Basically after beating the tutorial boss of that area, directly ahead of the double doors you leave from is a small note left on the floor that says "very good proceed ahead" Beyond that note is a hill up to the edge of a cliff which triggers a cut scene that starts the game proper.

How ever, some way somehow despite the note being the first thing you see leaving those doors he read it while facing backwards back into the tutorial area, and can't possible wrap his mind around the fact that the note means to tell you to go the other way up to the cliff edge.
