This is a blue zone imageboard. Shinies and Noddies fuck off.
Playing C&C3's GDI campaign, finished the Sarajevo mission, fuck stealth tanks and Black Hand squads, time for ayy lmao now

people make rts games stil?

I think my family is going to get sick of all the hissing and chestburster sounds tbh.

This is now an RTS/RTT ideas thread. Better here than in a general game ideas thread because more people are familiar with the genre. How can we bring strategy back?

The most interesting thing I can think of to give new life to strategy games is to start adding things from other genres that you wouldn't normally see in strategy games. Of course, we should also have real updates of some great older games. I'd love to see a real-time Final Fantasy Tactics sequel with all the old jobs and some new ones kicking ass in HD, but Yasumi Matsuno is too redpilled on the porky question, so the game would probably never get made nowadays. They could even just rip the job assets directly from FFXIV and as long as the gameplay was good, most people wouldn't care. But we need something new and fresh.

Imagine an RTS game played at a scale much smaller than the human scale that we're used to. A game like that would have incredibly tiny units like bugs or bacteria, with maps tailored to them. You could take it even further by having units so small that quantum effects apply to them. Instead of the fog of war rendering you unable to tell where the enemy army is, both sides' units are so small that they're in a state of quantum flux and thus don't even have a definite position until they're observed, either by you or your opponent. You could have a real-time tactical game with a map where if you did a certain thing, the map flips upside down like Stone Tower Temple in Majora's Mask, and like said temple, the map's ceiling has distinct terrain features and obstacles which can be used to your advantage, so you have to fight for the opportunity to control the map rotation. You could also imagine magnetic boots or anti-gravity systems to cling to the ceiling of a facility without flipping it over, or an O'Neil cylinder out in space where you can circle around to the top of the map just by going along the theta axis. Or how about a strategy game with aspects of a horror game? What if there was a strategy game where your armies of eldritch creatures would drive opponents insane at the very sight of them and you could talk to dead soldiers' spirits to get information like The Sorrow? There's a lot more potential out there than is being used right now.

Spellforce 3 is put soonish but that's a hybrid.

*Out

Was anyone else kinda disappointed in ashes? I only just got it in the humble monthly, and even meager expectations were set too high.

The army system makes movement so floaty, I have no idea when units will get anywhere. Battles are just like those "swarm" rts games where you watch the numbers go down when two fleets hit a planet.

I think Planetary Annihilation is pretty decent. It has a small comfy community, you constantly run into the same people. But also gameplay wise very fun to play. You constantly scout the enemy, you send spy planes at him to see what he is up to so you can safely expand your base.

You play under very high pressure, you constantly have to watch your enemy, your economy and expand at the same time.

...

too soon

you played it and you dislike it? Why? I mean some anons defend Red Alert 3, and that is imo a VERY horrible game. PA on the other hand is definitely over average. And the best thing about it, turtling fucking sucks, you can punish those kinds of players very hard.

I FUCKING HATE THIS GODDAMN INDUSTRY, WHEN WILL THOSE MONTREAL SJW KIKES DIE?

Because the game is a bunch of lies, poorly implemented ideas and broken promises. And because it's worse than both TA and SupCom. Both of those can be played online are now free too. :^)
Reminder that they sold the """expansion""" as a separate game.

Not him, but it just had no character. Everything about the game is fine, but has no longevity. Most things are so fragile I have no reason to invest any interest in their well-being.

Yeah, some of the stuff you can do is cool, like rolling nukes through portals and cracking planets, but after 6 or so conquest games I've seen everything. Playing Ra2 or FA for the same amount of time there's still some freshness to squeeze out of it. I don't know the unit counts, but compared to FA it felt like there were barely any units, maybe because they couldn't be bothered to make factions?

I blame this wave of esports faggotry. If there's a campaign these days it's basically a tutorial for skirmish games. That of course saves you money with writers. On that note, those little planetary descriptions don't count as a story, only a soulsfag would take so little.

This only means the game could have been a lot better, but I'd say the current version is very decent too.
What do you mean by poorly implemented ideas? I'd say it's pretty decent tech wise. You can create your own maps (systems), you got a build in modding system. You can completely balance the game by banning units and shit.
Which is only a problem if you bought the base game lol. Someone who learned about this game late and only bought the second version is not affected by this. I got a (what I would call) decent game for only 8€.
I can agree with that. I think this is due to characters having no names, no voice, no lines. As if all of this wasn't bad enough everything is also low poly. Everything is a grey mess, nothing stands out or is special.

Lol fuck the consumers right?
End yourself.

Disregarding the kikery the game is ok

>>>/a/

Well yes, you just lost some sales here for being a fucking dipshit.
Also admitted to being a shill.

also
now go back

Now we can all talk about the real masterpiece: Dune 2000

In all seriousness I'd like to talk about an RTS that I have not once seen be brought up: Submarine Titans. I'm sure someone here had played it at some point.

sorry but if you like Holla Forums you are a total faggot. Holla Forums supports overwatch, the new rainbow six, sfv and mkx, all sjw trash casual shit games.

DooD

...

What are some good singleplayer RTTs? already played World in Conflict and it was great.
Bannon did everything wrong.

Company of Heroes nigguh

those are the most popular threads on Holla Forums

Chaos Rising was the best part of the new DoW series in my opinion. They trimmed the tedious parts out of the previous campaign without going full casual like Retribution.

It's a good game. I wish I had the opportunity to play it multiplayer. I downloaded it a few months ago and tried the skirmish mode and found the AI to be braindead. Literally. They didn't build anything.
I remember the alien faction being my favourite. Biotech gets me hard in any setting.

(Syrian) Warfare, Men of War (and the various prequels), the Sudden Strike game, Blitzkrieg (and the various spinoffs using the same engine), Blitzkrieg II, the two Freedom force games, MechCommander 1 and 2.

This ought to keep you entertained for a while.

Ground Control

Thank you.
If I may, how's Blitzkrieg 3? I remember seeing it was to be released soon.
Also, anything out there like Syndicate, that isn't Satellite "15 fps" Reign?

So online gaymes when tbh
so I can display how much I suck once more

The game is generic as fuck. What do you even like about it ?

/thread

Because it's still better than The Unnamed One.

Don't you mean
THE FOURTH INSTALLMENT OF THE COMMAND AND CONQUER SERIES?
If yes that's a really low bar to reach

Not just better than that, it's better than RA3 too. No idea why people defend that one in the first place. I really like PA because it's different. You got matches on a single planet, you got matches in which everyone starts on their own planet and you try to catch each other, you got matches in which everybody starts on the same planet and you rush to other planets.

Also as said before, the games are very intense, you constantly spy on the enemy and build around them. You can also try some insane crap like rushing into the enemy with your commander and catching them off guard.

To be completely honest, I had more fun in RA2, RA1 and KW multiplayer, but this game is fun too. But to be honest, it's mostly fun because we have barely any alternatives.

I Dislike it because it's not fun and it doesn't have maps.
It's a worse version of total com and supcom fa.

Is Full Spectrum Warrior a good game?

Total Annihilation*

Brigador has a similar vibe.

I don't know why, but this is what it gives me instead of a screenshot during gameplay.

I still find the old Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds games really fun. Loading up a shitton of AT-ATs w/ repeater Stormtroopers and assaulting built-up enemy bases is super satisfying.

Or using "simonsays" Ewoks if you feel like mercilously massacring the enemy.

Brigador's a top down mech game, it doesn't even have anything to do with strategy or tactics.
Sorry user.

NOPE

It was always shit, both the RTS and the RPG parts are too shallow.

I'll admit: I quit the game once I reached the hell island or whatever.

Because C&C4 came, retroactively making RA3 seem good or at least better then C&C4.

I can stomach C&C3 just fine but RA3 doesn't sit well with me at all, it tries too hard to be wacky, it looks awful, everything feels so short range they might as well have knife fights. Fuck RA3, the only semi-decent idea in it is the whole being able to build on water as well as land.

I wonder if I should shill Empires Mod and see if anons would be interested in a gamenight? It's basically Battlefield and C&C combined, one person plays as a commander will players play as the units.
Shouldn't be too hard to get anons to play right considering it's free and runs on toasters?

ai war 2 should come around some time this year, thatll be interesting but i wonder how it will compete with the sheer amount of content in the original.

having all the hero units be cute girls was also a good idea

Armies of Exigo.

Fucking hard ass game.

RA3 Tanya is worst Tanya
RA2 had better girls and some of them didn't look like sluts.

There was some intense interest for a while, but it was discovered that a bunch of fags from the forums were shilling the game here in order to revive it. I wonder if you're one of them…

Honestly, I thought it was a stupid reason for people to drop the game because it seemed cool, but I guess people just don't like the idea that they were manipulated into playing it. It's not like it was shilled for questionable purposes, anyways.

I hate to break it to you, but commando units were always played by and voiced by porn actresses.

blatant marketing, kill yourself CA.

that seems like a "they didn't really think about that" and "anons getting paranoid over something little" but I agree with the anons reaction to it tbh, don't want actual shills learning a new method why can't they just fucking state their position and make a legitimate thread?

the people who play this game do indeed care about these kinda things

Original War

Which pron actress was in c&c?

I want to play Graviteam Tactics: Operation Star, but I can't find any torrents for it

Cuil, I've just started playing Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 again for the past few days, they run like absolute fucking shit but they are so good. I also played Dune 2000 with OpenRA, Dune 2000 sucked ass. I really can't wait for OpenRA to support Red Alert 2 and Tiberian Sun.

Is Generals any good?

Why is Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 the apex of the series?

Because it was before EA hit full swing.

Makes sense, I've just started watching that vid posted above, they sold out to EA and then released Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 back to back, I had no idea Tiberian Sun was rushed out, too bad Grey Goo sucked dicks.

generals is good but it's not really a C&C game

Tib sun has dat aesthetics and RA2 has more stuff tbh

What an inorganic shill post

The only rts games I like are DoW and a few xbox 360 games. Is there a DoW clone that doesn't have the plastic look in every other fucking rts game?

impossible creatures is relics prior game that they used the engine for in dow+expansions

I stopped playing supcom for a while and moved to Cossacks 3, it feels a lot more low tech but strangely comfy and I enjoy the high unit counts more than I expected, I only wish the little faggots didn't break formation and clip through each other when fighting.

I specifically formatted it so you didn't have to use the link and the video is just Indypride going over the roster and explaining the lore.

So started playing Red Alert 3, just me or would the game have been a lot better if the units were tougher and the economy a lot faster?

Holy shit. They nailed it. What went wrong?

Severely fucked up balance cause of "muh esports"

This is the complete reverse of fun. Nod's campaign worse than GDI by a long shot.

Why does that pic make me so horny

Granted, commando missions are fucking cancer but that's an obvious strategy to take.

The correct way of doing this mission is actually video related :^)
It makes no sense that the GDI and Scrin don't shoot you on sight to begin with but this is how this mission rolls

I remember that on PC that entire mission existed to show off the waypoint command.

It was much more difficult on the Xbox where you didn't have that function.

Speaking of C&C/RTS

What is everyone's favorite mods?

I'm a big fan of pic related.

Rise of the Reds
Shockwave
Beginning of the End Times
Europa Barbarorum 1&2
Third Age Total War

DAILY REMINDER TO PURGE THE GOYIM BY THE SERAPHIM

Get it from IGG-games .com user, I got the both Minus Front and Tank Warfare: Tunisia from there and those both work fine. Though I dunno if they have the release with every DLC campaign.

I asked on the sharethread and was provided a link, but thanks for the advice to find the others.

Its funny how you can hear crickets at night even though you're on fucking Mars

Playing online RTS games with faggots from here again when tbh

my nigga

I've been trying to get into RTS games but they're so fucking tedious and slow. Most of the older game campaigns are just "turtle for 30-60 minutes until you build up massive force, steamroll enemy, repeat every scenario".

It's looking alright. I'm torn on CA adding more combat animations.

...

Like poetry
How the fuck are these supposed to work

Slav/Chink Funs Magic.

Oh, almost forgot: Your thoughts on Age of Empires Remaster? Aside from "cashgrab", that is.

I've never played the original AoE but I guess some updates to it like that idle villager button, keybindings, modern resolution support and other "quality of life" shit can be decent, graphically it didn't look much better, I guess the zoom feature might be useful for some people but then again this is a Microsoft franchise so they might tie it to Windows 10, then again Halo Wars isn't.

Original AoE2 had idle villager button, hotkey support, and even the tutorial told you to rebind it to anything that's more confortable to you because it's useful as fuck to keep track of the clusterfuck that is AoE resource macromanagement.
AoE2HD graphics are using the alpha version of the game, the Gold/Retail release actually has better graphics than the expansions, sans the new factions introduced in Forgotten Empires which are actually well made but they're technically a free community-made mod being sold by micro$hit as DLC, so they don't really count.

Oh I thought you were talking about the AoE1 remake that was revealed at E3

I'm sorry, i din't watch E3 because i consider it utter eceleb garbage so i din't know this was about an Ages of Empires 1 remaster.
Hope they don't fuck with the campaings, they're actually quite intrincate compared to AoE2 despite the lower scale and thus are quite atmospheric. You should try getting a torrent of an AoE1 iso while you still can to play them since they're fun.

Stop being a hipster and get a flatscreen already ffs

You wouldn't happen to have a link to that download, would you?

This is going to sound retarded but did you enable the AI? Because the AI is not braindead. They will actively send patrols round their perimeter, probe your defenses and conduct raids.
t.faggot who has the disc

yes goys, buy a g-sync monitor already

I actually came in here to ask about any potential high level strats. I'm not great at RTS, but every so often I practice and get a little better. Most of my production capability seems to translate well from SupCom, but it feels like once I produce and place better than my opponent's, that's all there is to it. Are there no single unit victory strats? In FA a single
t3 battleship , inadequately defended against, could wreck your shit. It doest feel like any similar dynamic exists in ashes but I'd love to be proven wrong

Oh, almost forgot - Mastodon is literally Yuri's Revenge Soviet helicopter.

God fucking damnit, for the memory of Kane don't let this fucking thread die you faggots.

...

Recently played a bit Starcraft's Terran campaign, considering dropping it since this is just plain boring so far.

That was the inspiration behind it but the devs couldn't get it to work properly so it was scrapped :^)

Pic related, this is (You)

me on the left

When I first saw that I half expected webm related to happen.

And people wonder why nobody wants to play old RTS games on multiplayer these days?
For those underage fags who don't what "Noob Only" matches entails, it basically means several faggots will stack one side and only play against new players to pad their win ratio since they can't play against anyone good

Kane lives in death!
Though doesn't help that RTS is doomed to repeated failures, sort of like the MMO market, before someone may grow a braincell and try to actually make a decent game

...

Nigger what? Are you retarded or merely pretending?

I actually didn't read that spoiler for reasons I don't quite get my self

Nigger please, get some sleep.
We Remove GDI tomorrow!

PEACE THROUGH POWER

why the fuck couldn't the tib sun MMORTS actually have been made and released?

Two little letters for you user hidden in this spoiler EA
Though if it's any consolation, it wasn't the only project nor MMO actually axed during that time from the same company. There was a Battletech MMO, sequel to Air Warrior, Space MMO which incidentally was being made by Westwood as well among dozens of other projects and games cause EA were up shit creek without a paddle in early 2000's and nearly died

wasn't that the time where they were releasing decent games though?

Pretty much, but they bought dozens of studios like a crackwhore let loose at a methlab. Overexpanded and nearly sank the company. They used their talent they bought up to shove out some pretty good games cause it was still an era when you did have to put some effort into a project to get noticed, but then learned the art of printing money.
Come 2003 they put all their cards on sure things that they knew would sell and had a brand at the time, i.e Battlefield, Medal of Honor, Sims, Need for Speed, plus fucktons of sports and branded racing games
Command and Conquer funny enough was actually part of that list of sure things for EA but after Renegade flopped and Generals though widely received didn't sell so good the series was pretty much axed, only revived later cause they thought they could take shekels away from Starcraft 2 and the short lived RTS "e-sports" scene.

their had their sports titles way before 2000 though

They had all those titles bar Niggafield pre 2000

Sounds like a fun time and by that fun enough to blow your brains out.

Also reminder that Noddies get cucked by their leader in the end.

Got any good rts that don't require a bajillion actions per second to play? Something slower than supreme commander. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and play city builders

That pic always confuses me.

To revive RTS and make it great again, what is needed is a good Hentai RTS, another based around World War Loli, one about Penguins taking over the world and another about being a Bond Villain. In otherwords unique ideas that are fun to play and not dry carbon copies of shit we had decades ago but with less features and fun

They didn't follow the flight plan.

Submarine Titans if you can get it to work or Rise of Nations and maybe Dungeon Keeper but we're not allowed to talk about Dungeon Keeper on Holla Forums apparently

Was the second one any better? I think I played the first one and thought it was pretty average.

if you can get it to work

no it wasn't, it was a step down as well

Is aliens Vs. Predator on PS2 still $40 used because it a really good game, or is it just expensive due to being a collectors item for alien & predator fans?

17 days ago, how is this thread still alive?

Necrons

muh nigga. Probably one of the very last really good strategy games out there. They even made a whole playable faction just for the tutorial. Where do you see such attention to detail and passion nowadays, user? Where?

Humans were actually meant to be playable but got cut in the time crunch

lel, this is all Holla Forums cares about, good 2d girls. Overwatch and MKX/SFV/Injustice posts are allowed because of this. Those 3 are very horrible games, casual trash on the same level as CoD but people on Holla Forums still talk about it because those games have hot 2d in it.

...

was it sarcasm? Because I am honestly very bad at detecting it.

I wonder why.

Lord deliver us from this den of shit taste.

Also I wish Massive didn't work on The Division and instead dropped a couple more WiC's. It's always easy to tell how an FPSMMO will turn out (shit), but I would have liked to see where they went with the mechanics, even despite the severe lack of basebuilding

On that note as well, what do you guys make of the intense lack of consistent releases on that front? Games where basebuilding is a solid thing that aren't StarCraft seem to be a dying breed now, and what does come out just seems to poorly ape what came prior. Why don't we have some weird experimental set of mechanics involving heavy base building and resource management on top of substantial and (((fun))) unit management/combat. Why do I have to go back to 07/08 or earlier for good basebuilding?

Some titles with basebuilding did try some things like Grey Goo (muh goo faction) and Act of Aggression (muh randomized ressource points you have to scout for, multiple ressource types as opposed to credits based economy of Generals and Act of War) for the best or the worst. Given that RTS is still considered a niche market not many devs besides a handful of indie devs (which all collapse at some point) and those known to make these are willing to make one.

I'm going to shill this game.

The problem is that those games are more dead than Quake 3, so if/when I wanna move beyond bots, I have to convince someone else to play the game with me. I already have a hell of a time doing that with AFPS and Fighting games, and one of the few people I can drag into games is a hardcore SCfag who wont touch anything else

Meanwhile, I can still get matches in SupCom by virtue of FAF, and all the big releases these days are either nobase RTT games, or have very light basebuilding mechanics

I can only hope that Chris Taylor magics himself into some cash and rebuilds a good team, because Blizzard and Relic sure aren't going to deliver and basically any indie title is going to die in ~30 days
