I think a good example of VAs behavior is someone like Peter Cullen. He's become THE voice of Optimus Prime in particular, and has done interviews and the like more than a few times, but never comes across as full of himself. The result? I'd wager he's one of the most well known and financially successful western VAs (not counting "celebrity voice actors" and shit like that). I always quite liked him and Frank Welker.

If you were actually capable of doing that, and even if said engine that you built actually out-performed the current standard engines (protip: probably won't), others devs still won't use your engine because they'll use UE, Unity and whatever they're more familiar with. Corporations also won't want to pay to train employees to use your new engine when they could simply hire devs that are familiar with the standard engines and save money in the process.

I was in your position once. Get a job at a multinational corporation that does software development and you'll find the horrible truth: all the frameworks, libraries, and specially the design patterns taught at school are made so that you're easily replaceable.
You're not allowed to develop your own shit, or do something outside of the standard dev process, because then your replacement won't be able to read your code easily to fix it in case a bug is found out. Corporations don't want devs that do unique things because then they'd have to pay them more. It's cheaper to teach everyone to use the same library and code things in the same way so whatever it is they do will be easily understood by everyone else.

I think programmer VAs are pretty good at times, they're charmingly bad. Kingdom Come: Deliverance They finally announced the release date, February 18 next year has Brian Blessed as a voice actor and that's really neat, guy's great behind a microphone.
Ron Perlman is pretty great as well, he did "War, war never changes." and narration in Fallout and The Biker in Payday 2.
