So… if people actually programmed/designed these androids to want - on an almost instinctual level - to work for humans… then what would be the problem? The problem of slavery is that man didn't evolve to be a slave, and to live in that state causes human suffering. If you program an android to seek out and desire to work, then to deprive them of the ability to act on that imperative is to cause them suffering (assuming they can also suffer).

Humans have been wired up by evolution to desire and need to have sex, as a way to ensure that our species reproduces and continues into the future. Yet we don't consider ourselves "enslaved" by this imperative, and I'm pretty sure we wouldn't consider someone running around forcing chemical sterilization on random people in order to "liberate" them from the oppression of evolution as a means to enlist them in some eunuch revolution would be seen as a hero.

This kind of "robot liberation" narrative is just stupid unchecked anthropomorphism. Nothing more, because they require the assumption that these robots are designed specifically with the capability to suffer under forced labor, and then are forced into said labor for no other reason than "fuck you, robo-nigger, get back to work".

It could've been an interesting discussion on whether consciousness/sentience is something discrete and not a series of separate functions that when put together form an illusion of consciousness/sentience. Pic related. Your mind recognizes there is a skull in the image, but it is only an illusion formed by the different elements unrelated directly to what a skull is. Would the AI needed to create these androids be complex enough to spontaneously form their own version of sentience? Will the hardware/programming they're equipped with allow the possibility such a thing to arise? Will be abstract reasoning they were to given to perform their function to be enough to allow them to rationalize their existence?

It's still true. There is a vast difference between evolving for survival in a hierarchical social group, and evolving for the role of being someone's property. Evolution acts upon populations, not individuals. Everyone has the potential and the drive to become an alpha, in the right circumstances. That we have the ability to serve, does not preclude the desire to dominate. Not to mention, would we even be able to recognize consciousness/sentience that is not expressly human in expression when it arises? We still have trouble answering questions of consciousness and self-awareness when it comes to dealing with animals, and they're practically exactly the same as us in comparison to the potential for machine consciousness. Even if you give machines emotions to make them easier to deal with in non-industrial settings, all you'd have is a potentially completely alien intelligence being "translated" into human emotions and motivations.

I haven't played a Cage game since Indigo Prophecy. All I wanted was a decent adventure game, where the puzzles were the choices you made. What I got was basically a concept demo set in a diner before all of that gets shitcanned for some linear on-rails story that is quite possibly the absolute dumbest and most nonsensical "we can matrix too" garbage I've ever seen in a videogame.

The two parts that stand out the most are underwater chinese ghost base and injun ghost tornado, but we can never forget that time Ellen Page was a spec ops soldier in vaguely african desert city trying to Metal Gear her way through to assassinate a warlord using her twin that died in the womb as a Stand. Also, the final boss is Willem Dafoe inventing a ghost machine to bring his dead familky back to life. It's not actually a final boss, you just walk forward until Ellen Page can finally commit suicide and end your suffering.

Very true. Just because a robot looks like a human, if its fundamentally programmed to love work you can hardly call it a slave. So in a way, robots or androids or whatever could have their rights changed purely by design, by the intent of the (supposedly human) designer. Change Ellen Page to an actually competent character, change the story to be more action-driven and treat itself less seriously and you have a plot for a fun action anime.

Add some EDGE into the mix and make the character a katana wielding necromancer ninja or something and you got yourself plot for a anime-stylized CUHRAYZEE action game.
