It's been known for over a year now that if you add a virtual nose to VR you stop motionsickness

Why are VR devs so dumb?

I'm going to go out on a limb here, but maybe they tested both after reading "ayo its totally resolved fam VR is saved" like you did and it didn't work at all ?

kek no, actual scientific studies have shown that is reduces motionsickness significantly. I trust science more than cuck devs.

Doyouhavealink

Low energy

Why won't they do anything worthwhile with the fucking thing when it's completely possible?
Because they don't like taking risks/are idiots.

That's why, there's literally nothing else to it.

If you say shit like this back it up by naming the studies. Don't do the tabloid shit of just spouting "studies show" and then moving off. Which studies and by whom?

Then you're a fucking idiot. Science isn't religion. It isn't something you believe or trust in. Science is a systematic process of inquiry and analysis. Even a cursory glance at science through history shows many examples of prevalent and widely accepted scientific theories turning out to be wildly incorrect. Concepts like aether, miasma or the dismissal of continental drift were once the scientific consensus but would now get you laughed out of a room. If you truly respect the scientific method then please stop saying stupid shit like, "I trust science."

Nigger, I trust the results of these scientific studies.
See
All of them clearly show ways to reduce motionsickness in videogames. There is no excuse for devs not to use these methods. Instead we get games that don't let you freely walk around or bullshit like that.

youtu.be/lHzCmfuJYa4?t=2m9s

You're a fucking moron. was absolutely spot on for calling you out for blindly believing this kind of shit.

Nigger, 30 participants if enough when it comes to simply testing how motion sick people are. This isn't some complex medication with vague results.

I wish I could hate you to death.

...

I wish you weren't an idiot and understand how scientific studies are conducted. 30 is acceptable for an early study like this. It's big enough to show a difference, more studies are needed to determine the actual extent but 30 is enough to show that there is a difference.

If all 30 of those participants did not suffer motion sickness, that's good enough to greenlight larger-scale testing.

I knew that was going to happen.

Is this the first time you ever read a study? They almost always put "may" unless they are click bait bullshit. May is always used during the first set of studies.

You may be right, but the way OP spoke of it, it sounded like a must.

There's a difference between seeing results in a small scale study that warrant further studies and thinking that a 30 fucking participant study held over 2 fucking days is conclusive and counts as a definitive answer to a problem like this dumb shit OP is claiming.

This. This kind of study is basically to say that there's a good chance that following through is a decent idea.

And that's why I'm calling out OP on his bullshit.

He's only doing what the media does when they're covering science.

The point is

Adding a nose to your fucking VR game isn't some kind of impossible and out of the world idea, the fact that no one is trying to do it even with these inconclusive studies shows that they're idiots.

The fact that they're ONLY relying on VR too is retarded as well. You can let people have free movement (use a keyboard), give them the fade-to-black-teleport thing AND also allow them to use more gimmicky accessories like VR movement platforms.

It's obvious no one is actually trying to make it more than a gimmick.

Hey, who wants another teleporting wave shooter?

I'm still waiting for a fucking Steel Battalion successor.
You know, that thing VR WAS FUCKING MADE FOR

I know, it's a pet peeve of mine. Study shows milk is good for you! Study funded by milk industry and ran with 10 participants selected from a pool of milk industry workers.

Until a competent dev makes a decent VR game, the whole VR thing will continue to remain a gimmick.

There are some trying at least, even if it's the same formula, see Onward.

Untill they succeed VR only tries not to be a gimmick

LOL

retard

enjoy your no-games and overpriced gimmick ;)

Yes, but SOME means like 2-3 games. You need a lot more than those and they also need to be outstanding.

Everyone forgot about Onward because it's not even original, even if it's well made.

VR is good for playing games that are already good. I don't own a VR device but I played Half-life 1 in VR and it was amazing.

...

...

VR can be amazing when you play it with a good game. Half-life 1, Morrowind, Portal, ect are all amazing with VR because they put you into the world. Gimmick shit doesn't work because there is nothing to put you in. Sadly modern devs are focusing on making gimmick shit rather than porting good games to VR.

And then, we're forgetting one important genre that fits the VR as a glove.
Porn games.
The west isn't even trying in that regard. The east is churning shit.

Are there any good Western porn games? I am trying to make a documentary about Porn games but the only western porn game I can think of with any success is Princess Trainer.

Yeah, that's my point.

Yes, monster girl island. I came buckets in the VR demo.

What about that dating sim/VN/bejeweled hybrid that came out a few years back?

Isn't that the one where the dev proclaimed it to be a monster girl game and then he immediately started shoving in fucktons of traps and futa?

Please, did that look like a "good porn game" to you?
It was certainly not bad, but you wouldn't be using VR for that.

There was one trap, it yes that's the one.

It also usually takes more than just popping on a fucking headset and hoping for the best most times. Gotta tweak shit around, I know my older brother would spend hours fucking with his Demo Occulus back before facebook fucked it. Did some really cool shit with it.

30 people is called an anecdote, not a scientific study.

Jews are famous for having defective brains that make them susceptible to epilepsy and motion sickness, and have huge noses. Coincidence, or (((coincidence)))?

what the fuck we had the exact same thread a month ago

And reported for being too stupid to be allowed to post here.

There are no good japanese porn games.

Holla Forums having similar threads multiple times over a small period? Holy shit, you should tell someone about this.

Are there any good porn games in your opinion?

Sengoku Rance has great gameplay and solid characters, story and music. Has porn, too. Kamidori has so-so gameplay, meh characters and bad story but great porn. Outside of those, there isn't really much that can compete. There's VNs and plenty of other "games" with porn, but the gameplay is so lacking that it's hard to consider the whole package as good for anything other than wank material

...

The jews are behind this.

...

how about a moving forward shooter?

...

Well, it just a proof of concept that VR FPS can work without the need of teleportation. Obviously just adding VR to existing FPS have it drawbacks like mouse movement and head movement clashing with each other.

Except I actually posted the study.

That's no the point, stupid

close enough for you?

Don't see too close to the tv, user

maybe it has to do with people spending money on the medical industry, OP

lemme repeat a part of that post
SPENDING
MONEY

This pleases my autism.

But thats not really an "FPS" game, its more like a cockpit simulator where you control a vehicle, not the person.

BBA suffers from having too much porn. There's no build up and there's no time to get attached to the characters. It's just porn after porn after porn after porn. It's actually quite bad for a porn game because you want to space out the porn to give the players a break and you want to reward the players with the porn, too. BBA fails at this.

Gameplay is atrocious to the point where I feel like an intern at a shitty game studio could've come up with something better. The characters and story were meh but the setting was good. To be fair, the game was so fucking boring I couldn't bring myself to finish all the routes, much less the evil route.

The porn varies from amazing to oh god wtf is this. Everything else about the game is fairly bad though.

The gameplay is comically bad, but the characters and setting are good. Strongly disliked the genre shift. Porn was nothing special.

Everything about this game looked so bland and cliche that I didn't bother playing for more than a few hours.

Ancient and dated.

You made this thread before.

Well, that and God Games. There hasn't been an interesting VR God Game yet. Where is my VR Black & White?

I didn't know I wanted this until now

when's vr kign's field

You know what else gets rid of motion sickness? Not being a fucking bitch.

Why is your body so fucked up that you get motion sickness jerking off less then two inches from a lcd screen stuffed in a gay plastic hat?

that gets you gender studies

Gender studies isn't a science.

There are some mecha VR games in development like RIGS, Code 51 and Heavy Walker. The video is an alpha of Vox Machine.

But in the end it is annoying that there aren't more vehicle simulator games for VR. If only Capcom didn't screw themselves with that Kinect SB game. Or if Miyamoto would actually contact Capcom to make a mecha/large vehicle simulator game but didn't want to anymore since the existence of the first SB game and then making Steel Diver.

its accepted as science

if capcom is going to get in to vr they should make a game where roll.exe sits on your face

Yes, by people who think gender studies is a science. But it's disregarded by people who has any understanding of what science is.

its accepted by enough people that it has serious momentum in the earths culture

So… religion/faith?

pretty much

No it's funded and artificially kept alive.

I'm sorry, but they're right.

It's not actually enough to be a good sample size. You can't have enough variance between the participants to prove anything. Like others said, it's enough to greenlight a real study with 1000+ participants.

The point of having a lot of people involved is that it allows differences between the many, many types of people to come to the fore and for the outliers among them to be sussed out. You might have a Native American motherfucker in the mix with exceptional motion sickness resistance, two people with body identity issues that resolve themselves with whatever nose model you pick out, two old people that will tell you whatever you want to hear so they don't have to put the VR headset back on, and a skinwalker.

And just like that, a fifth of your thirty-participant study is thrown off by people who aren't normal or are otherwise not being honest.

No it isn't. It is not apart of STEM and STEM majors laugh at it. It isn't a science and they do not conduct science. It is a "social science" which is a different branch not actually considered science.

Even normalfags are starting to become aware of how bullshit the activist-centric humanities are, with gender/women/ethnic studies as the core of the problem.

It wouldn't be hard to set up a booth and get 1000 people to try a VR game with a nose and without.

Hell, ask the elite dangerous devs, they might be all for trying it. They'd literally add a nose and then ask the playerbase. Hell, people in that game already have tv's in their cockpits I can't imagine making a nose to be particularly hard.

Interestingly, Skyrim seems to be a moving vr game and not a teleporter, while Doom is a teleporting vr game. Wonder if Bethfags will revolt because they get motion sickness in a shitty game.

oh, you're illiterate

I say thank fuck somebody is finally making moving VR games again, though the fact that it's Bethesda sours that pretty quick.
There are so few, because a small subset of brain damaged people get motion sickness at the drop of a hat. So everything's got to be room-scale so you can feel your body move around, or everything's got to have teleportation so gameplay mechanics are absurdly curtailed to fit around that limitation.

Alien Isolation, while not a perfect game by any stretch of the imagination, was great in VR. It had the proper sense of depth and scale, it tracked your movement so you could physically lean around corners or pop up over tabletops to peek around, and it really made the game's most praise-worthy aspect - its authentic setting - feel like a believably real place. I have memories now of walking around that space station as if I were actually there, and that's a pretty cool way to remember a videogame.
Also, it goes without saying that having the alien suddenly charge at your face out of the darkness at 40kph, in VR, is borderline pants-shittingly terrifying. The fear impact of the alien when playing outside VR is far less intense.

That whole VR mode was scrapped by the dev team before launch, because some people got motion sick from it. It took people digging through the game's files and reactivating it themselves to get it working, and the VR mode was about 95% complete with some minor QoL quibbles to iron out - looking at the map screen was a bit uncomfortable and menus required you to peek around the headset to see them.

None of that is really to say that Alien Isolation is the shining example of what VR games should be - but it's a condemnation of where VR games have gone since. I hope there's a reversal of the teleporter-shit trend soon, but if Bethesda is at the helm, then I really don't expect anything but more failure.

That is literally how science works user. Studies show that something might cause something else. What the hell do you think science does?

I fucking hate that. You want to know why modern day 3D movies are worse than 90s 3D movies? It's because 3D glasses made some people feel sick, so now they dumbed it down to the point where modern 3D movies aren't even worth watching in 3D. This is the exact same shit that is happening with VR.

It's the worst. We just have to hope that some smaller studios will be able to move in on VR as the tech is better understood and cheaper to develop for, and they start making higher quality games for the apparent "niche market" of people who don't get sick at the drop of a hat.

I think the majority of the flak you're getting is that a single study is only a single data point. That was also a study with a very small sample size which means an extremely high margin for error.
The study can, and likely will, open the door for more rigorous studies, but that one study alone is barely evidence let alone proof. I hope that the study is accurate, but especially because of that bias, I must be extra critical and skeptical of it.

The thing is. All I want is games that are already released to be ported to VR. The thing is Nvidea actually had plans to port every single game to VR with their newest drivers but decided against it later on saying "There wasn't enough interest"
==FUCK== I just wanted to play old classics again in VR.

THE NOSE KNOWS

Games take longer than that to make, and information takes even longer to disseminate through the public

It is something that can be patched in.

FTFY

kek

What kind of nose?

But that's not what happened here, in the cited "scientific studies."

I'd be interested to see what sort of garbage might result if this were to take off, though. How long before nose modeling becomes a 3D artist's specialty?

...

think dumbing down games and removing BASIC FUCKING DESIGN DECISIONS LIKE REGARDING MOVEMENT to make it work with your overpriced tech that has paper thin library of solid titles

My fucking dick
