When the current champ calls "new champ", the first poster to claim it is our champ. The first six legal Pokemon suggested once champ has been claimed or "new team" has been called will be the team our champ uses to battle. Suggesters are not to make multiple suggestions for a team unless 15 minutes have passed since their last request, or if the champ specifically asks for re-requests. The champ will be battling in OU unless he specifies otherwise.

I know how you're feeling right now but I want you to know that I am confident that together we can get through this.
Bastiodon is a wall's wall, by which I mean that with attacking stats around base 50 and no team support outside of weather he literally can't do anything else except set up Stealth Rock and then wall. As a wall he has fantastic defenses even with worryingly low HP, and since he can only wall his low speed isn't a huge deficit.
The problem with Bastiodon is that once you've got him out there, what the hell do you do with him? Even his powerful STAB Stone Edge does little more than ding most opponents that aren't weak to it and even with investment will only 2HKO with entry damage those who are, and although it's always worth having Stealth Rock on the field Bastiodon is a slow user of it; even in flying-heavy NU there are better ways to get entry out there. Even as a wall Bastiodon is at best ineffectual and at worst set-up bait. So like all offensively-weak walls, Bastiodon works best as toxic stall … until the opponent switches in someone who can hit him in his crippling 4x weaknesses to ground and fighting, common attacking types even in NU.
This set aims to turn Bastiodon into a wall-breaker, but a defensively-minded one. And to do that he needs maximum survivability. Which is why he carries Dig.

Generally, 252 HP is better for bulk than 252 def / 252 spdef. Then you'd most likely want to put the remaining 252 in one of the defenses, or spread them between them, to maximize its bulk.

HP is always worth more than defenses. You could go 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 SpD if you want lazy mixed bulk. Because you have Calm Mind and Cosmic Power, you're usually going to be boosting SpD instead of defense, so a spread of 252 HP / 252 Def helps patch that spot up for when chimps are confident enough to use Calm Mind. Modest Nature is pointless without any SpA investment. You're better off with something that increases Defense, like Bold.

Defensive mons get more out of defenses than speed because they can't expect to outspeed the actual offensive threats that will be trying to take them down. Sigilyph already sits at a nice speed tier and doesn't need too much investment, and would rather have defense so it can take a hit and stay healthy. Slight investment into speed (40 Spe) gives it just enough speed to beat Adamant/Modest base 70 mons (Bisharp comes to mind), but it's not something we expect to be important very often and we'd rather just have the defense in most cases.

For defensive EVs, just compare base (Sp)Def to HP and allocate points to whichever is lower. It varies from mon to mon. Something like Chansey with sky high HP gets more from straight defensive investment. Something like Shuckle with shit for HP but great defenses gets more from HP. Mixed walls are a bit more complicated since you need to account for how the nature you choose is going to effect the final stats. There's also the question of are you trying to survive hits from specific threats or just get as much bulk as possible while keeping your defenses relatively equal.
For natures, decide based on what you want the mon to do. As said, there's no point in taking a +SpAtk nature if you aren't building for SpAtk. To be effective in any way, your pokemon are going to have to specialize in one way or another. No such thing as a good jack of all trades.

There are only maybe five mons in the game where investing into defenses is better than investing into HP. Telling someone to compare bases is just going to confuse them because unless they're building a Wailord or a Hariyama, HP is going to be more useful.
