Grinding for air raider is suffering but it's way easier if you've got friends to play with. Grinding weapons for wing diver is not so bad, though. It's my favorite class so I might be a bit biased, but you would have to worry more about grinding armor since even the lower level Idunn weapons and plasma launchers can get the job done on Hard difficulty

I mostly play Wing Diver. Your not wrong, but the real problems are that she has mostly shit for weapons, and the weapons that are good drop off in usefulness fast. I have a couple quality gems from playing through a fuckton of multiplayer with friends, and doing the first few missions on Inferno, but I really got to unlock more missions to grind, not only weapons, but also armor. By contrast, Air Raider has way more options that don't absolutely blow, and since his armor curve goes faster, you're not stuck with 500 armor when you should have 1000, like with Wing Diver. Ranger's okay, but kinda boring, and too easy. I chose the hardest class to play for shits and giggles, figuring I might as well, and it ended up growing on me, so now I'm stuck doing twice as much work to keep up with my buds. Good game though.

The real problem is that it's easy to cheese the early missions with the Laser Chainsaw and another weapon (Idunns, Plasma Launchers), but as you get up into the higher missions and difficulties, Plasma Launchers and other shit that has one ammo becomes less desirable, since you're flying around so much that you really can't afford to take directly out of your pack's energy. I'm still waiting on a higher level Idunn, since LASRs and LSRLs aren't nearly as satisfying to use. At least the Laser Chainsaw can be largely supplanted by higher level Rapiers without a loss of effectiveness.

Traditional metal is a good place to start becuase trad metal is mostly melodic and typically not too edgy compared to burning churches and mutilated corpses.
Power metal is also good because it is sort of like trad metal on crack. Fast, melodic, big singing vocals, they also talk about dragons for some reason.
Thrash metal (Anthrax is in case you didn't know.) is like speed metal mixed with punk, so it's heavier than trad metal and power metal but still relatively easy to listen to. Uses similar vocals to what Anthrax uses IE not really singing, mostly yelling.
For my personal reccomendations I would say listen to Rust in Peace - Megadeth (thrash, my favourite album, it's what got me into metal) Painkiller - Judas Priest (speed/trad) The Number of The Beast - Iron Maiden (traditional) The Keeper of the Seven Keys - Helloween (power)

Folk metal. Really any kind of folk metal. Some is more energetic than others, but most of it is pretty easy to listen to. Folk metal has a much stronger focus on melody than typical metal which is usually focused on rhythm and the occasional riff. You'll also notice that most folk metal strongly is representative of its source country, as you'd expect. German folk metal almost sounds renaissance-like, where Finnish and Norwegian has a strong polka vibe. Higurashi. Season 1 is good, except for Arc 2 and the whole "it was aliens!" bullshit. Now starting Kai, but I don't think it is as good as S1 from what I seeing. Despite trying to mix it with slice-of-life stuff, Hig S1 had some good atmosphere with some great suspense. I especially love Arc 3's sense of helplessness. It would be better if they did not try to explain every single little thing, leave stuff up for the viewer's imagination.

There's something about JRPGs that strikes me as almost hollow and soulless. I've played a number of them, Golden Sun was by far the best, and Last Remnant oh fucking god Last Remnant was the most autistic/difficult. But the majority of JRPGs I come across just have this kind of flat, soulless feel to them. Most of them seem to blend together, especially artstyle wise, and they generally have a random assortment of systems in them and a grindy component to them that requires just racking up time.
I don't know, I can't articulate it well. It seems to me that JRPGs are mostly cookie cutter copycats of what they think RPGs are supposed to be, but the majority of them strike me as brightly colored generic games.
This is not to say anything about how Western RPGs are, I'm not talking about that or implying anything about that subject.

That game was absolute trash.

I'm not defending it, only mentioning it was the most difficult/irritating JRPG I played. It wasn't a great experience. And no, I didn't grind, but I got to Gates of Hell, it was impossible for my team to beat, and this was back in the day when at that point in the game you couldn't go back, you were stuck there with no warning. So yeah.
