Recommend me MMO: the thread

Ok I think I'll bring up my old past to give you guys the idea of my experiences with MMOs. I hope you'll recommend me something that isn't Wurm.

Part 1/2

1/10 Unplayable.
I tried it on friend's account 10+ years ago. It was slow, ugly, boring and all sorts of unappealing. I didn't like a single bit about it.
Recently it got some big ass update, so I decided to try it, especially since you can start playing it for free and it still the same shit - slow, boring and ugly. Fuck that game

4/10 barely enjoyable
I played in the same period as wow originally, and like it a lot more. It was prettier, cooler more intense and overall much better experience. But still it was slow and boring game, and everyone looked the same and was running like an idiot. Never touched it since then.

6/10 not bad
The next big MMO I ever played. Absolutely beautiful, much faster paced and with high quality animations it occupied me for a good month. And then I got bored of it, because rotations through huge pool of abilities, as I understood is a basis of classic MMO combat, was more like busywork than actual combat. And while initial character customization was amazing, actual in-game dress up was limited as fuck and stock armor you were finding along the way all looked shitty.

5/10 overrated mediocrity
I probably should have played it right after Aion, but as a matter of fact I played it after games like PSO2, Warframe and Vindictus, and return to slower paced delay-based combat, even if it presented itself as action was pretty painful. Very limited character customization, Aion's plastic graphics and limited dress up options didn't help either. Maybe it was amazing for its prime time, but now it's conceptually outdated as fuck.

2/10 buy lockbox key work points silly goy: the game
It was advertised as graphical power house, but in reality it looked like slightly polished up Lineage 2. But in terms of gameplay it was fucking Lineage 2, a game that I found boring 10 goddamned years ago. Also work points motherfucker, buy it!

3/10 piece of shit
Archeage with Star Wars skin. Well instead of lockboxes free players got gimped exp and loot, so you were forced to grind the same areas for longer to proceed. Shitty graphics, boring gameplay, all that too. Fuck this game.

4/10 Not as bad as I expected
I played it on private server, so it would be unfair to actually judge it. It wasn't as terrible as I expected, managed to occupy me for a whole week.

7/10 Solid singleplayer game
I get where all the hate comes from - you finish 6 hours long story and long for more, but the only thing left is soulless grind. Then don't fucking grind motherfucker, just move onto next game. Yeah I liked Warframe as a small 1-playthrough game, I never bothered to grind for anything, good graphics, good combat, actually nice voice acting too. Play it once if you haven't already.
6-10 hours of solid space ninja action.

6/10 Good combat, shit everything else
I expected it to be the same as warframe, but I didn't got any interesting story, and I was forced into grinding right off the bat. Graphics were very meh, characters look nice, but the rest is pretty bad. Combat was good enough, but the rest of the game was super repetitive and samey.

4/10 You can't go there yet: the game
It didn't fucking let me outta the starting town before I completed boring long-ass quest with shit cut-scenes where everyone uses the same 5 looped motions and no voice acting. Mediocre graphics, boring combat and a lot of waiting and gating. Can't even use the best cards for triple triad, gotta grind some card level or some other nonsense. This game is not complete garbage, but fuck it.

5/10 Whacking
I shouldn't have enjoyed it as much as I did. All you do is run through areas and whack shit. Maybe use a couple of your 4 abilities which are essentially whacking for more damage. Visuals are cool, music is great, and combat system consisting of 1 attack it god-tier. But after 1 week of playing I realized that gameplay didn't change a single bit, so I dropped it.

4/10 ToS's granpa
Basically the same as above except you don't even get to use any abilities for your first 70~ levels or something. At least that was the impression I got. It was slow, boring and monsters' sounds were unbearable. Didn't even spend 10 hours on it.

part 2/2

4/10 Wasted potential
Oh shit, such a sad game. It has really cool setting, nice graphics and combat system that looks like improved version of Tera's one. But the amount of missions, weapons and things to do is so limited, that you'll run out of new things to do really soon, at which point the grind starts. What a shame.

7/10 Dynasty Warriors Online 2
Great graphics, great combat, huge truly open world, what's not to like? Well for starters apart from killing shit and riding horses there isn't anything to do in this open world and the western release is pay to win as shit, despite being buy to play game. But really fun combat and very high production values made me enjoy the game a huge deal.
If you're interested but don't want to drop 30 bucks on it - play russian version. It's just as pay to win, but at least is free. Not sure if it has english option or not though.

6/10 Censored Soul
I played russian pirate version before NA one was released, and after censorship bullshit decided to boycott the game. So yeah, you're either stuck with shitty outdated private server run by slavs or with fucking censored one. Or try and play korean or japanese version I dunno, this is hard one.
Game itself is cool though. It tries to combine action and reaction with fighting games mechanics - parrying, juggling, counters, that sorts of things. Needless to say that big latency can ruin the game.
Also it's pretty as shit.

3/10 Another wasted potential
Beautiful artstyle and music. Horrible everything else. It's so mindbogglingly boring, I couldn't play it more than 15 hours total. And I gave the game like 4 chances across the years. What a waste of assets.

8/10 Another good single player game
Really, I just played through the story, butchered a bunch of heroes and then spent like 70 hours collecting capes, boots, masks and all that shit. My proudest achievement is completing "detective" outfit - a cool trench coat with necktie and a fedora, actual fucking fedora, not atheist meme hat. I can't even tell if scouting map for piece is grinding or not, but it was pretty cool and interesting experience. Good combat, cool moving system and actual open world added to it greatly.
If you ask me to recommend you an MMO, I recommend DCUO, hand down.

Wasted assets /10
Well I have troubled history with this game. First when I even heard of it, nexon already closed it in the west. Then I finally got into neople's open beta or alpha revival and the next day it fucking closed. THEN I got into reopened game a fucking year later, and story was completely different, I felt lost and noticed stamina system which triggered me for no reason and I uninstalled it for good. When it got released on steam I gave it another chance starting from scratch and apart from absolutely beautiful 2D graphics game holds no value whatsoever. Combat is barebones, enemies are braindead, the only difficulty is stats and rooms take less time to clear than to load.

how is WoW slow at all? if anything it's the most ADHD of the entire genre with pointless shit constantly happening around you.

Yeah, but Tera has Elin.

Have you tried Mabinogi yet? It's been a while since I last played but I remembered really liking it when I tried it.
Don't know it's current state but you might enjoy it.

might as well just kill youself

Maybe at the end game after I spend 100 hours of grinding shit, but the first 2 were turbo slow and boring.

Not gonna like, I probably spent more time in my life fapping on elin porn than playing Tera.

Yeah I played it. I probably should update my pasta for further use. Now I see it's missing a couple of other games as well.

Thanks for time spent typing that anyway.

Runescape.

Ha ha.

Planet Forever
It's a private server of a now-shutdown MMO called Earth Eternal. Basically it's WoW with furries (not the porn kind or the kemono kind, but the more serious kind) and there isn't much yiffing in the game or in the community (considering it's not all that active), however I used to play it a lot as a kid so it's basically a nostalgia trip for me as I'm exploring the parts of the game world I've never been to before. All things considered it's pretty standard, though the combat does allow for some interesting multiclassing. Something of note is that the game does feature some interesting lore, even though most of it is detailed in a 60-or so pages long .pdf file rather than really appearing in-game.

While it may be a simple hobby project, there is some dedication involved as you can see with this fuckhuge history page deeply detailing the development process of the private server these past one and a half years: theanubianwar.com/history/tsoa

I think it's pretty comfy (whatever that means), but not the best. The devs are planning some big shit and a new expansion based off unused content from the original version, so that could be interesting.

Is EoC actually interesting in the grand scale (outside of the given grinding)? I've never bothered when it came out considering my toaster at the time already had trouble running RS3 to begin with.

You played an mmo by yourself?

Well OP, there's always Star Citizen :^)

Part 3/2

5/10 Holds up better than WOW
Played it for a few hours and despite being ancient as shit it looks and plays surprisingly nicely. Great customization and interesting leveling mechanics coupled with unconventional combat and secondary weapons properly displaying on model result in it being much more fun and engaging game than you would expect from MMO. Chances are if I played it when it was just released it would be my favorite game for years to come.
Never got far in it so I can't say how grind or p2w it is.

I hate dreamcast controls /10
I played only the dreamcast version and was surprised by how well combat and art style for something that old and ugly holds up. Great music and atmosphere too.
Controls were ass though, I wonder if PC version played better.

2/10 PSO reverse: benny hill edition
Basically game looks nice even today, but plays like complete ass. I tried PC version and controls were fucking horrible. What made me drop it is some surreal comedy scene with furries outta nowhere making borderline fart jokes and then running away after you beat them. How could it possibly be related to Phantasy Star I don't know.

They ruined it/10
Well I played it for so long that I can't even coherently form my complaints and complements about it. It drew me in with crazy visual customization and borderline cuhrayzee combat, so I guess there is that. It also drastically changes direction in both theme and gameplay philosophy every few months, it ended up being a huge clusterfuck of everything, both good and bad. At least story did away with fart jokes. And furries.

3/10 Another borefest
Well it presents itself as action MMO, but it's not. It's a wow "modernized" clone through and through, slow, boring and ugly.

Bootleg Tera/10
Literally Tera but without elin. I think they closed it for a while now.

1/10 Wow reskin
Well it's a wow reskin! I think they closed as well.

Well if there is an mmo beatem up why can't there be an mmo platformer? So there it is, very floaty, unresponsive and with challenge only coming from gearchecks. It's basically the same as DFO but without any beautiful graphics.

Yeah, might as well kill yourself.

MMORPGs are a dead genre.

Well yes?
It's a nice single player game. With MMO moniker. For some reason.
I mean you can slap MMO sticker on something like Diablo 2 or Quake or Jedi Knight and it will be pretty much the same situation.
I don't even know what kind of multiplayer there is in DCUO. I think it's some sorta team PvP but I never played it.

It's faster and looks better so yeah it's marginally better than wow. It's not much of an accomplishment though.

MMOs are a waste of time. Literally anything is a better use of your time than playing one of them

Guild Wars, but 1 is dead (Pvp etc.), and 2 is shit.

Getting dopamine from performing easy instant gratification tasks is not waste of time, it's good for your health.
What people don't realize is that you should stop playing once your dopamine stops incoming. That's why I rarely spend more than 1 or 2 hours per day on such games.

Well fuck man, why are you even posting it?
Which it is?
I remember anons posting about GW2 being infested with SJWs and getting shit censored and outright removed from it, so yeah I aint touching it.

If you do t want to be a gay little baby, try UO or Project 1999. They are shit but at least it's the original shit experience before WoW fagged everything up even more.

Let's be honest, I want some visually pretty disposable mmo to have light fun for an hour per day, not second job that looks worse than dreamcast game from 20 years ago.
I mean Ultima doesn't look half bad, in fact it looks better than Ragnarok, but that Everquest thing is horrendous.

Sorry haha, 1 is quite nice, and you can solo the campains (with AI henchman or heroes). But I don't think it has a lot of replay value anymore, it's probably worth the cost/hours played though.

GW2 is just all kinds of grindy boring bullshit, but it looks pretty.

Well shit at this rate you should all build a time machine and go back to the 80's and play Air Warrior.

Thanks for reminding me there there is no VR support for Mechwarrior games and thus no reason to buy it.

Then you're in the wrong genre entirely. Maybe Skyrim is more your speed.

We had a path of exile thread up a while ago. MMO-ish, but that only sorta counts because you can just as easily play the whole thing solo.

Am I really? And yeah I played skyrim, it bored me to tears. There gotta be sweet spot between hardcore and brain dead. Something both engaging and relaxing. That's what mmos are for. Modern ones at least.

Oh I played plenty of that. I don't count it as mmo, but I probably should. Well unlike WF or DCUO I've never even seen another player in PoE.

Gundam Online

Isn't it basically battlefield with gendum skin?
Is there even PvE content?

Ragnarok is different from ToS in every way except visually.
The base combat is much worse, I'll give you that.
Whacking the enemies does feel nice and you can walk around nicely in ToS. In RO it's a very dated point and click/targeting game.

But the real deal is the content.
In RO there's basically no questlines to guide you, you grind monsters only based entirely on what you can or can't manage to kill at a decent rate.
Party play is also essential, pure support and tank classes are a thing and mages or similar clases have huge nukes that are very impractical in solo play because of the very long cast times. And strong monsters WILL fucking kill you. You can basically go to any area in the game from the start, there are teleport systems but they're mostly to go from certain towns to other towns, and almost any field has agressive monsters that you will have to deal with. They're not bound to specific spawn locations, they can spawn enywhere on the map at random(with a few exceptions but those are still random in large portions of the map) and will follow you up trying to kill you until you change maps.
There's no instances and the strong monsters are actually in the open fields or dungeons for every player to encounter. Want a rare item? Go grind where the monster that rarely drops it spawns, be wary of other players doing the same and the occasional "much stronger than you monster that also happens to spawn on that map" that will make you run for your life.
The gear also is very consistent. You don't get new gear from quests every 5 levels. A high damage sword is a high damage sword and you can use it from level 40 onwards, the only way to get better gear is to upgrade that sword, to get a weapon with more sockets than that, or to get an elemental weapon either by rare drop or having it made by a blacksmith player.

WWWWWWWW

Why would you play an MMO if you want a single player game. Calling it battlefield is a bit weird because the only ismilarities is it's class based (Support, Heavy Assault, Assault, Sniper, artillery)

Here's a faggot that doesn't have any friends to play co-op with.
Things like Monster Hunter and PSO2 are amazing to play with friends and they have 0 PvP content. Too bad PSO2 12-members multi-parties and cheap ass moon-automisers ruin it.

Well that's the issue with RO. You're expected to spend 90% of your time fighting, and fighting system is shit. I guess it's fine for socializing, forming bonds and guilds and doing all that old-school stuff, but then we're venturing into second job/life territory.

I mean it's not a fucking mmo mate. It's an arena shooter. It's like calling Quake 3 or well Battlefield mmo.
I'm not shitting on your game, it might as well be the best arena shooter in the world, but get your definitions straight.

I wouldn't mind mech-based mmo though. I played a bit of that low-poly one, something Break. Not huge fan of chibi stuff.

Mate you're thinking of MMORPG, even then this is technically a RPG since you're playing the role of a soldier from either the EFF or Zeon.

I need to expound on the AI. They exist to job and for you to test out MS. think of them as simulator dummies.

My has technology regressed.

Battlefield is also "Massive Multiplayer Online game". It has fucking 32 on 32 matches for fuck's sake.
Now what?

Make a new one gramps. I'll play it.

Elder Scrolls Online is actually rather decent.

+Big world filled with things to do
+Most characters have VA'ers
+You can do w/e you want to level up (Not limited to grinding)
+Not P2W (P2P)

-No open world PVP
-limited customization
-Everything is scaled to your level, so leveling become a pain (since armor/weapons do not scale with you)

It just bothers me that I become weaker as I level up, doesn't make sense.

Meh, last thing I actually enjoyed playing was Dragonica 6 years ago, after which most things I played was just to pass the time.

Gundam Online is 51v51

Also so?

How's the combat?

So if everything is mmo then nothing is mmo.

Pretty much this. I never liked playing archer so I never did it. Only recently I made one with Holla Forums's guild on a private server and it was much better shooting and juking monsters and trapping stronger ones while avoiding getting hit than simply clicking monsters and tanking them or nuking passive monsters with glass cannons. Still pretty crap combat.
My other problems with it are the way drop and experience rates work. Drops have items that are way too rare and private servers can only multiply drop rates, so a x5 drop rate has 20% drop items dropping at 100% and and 0,01 dropping at a still miserable 0,05.
The problem with experience is the giant curve it has. with low rate servers such as 10x you'll blast trough low levels like nothing until about level 80, then it you'll have to grind the same high level monsters for days. It doesn't help that you have to start over again with an even steeper curve after reaching max level.
The classes are also not very balanced and some classes like the merchant tree don't work very well as mains nowadays.

If the AI enemies aren't challenging or fun to play against it just means that the specific game's PvE is shit. As anything, it can be done right or wrong.

Shit.

10 skills usable, 5 per skill bar.

Depending on how good you are; if you're just playing casually it's mostly about resource management and spamming the skills you like the most (while keeping up DoTs).

If you're good, then it's about canceling animations are simply pumping out DPS/healing/whatever.

Mind you, I was never good.

I wouldn't say it's shit, I'd say it's simple.

Again who gives a fuck about PvE except people who want to play a MMO like a giant single player game with a tacked on chat room functionality.

Again why would you play an MMO if you're just going to play it by yourself?

To be the Kirito and show off how high your numbers are compared to the numbers of other people.

Not gotta lie TESO is pretty hard sell. Not only it's a western game based on a franchise I'm not a huge fan of, but it's also pretty pricey and requires sub.
I had to play quite extensively on free server of BDO before buying super-discounted version. And I somehow got into FF14 for dirt cheap as well.
I'll put it at the back on my mind, maybe upcoming summer sale will cover it, but I'd rather have something else for now.

The most precious and important video game audience in the world - me.

I actually plan to play with anons, I just want something fresh and new, something I didn't spent hours at already.

It almost sounds like PvE games can be competitive.

into the trash

As scratching can be competitive too

OP LITERALLY SUCKS COCKS AND JUST WANTS A SINGLE PLAYER GAME WITH A CHAT ROOM STRAPPED TO IT

IT TOOK YOU 46 POSTS TO FIGURE OUT?!
I mean you consider arena shooters MMOs so I kinda see some people may get misguided by my request as well.

Op is confirmed for chink.

OP IS A SOULLESS KOREAN THAT ONLY WANTS TO GRIND BECAUSE THE ONLY THING KOREANS ARE ONLY GOOD AT GOLD FARMING

Ah, you do not have to sub.
If I'm correct the game is 10~, and if you want the add-ons it's 30.

I fear to ask what's wrong with it beyond having no content past first 6 hours.

I just want comfy grindan with anons. Don't you dare to judge me!

FUCK OFF GOOK

A fast (but not lightning) paced action-oriented massively multiplayer game with a focus on PvE content as much as – if not more than – PvP content that isn't either heavily instanced or lobby based?

I'm looking for something like that too, OP. Let me know if you find one.

toontown
because you hate your life just as much as i do

If all you wanted is to post your 10 years old gendum reaction images go on ahead, I might save a couple if I like them.

I actually don't mind
I doubt there is anything apart from BDO that even tries to get away from lobby system while maintaining fast hitbox combat.

N-no thanks.

nobody likes grinding for items, or being able to pay for those items with cash shop. Warframe fucked up by making item searches irrelevant since you can pay them for real world money along with days long crafting cooldowns.

There's always Return of Reckoning.

Dragon's Dogma Online

The same reason you'd play any offline co-op game.
The charm is being able to solo some content and teaming up to either face stronger content or to have an easier, more enjoyable time on the soloable content. Or to just have fun with some bros and or temporarily teaming up with randoms with similar goals.
The problem with the PvE with many recent MMOS is that it's not challenging or engaging at all and rather just a tool you can mindlessly grind solo with no risk just to get stronger and then do the same shit but faster.

You're just socially awkward

I like grinding when there is feeling of gradual progression and growth of power. WF does that poorly. And yeah being able to buy shit outright is a little too p2w. Then again if your playing it for hundreds of hours you deserve your suffering.

Huh! That looks like slightly slower PSO2 with DD skin. How difficult is it to get in compared to PSO2? Do they IP block gaijins? Is there translation patch for menus at least?

That looks like straight up World of Warcraft.

Tell us what's wrong with Runescape.

You clearly have enough autism seeing all this shit you wrote about 70 other MMOs.

It looks ugly.
And combat looks not fun.
Why play it?

It's not about having a certain amount of autism, it's about having a certain KIND of autism.

What if you have fried your dopamine receptors from former methamphetamine addiction? What then? How does one then derive enjoyment from an MMO?

GOOK CONFIRMED FOR SHIT TASTES

more meth

Yes you can tell whether combat is good or bad by looking at it for more than couple of minutes.

So you haven't even tried it.

Why not? It's free and one of the most popular MMOs, clearly there's something to like about it. I don't expect you to like it though based on this thread, I don't expect you to like any MMO.

Also

Is this some kind of gif denuvo? How do I get good version?

...

age of wushu is really, really good, but it's p2w as shit and it's an extreme time investment. It becomes like a second job.
as far as sandbox mmos go, it's really in a class of its own, in spite of its many faults.

Been playing a lot of EVE lately, enough to buy an Omega account. Really fun, but don't solo, join a small corp

try non mmo games. I heard they are fun.

Yeah, fond memories made with your internet childhood friends decades ago.

But ok, look, it was the same with mabinogi. It looked old and ugly and shit but anons managed to sell it to me with in-depth character customization and combat that actually feel good but looks like shit. That kinda contradicts my previous post, but it's one exception I can come up with. It's basically a more elaborate rock-paper-scissors system that requires actual player's input depending on what enemy is doing. In a way it is more reactive and less lag-dependent than wow garbage half a year before wow was a thing.
If you think that Runescape holds up even today by some merits you might as well elaborate on how. Maybe even not me, but somebody else will pick it up.

Yeah I tried to download it when it was on steam and my antivirus went nuclear on it. They removed it a couple of years after that. Also you make it sound like something I explicitly don't want.

I play them between mmos. Or do you think people can only play one sort of game?

How would that make sense?
I'm talking about offline co-op games, as in couch co-op or lan or wireless portables or whatever.
Not about playing online multiplayer games offline by myself.

I think Runescape 3 is shit and Classic is nostalgia bait that doesn't work anymore.

I just think it's dumb to dismiss something so easily accessible when you're looking for things in the same category. You've spent over 3 hours in this thread so clearly you're not some busy adult with half an hour of free time per day, you could've gotten a decent feel for the game in that time.

It's saturday mate.

I seriously wish they'd more games like ragnarok battle offline.

...

*where I live

I guess this is a good place to ask
What mmos have Australian servers that aren't wow

Bruh

It fucking is!
Stop bullying!

OP confirmed for literally being a Korean, abandon thread.

Pls no.
I still haven't got any new mmo to play.

Its literally one of the few MMOs left that is about the journey, not the end game. Its one that forces you to have a community and not be a raging autist who wants to solo everything.

Y'all niggas don't even loremaster.

Make its combat and controls not suck and I'll give another go.

Why the fuck had nobody mentioned MapleStory? OP go join a pre-BB nostalgic maplestory server like Legends, Saga, Royals or Slimetales.

I absolutely love the game, but I also aknowledge it's flaws, Askardt.

Mostly it's what is saying.
My only problem with the grind is that it's either too easy to grind low levels and medium rate items(that become super common on even 3x) And it's insane grind for rare items(specially cards even on 100x it's a very small chance) and high levels. And resetting for transclasses is some korean ass cuckery and messes with the balance specially with the extra classes.

From what I gathered RO would benefit from having TOS combat and controls, while TOS would benefit from RO world and character interaction rules.
I guess you can't have everything.

Pretty much
I remember saying that ToS ironically got everything RO did wrong right but got everything RO did right wrong when the beta came out.

If you are Korean you should have plenty to choose from already. It's not like your time is worth anything

I'm not. Fucking. KOREAN!
Gimme games now!

Does it really need to be an MMO?
You REALLY need to play with other players?
If not, try playing some Elona, it always kills my urge to play grindan games at my own pace.

I've been feeling the MMO itch too. Right now I'm eying TESO; WoW went downhill a long while ago, and I had a hard time getting invested in FFXIV. I dig the setting behind TESO, but I'm hesitant about the community and the whole mega server thing they have going.

I played elona user. It's anti fucking grinding. And anti comfy. It's one hell of a stress game.

you know why you can't enjoy MMOs anymore?

because you got no friends.

I don't know how you think it's not grindy.
But it's only stressful if you try to minmax your shit. If you're fine with suboptimal stuff then it's the comfiest life sim.

Since a friend called me, right now I'm checking out Project Gorgon again, it's been some time.

Fuck you, user. It's a great game that's still worth playing.

I would suggest project 1999 but it looks like you have terminal shit taste. From what you have described about various MMOs, what you really want is a single player game with a combat system that's a dumbed-down version of a single player action game like Devil May Cry, not one where you have to group with people to accomplish anything.

Forgetting someone?

There are PServers now so you can play for free AND without the cancer of modern retail.

Don't get into FFXIV. It does things.

They just launched an expansion not too long ago. As far as being a WoW reskin, it's the same hotbar style of combat but you have quite a bit of customization over your character's looks and abilities.
Frankly, I don't think you even gave the game a look if all you came up with is "lol wow reskin" and thought the game was shut down.
2/10, apply yourself next time.

Evidently it makes you gay

I used to not do any of this shit either. I blame FFXIV for my faggotry

Play Guild Wars. It's exactly what you want - a single player MMO, and the best one ever made. Probably not arriving for your gook ass though.

So I'm sure there are a lot of slutty argonian maids, but how does the rest of the ERP spectrum hold up in TESO?

I didn't have friends when i enjoyed mmos.

Checkmate, amphibian poster.

All we can do is wait and hope for the best MMO to come back to life.

My nigga. That game was a ton of fun for about 60 hours until you finish the main story and are stuck in shitty raids-ville. Definitely one of the more creative MMO attempts but like you said it feels more like a single player or co-op game than an MMO.

But yeah, MMOs are shit don't bother.

That image alone makes me not want to play it.

Not an MMO, but you could play GrindBlue Fantasy.

It's not like there's four different base classes with a dozen subclasses each that can result in all sorts of gameplay changes or anything. The whole point is making multiple characters and trying out all the different ways to play the game.

and each of those ways takes hundreds of hours of monotonous grind with the bland as fuck base classes

Well how about you don't hide those behind grindwalls?

Mate, in a week you could have maxed out a character. It only gets easier as you make more.

Not to mention your pic
What, did you want them to force you to take along classes that are worthless in fighting or something?

...

Yeah you're the same drone advocating skipping and bumrushing as and adequate game design.
ToS is fucking garbage even by mmo standards and your droning doesn't make it look any better.

I can't put my finger on what is exactly wrong with wakfu, but it just doesn't work.

Planetside II is an option. First person shooter, free to play, and with aircraft and vehicles. Holla Forums already has an outfit/clan/guild/group that's not in it's glory days anymore.
If you've ever played a FPS'er (especially Renegade or any of the Battlefield series) you pretty much know what to expect. It's free to play and you buy shit with Certs, and you get 1 cert for every 250xp. A kill (or medic res) nets you about 125, and you get various amounts of xp for doing all sorts of shit-repairing stuff or giving out ammo as engineers, reviving/healing as medics, killing sprees, destroying vehicles, capping points, so on.
Not gonna lie, it's grindy as fuck to unlock lots of stuff but to the game's credit the starter stuff you have unlocked isn't bad, and you get extra certs for your first 10 levelups to help you get started.
The front-line fighter class, Heavy Assault, starts with a maxed combat shield, you 'only' get to upgrade how quickly it recharges for example (and there's a variant that recharges when you get kills) for example. The infiltrator is supposedly a sneaky-sniper class but you can take a cloak that isn't as effective, but buffs up your shields to help you survive if you're in the middle of a fight. Shit like that. Worth a go, but I'd understand if you want to fire it into the sun-like most mmorpgs there's always something stupid in the game to piss you off. Personal favorite is how the Magrider hovertank can-and does-attack from the most ridiculous places.

Since you're from Korea, what's your favorite Korean game(s)?

PSO2 and DCUO.

FIVE FUCKING YEARS
I missed the Planetside 2 shenanigans because of this, too. Fucking shitty American ISPs, man.

Are they both Koreans? They don't Korean enough or grindy.

you've tried and hated everything with a significant enough playerbase to enjoy the mmo aspect, so why even bother with mmos?

thought i was on cow

You're not missing anything. DCUO is pretty shitty. The combat is great on paper, but shit in practice because server lag renders blocking and dodging meaningless. The game constantly throws paywalls at you until you subscribe or quit, open world PvP is dominated by script kiddie hackers who remove their combat animations so they hit you a billion times per second, and the community is full of complete retards and Brazilian uber retards. I dropped it in favor of Phantasy Star Online 2 when it went into open beta and never looked back.

Tera is basically the only mmorpg with good combat in the market but the issue with the game is that the quests are shit, and the other half of combat (what you're combating) is shit although it has it's good moments, like BAMs. And then everything else in the game is shit too from the way trading works to getting 20fps on a high end computer because the game is 50% flash.

If you want to play an MMO, then play Allods Online, it's f2p, full of grinding and pretty much forces you to play in groups of people to survive contested zones after a certain level BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT MMOs ARE FUCKING ABOUT:
PLAYING WITH OTHER PEOPLE!

If you want a single player MMO, then play Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

Can't make this shit up.

Again, MMOs are dead because social media and min-maxers ruined the best part about it. Most modern MMOs are on mobile platforms now anyway and every single MMO dev is switching or has switched to mobile.

Can't make this shit up.

Can't make this shit up.

Amalur wouldn't have been too bad but the FOV fucking killed it for me. It was way too narrow. The combat was nice though, far better than TW3's.

I want BOTH good gameplay AND playing with another people.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2
Quake 3
Unreal2004
RainbowSix has been shilled a lot here, but I don't know if it's actually good. I know Titanfall 2 shills' game is weak though.
supreme commander
gookclick 1 or 2
warcraft 3 mods
Civ whatever-you-like-before-V
Anything that's not dead, really
I don't play racing games, but you can go fast in Warframe until they patch out the fun and make it available in their in-game store
fifa whatever
pes whatever
nba whatever
nfl whatever (blitz?)
Rocket League
kys
TF2 beta
Souls series

What about 3rd person melee-focused action games that isn't souls series?

GunZ?
I know there's a dueling weapon-based f2p "mmo" on steam that LOOKED nice, but I have no idea what it's called or whether or not it's actually good.
Again, Warframe is viable option, if you're willing to grind or grind and learn enough to jew people out of platinum (in-game currency used to buy actually viable shit and not shit cosmetics).
Other than that I really can't come up with anything, I tend to play singleplayer, multiplayer brings out the worst in me. And I pirate most of my shit anyway.

I lived my online life for years on GunZ private servers and their forums. Very cringy days.

don't fucking tempt me to pick it back up

Does it have PvE?

At least post the better gacha simulator.

Dragon's Dogma > Souls

You jest

DD is basically a Souls game except the melee sucks so cheesing magic is your only option.

What the fuck?

I played a min/max'd guts to 200 before switching to sorcerer and regreting my life choices.

Trust me on this, I'm an expert.

...

What did you even do? Assassin is the min/max physical class but Warrior is the only Guts class. And Assassin is plenty good. Warrior is fun but not in every situation.

Mabinogi is the only correct answer. No auto attack bullshit. You can actually block. Enemies actually get knocked back.

I really, really, really want to be interested but its by Nexon and Nexon always makes p2w garbage. Is there a private server instead without the p2w shit?

push afk people off the airship with your mount in archeage

This is so retarded I can only think whoever made this has never played either DD or skyrim, or both.

The only real difference is that you can climb big monsters in DD, which doesn't change anything really.
I bought into Holla Forums's hyping this shit up and the whole "it gets better later" meme.
DD is fucking japanese skyrim through and through.

Holy shit that looks like a lot of fun for an MMO. I never understood why everyone hated DDO.

Mate, there's several FOV fixes and mods for the game in PC since it came out years ago.
