multiple units, play Sardaukar, customise maps, play multiplayer, etc?
Would playing some games of that be something anons would be interested in?

variety.com/2017/film/news/dune-reboot-writer-eric-roth-denis-villeneuve-1201998001/

that right there is the reason the movie will be shit

I admit I did not fully read the books but in both in all the movies and miniseries Harkonnen is portrayed as red (blood, suffering, industry) while Atriedes (water planet) is portrayed as blue. What justification from the books would reverse every director who has ever touched this materials status quo?

because red means bad
and blue means good

Well that rustles my fucking jimmies. What do you wanna bet all the Atreides are gonna be niggers?

There's no way they're going to be able to beat tracks like this.

(In America yes) that only goes further to justify the status quo though and does not explain

(Fun fact: the original "reds" were not the Chinese, but the English redcoats during the civil war)

Kill me Pete

Bunch of slack jawed faggots around here.

House Atreides emblem is the red hawk. Although I didn't remember their livery was actaully black and green.

And Harkonnen was always the blue griffon with an orange banner.

I guess I'm just sick of muh symbolism. Maybe the Great Houses of the Landsraad have more rich and detailed past than blue = good, red = bad.

Maybe its just me…

Why did they mount a duck on some treads?

They were probably more concerned about the kinds of terrain to be crossed, fuel efficiency and the general stability of the vehicle.
If agility and maintenance were higher priorities, they'd likely have used wheels instead.

Face dancers and axlotl tanks?

Hmm, I'll take an Ordos, I guess, but only if I can be the ruling elite. TBQH I would rather just be in the Spacing Guild, though.

This Dune meme never dies, does it? It's such a generic sci-fi story, I just never saw the appeal. The most interesting thing about it is probably the sandworm concept, which actually belongs in fantasy rather than sci-fi.
Best thing to come out of the series by far was that game that Command & Conquer aped off of back in the early/mid 90s.

Can't remember witch one was that old kike looking man, I don't wanna him.

FTFY

I read the book, but it was incredibly boring. It's mostly nonsense-type sci-fi similar to Philip K. Dick's garbage - fantasy but in space technology.

Not only are you moving the goalposts you are also retarded.

There is absolutely nothing degenerate about Giger. robopussy intensifies

Space well spent. Taking fucking forever to work through. What's especially good?

He's kind of right but it's making the aspects where he's wrong even wronger. Dune does borrow very heavily from pulp era planetary fantasies (Barsoom, etc) but differentiates itself from them in its "realism" (in the sense of the school of writing). After all, the entire genesis of the book was an ecological study of sand dunes in Virginia that Herbert was working on. From there, he, like most of the great sci-fi authors, applied his real world scientific and engineering knowledge to create the story, which revolves around an exaggerated hydraualic despotism.

If you think the ecology stuff in Dune is more than widow dressing you understood nothing. It's about politics, with extra focus on how religion is used to bend people to the will of the powerful. That the Fremen got a raw deal out of being used like that should become crystal clear in the second book at the latest.

You're missing the entire point of the novels, which is to tie politics directly to ecology.

Fighting for a fat fuck on a hover is very American.

Dude, ecology as a theme vanishes from the books at a rapid pace. By book three there is nothing left of it and in the second it's barely there. Their green Arrakis is just the carrot anybody who wants to use them dangles in front of the Fremen. If they wanted slaves or lollipops people would use these to manipulate them, it really doesn't matter.

All that shit about lack of water and all the other desert/eco stuff is integral to Dunes atmosphere and helps differentiate it but has nothing to do with its actual core themes.

I always took Sardaukar over fremen.

I preferred when the devastator was a very large tank. It doesn't matter really though since they'd all just self destruct.

Funny the 'good' guys get the most self destructive weapon.

t. sexual tyrannosaurus

wait
I thought at one point the books describe oases on arrakis
not sure though
and not sure if they were engineered/cultivated

Most of Arrakis gets terraformed, first by Paul then by Leto. Or at least that was the plan at the end of the second book. It's been ~10 years since I bothered with anything after the first book so I'm a bit unsure if Leto actually went through with his idea of only keeping a bit of desert so spice harvesting can continue and terraforming the rest.

But even the changes under Leto already fuck the Fremen up. They were a mostly nomadic desert culture and in Paul's new empire they become urbanites. The very kind of people they used to loath.

It's been a while for me too but they assasinate the god emperor by dumping his ass off a bridge into a large body of water, I think the entire planet was mostly terraformed by then

**That was more suicide by assassin than anything. I'm pretty sure I remember Leto knowing that was coming for millennia.*

That is one nicely fucked up spoiler gith there.

Leto had clones of Duncan coming to try to kill him for millennia and still took them as assistants each time. He was also criticized for the same shit that he criticized Paul for; which was running away from destiny by getting himself killed.

Well, he sure as fuck stuck to his guns a lot longer than his father.

I really should re-read the later books. It only really goes to shit once Duncan becomes Superman and sex BG start running around or when his son starts writing.

I wish his son just left it alone
jesus fuck don't remind me

The sex BG were amusing in their own way, but its been years since I read anything but the first book. I like a some of the stuff in the later books, but none of them really grabbed me the way the original did.

The stuff that was credited to his son was complete shit, however.

I guess Atreides. I don't actually know much about Ordos, and the Harks are basically flamboyant wackjob comic book villains.

Also, was there ever a good successor to the original Dune game? I played that shit and as simple as it was, it was also absolutely wonderful. I played it years ago though and I'm wondering if there's an improved version that's more stable on current systems that is basically nothing but a graphical upgrade of the first game, or if I need to stick with DOSbox.

Dune 2000?
Might be more than a graphical upgrade though, I can't remember for sure

He's talking about that weird Amiga-era Adventure/Light Strategy game made by Cryo Software.

The only thing I can come up with is a porn parody made in Flash.

I was thinking more along the lines of Dune II and Battle for Arakis, not the point and click one (forgot about that). Dune 2000 looks like a slightly higher resolution version of Dune II. Man this is confusing, I thought there were only a couple Dune games. I'm trying to identify the differences via screenshots but it's all blending together with my vague memories of having played one of them.

Dune 2000 and emperor:battle for dune are your options.

He meant this game.

Disregard this, I'm retarded today.

There's also a version of Dune 2000 that came out late in the PS1's lifecycle. I think it's actually 3D, but I'm not sure what the exact title was.

Does someone have the DooD fist pump image?
