Elona is always most fun when you're trying to break it.

Last time I tried this I had the inspiration to kill and infect guards with aliens. Since guards gain levels when they die and aliens spawn based on the level of their host, I ended up with a level 500 guard in my home spawning level 250 aliens. I could control them by spawning fences that neither the guards nor the aliens could move through, but I could shoot through. Unfortunately, I could never get the aliens properly dominated because too high level.

How to gain weight in this game?
I'm 2 meters high yet I weight 20 kilograms.

Also, how to properly give money to "pets" so they can level up properly.
I've got some cash but there's no way to transfer it to them, kitty banks seems aa very shitty way to do it since you have to destroy them in the process.

Evochat's only combat practical purpose is to pass money up to 500 k per pet for up to 2 pets a day.

Having a house near luminest is a pretty good spot, it snows and is near the spell writer.

I personally like to have my in act 3 near the sacred library and ol dran for the jewel god tears every month

Go twohand. Twohand only cares that you're wielding one weapon, no matter how many hands you actually have. This means you have no reason not to twohand.

How does twohand even work? I'm playing a gunner (actually a tourist) so I never messed around with it.
The dog only has one handslot (probably it's mouth, yeah) then shouldn't it be unable to 2hand? If it can, how to activate it?

Also, any gunners out there can tell me if using a shotgun on the hand slot uses full causes shoot damage if it tries to melee? I tried doing it and it doesn't seems like it but maybe it works.

The Two hand skill only checks one thing, are you wielding only one weapon or not?
If you are, you get the bonus, if you wear a shield, more than one weapon, or empty handed you don't get the bonus. This means pets with only one hand are good for two hand builds.

Also, it'll just let you use the gun as a melee weapon, it won't let you shoot it. You can also put a shield in your shoot slot and throw it.

Gotta love this game.

play as golem, get a couple of levels and unless you intentionally goes after something like veda, you are immortal. I rely 100% on my pets, but I still have 800 hp at lv27 and wouldn't die even if I were alone.

There is a main questline but many players don't focus on it.
The game is a life-sim, just take it easy with your party.
The beggining of the game is very hard to go by (I started as a naked human tourist, I know). My advice is to really use your pet since it's stronger than you at the start
And equipment does appear on your character as long as you don't use custom sprites, if your character or a party member is using the PC sprite type(the one with the walking cycle) and is not displaying equipped gear, try using the mirror next to the king's bed in palmia, it enables and disables equipment showing.

Also, anyone knows how to use a custom static sprite on the player? I tried doing it but couldn't, ended up changing every tile of the walkcycle one but it has smaller proportions

How does this play through Wine? I played a few years ago, but I haven't tried it since making the switch to Looonecks.

I've thought about writing up a fantasy world where mana can be found in physical form as atomic sized particles that can interact with matter and can be "coloured" to behave certain ways. Terrible idea for an explanation, why not just say that their spiritual mana is attuned to water, which makes them more comfortable in colder places than warm. Or say that their water mana would escape from their body as it gets warmer and they need the mana to live.
Plus, if they have to get rid of body heat, they'd always keep their hair cut since hair helps retain body heat which could escape from the head.
Contradicts lore where they need to get rid of body heat, it's probably better for them to shave their hair in that case.

About the Fae, i again forgot to write this important detail that was in my mind
They breath and ventilate is through gill-like structures they have on their chests (the face has no nose), having the wings for emergency when they are overheating, they don't overheat from having the hair flow behind them, and most fae braid their hair so it doesn't cover the whole body
Also in combat situations if they are not inside their golems they are inside combat gear (power armor) with internal refrigeration

Problem is, most heat is lost through the head, since that's where the brain is since the brain takes a lot of blood to work.
Of course, since they aren't human they could store their brain elsewhere like their chest.

I got a DS4 and it works as Xinput with DS4windows.
I just turn it on, then re-open the game, then I configure the buttons there.
I have to customize some controls via DS4win, so I can move with the arrow keys and use the analog for diagonal movement only and stuff like that.
If your controller doesn't work just use joytokey, just simulate the controls you see in the controller option in the game as keyboeard commands in joytokey(I'm not sure if it works well with case sensitive controls, but you can try it)

My advice is to stay on .66 as Ano is messing with the potential rates and save system anyways.

I wish someone made a machine translation of every untranslated japanese text in the game… This way we'd get a less accurate, but vastly more complete english translation and wouldn't have to deal with mute NPCs asking us impossible questions again.

Get a program called VritualMIDIsyth, fixes all midis in the history of ever, you then want to get sound fonts for it.

There is only one issue with it and Elona+ in that due to the Midi loop being the way it is, you get a pause when the music finishes it's loop.

So the way to fix this is to extend the midis, presumably.

But trust me, with soundfonts, it's fucking amazing.

As for where ot find them, look for Jojo thread on the 8archive which leads you to the soundfonts you need which I actually hosted but don't have the link right now.

I think you can only use PCC sprite sheets, like , for your character.
There are various sheets available out there.
Drop your pcc sheet in /elona/graphic/PCCs as a bitmap.
Rename it as pcc_body_X.bmp with X being 3 or higher, since the first 2 are the basic ones for character creation.
In game, press c for your character sheet, then press p for portrait. Turn everything to 0, but switch the body option to the custom sprite you want. Remember to go into the details page and turn everything off there as well.

The sprites I posted can be used for pets, enemies and npcs.
Convert the sprites into bitmap.
Go to /elona/user/graphic/ and drop the images there.
You have to rename them as well.
For portraits: faceX.bmp with X being any number higher than 1
For sprites: pic_X with x being any number higher than 1
In game, press I to interact with what you want and then select change shape.
If you want your pet to have an animated sprite like a normal pcc, then instead interact with them and choose appearance instead. Switch the custom option to 1, then do the same as above. Turn everything off to 0 and change the body selection.

I may be wrong on some of this as I haven't played in months. I might've forgotten things. My last game is on version 1.61

Elona custom doesn't remove any content or japanese text, right?

I translates text and adds neat tweaks.
It doesn't remove anything and it's unlikely you'll ever reach the untranslated parts.

Custom is the way to go if you want to play in english.
It just adds optional tweaks accessible from the Esc menu and extra translations.
There's untranslated content a few tiles away from the first town as the recently added adventurer seminar. Talking to any NPC there displays only the text: "Sorry this is an untranslated sentence" but that happens even in normal elona+ if you encounter untranslated content. To show the actual japanese text you have to change from english to japanese in the language settings.
The english translation, vanilla or enhanced by custom, is very underwhelming. There's thousands of flavor text and small descriptions that will probably never be translated, that's why I always wanted an machine translation of all that stuff, not accurate and broken but better than no text at all.

Also is martial arts worth it for a pet? I've been keeping my dog using claws and shit but I got a pretty sweet hammer now.

That's some bad luck.
You don't lose everything when you die(unless you're playing permadeath, in which case, don't). Have your pet with you and keep struggling, the early game is specially tough on new players.

if you are REALLY struggling, 2 tips:

Tip 1:
get two shields, go to vernis, enter the puttit cave. bring about 2-3 into the stairs and let them hit you until you are low life.
repeat until they can't damage you
then bring 4-6, then get all 8 sides with puttits on you.

then remove one piece of armor, repeat

power level that shield/armor/evasion/regeneration/etc skills

you get mana from stats, you just have to get more mana. Immunity to Dim used to make golem the absolute best mage possible, now dim is not that terrifying to mages though
most stuff dies from that magic dart thing anyways, 20 casts is enough to clear most quests, you are going to rest after leveling the dungeons with hawazana(or something) anyways

first, don't feed pets unless it's to actually raise their stats
second, if got dosh, buy bread and pasta
third, if poor, bash trees. Vernis got 3, yowyn got 3?, palmia got 2. farm and hunt quests occasionally have fruit trees.
fourth, kill the cat woman on every party time, eventually kill everyone who is a unique for their meat.

If you gift any NPC an alcoholic drink they can become drunk, while they have this status effect you can whore yourself to them and have them pay you to have sex with them.

Prostitution
The player character being a literal prostitute so they can get their money back from the merchant after making a big purchase.

All crafting tools appear on the general stores.
But its always random so you may need to wait for it to restock a few times to get the tool you want.

Well, DF adventure mode is all about amassing a ton of followers to fight goblins and whatever kings tell you to find, and in Elona you can get up to 15 pets (but you put one in the shop and one on the ranch, so it's more like 13) and if you train properly you'll become a traveling caravan of death. It has a lot of mechanics borrowed from Rouge likes like items being blessed/cursed.
The game does have some qt canon monster girls. Worshipping Opatos, or Lulwy rewards you with a cute and very strong pet (the other god pets have a 50% chance of being male but there is also an item that can fix that). Also, your pets are basically masochists once they build up a few friendship points by killing enemies. At fellow rank, they won't complain if you do things to them and at soul mate you can marry them, plural.

You can do all that shit nigga but it's not easy to get a fairy/monstergirl early game.

You can also replace sound effects of things only your pet does with voices.

The rest of it has pretty much been done as shown by the +10, and I don't know if using another Craft Repair kit would actually help out.

I'd rather use Rubynus for the best hit rate rather than Adamantium (best damage and great weight for two hand).
Repair kits increase to almost maximum amount, but it's not always the maximum, so savescuming/using multiple have a very little increase in effectiveness. I am unsure if artifacts have a higher maximum or not, so using repair kits AFTER making it into an artifact might be worth it.

also, savescumming hammers is a bit hard, as the stats seem to be randomized when it is generated rather than when it's used, something like that

Staying "burdened" is good though since it trains your weight lifting. If you're always at "burdened!" then you have a problem.

Actually, yes. There's a move just for exploding punches. Doesn't work with control magic though, so, keep any potential pets out of its range.

Golem Wizard (bad early game due to combat not earning as much platinum as farming and singing (used to train and learn skills)).
There is a special skill for martial arts that lets you punch with fucking grenades for aoe damage (which kill your pets if you got low control magic).
Then there is a hand to hand skill that also gives you magic damage to punches (that might or might not extend to grenade punches aoe damage) of the element you have the highest resistance to.
There is about 4-5 VERY STRONG buffs that lasts only about 40~ turns, which most people don't use because you either blow the enemy the fuck out, or he blows you the fuck out. Unless you are playing arena, 40 turns of it are not worth having to remember and actually cast those 4-5 every 35 turns or so, especially when something like a step, that might last as short as 1/3 of a second, is a whole damn turn.

Damn, didn't shadow step cost around 5 sp? In the latest version it costs 27.

I recommend going for elemental spells, especially ice or lightning, with Element Scar, which lowers resistance.
There's an item called Elements Eyes which changes the element of the magic damage buff mentioned in to whatever you want.
So if you change it to ice, Element Scar an enemy then water bolt, when you punch the guy the extra magic damage sometimes does much more damage than the punch.
Enemies that are wet take extra damage from ice or lightning, which is what the water bolt is for. Using dirty water bottles work as well.
If you have items that let you attack multiple times, enemes get shredded.
Muscle wizards are absolutely great. The buffs and debuffs work extremely well together allowing you to demolish shit at any distance.

The buffs are very good when autistically grinded though. Currently my Hero and Divine wisdom spells last around 250 turns.
Holy Shield/Feather lasts ~150 and currently doubles my PV/DV.
Speed is probably the most important attribute and the spell gives me like 350 and lasts for ~150 turns as well.

My charisma refuses to level. I'm getting "You enjoy showing off your body." often and never see any messages for losing it, no negative charisma mutations, and restoring attributes at healers does nothing. Yet whenever I check it's somewhere in the 3-6 range while all other attributes are 20+.
Did they make cursed food drop charisma, or is this the price of overdose mode?

Overdose is 20x skill exp, cons are zero score and inability to create a gene.
Didn't see anything about permanent attribute loss, but I wouldn't put it past Ano to sneak that in.

It's never at the point of being unbearable though.

I've only died twice, and I'm a ways off from being able to invest and buy potions of potential. If my charisma keeps bouncing up and down like this the effort put into just repairing its potential would be better spent on a save I can create a gene on.

as a general rule, selling ANYTHING directly to traders is a waste of perfectly good items

Look up breeding power and corpse effects. If you have access to potions of descent feed them to your breeder until they're level one.
Monster balls, scrolls of ally, or astral light pens.

The gems you make with a pot for fusion are worth more than their parts. So hoarding gems can be beneficial in the long run.

Breed something that you want to eat often, something like horses for constitution stat gains or putits for charisma gains.

Go to Yowyn, buy a lame horse, and raise lame horses. Horsemeat is extra healthy, and lame horses breed fairly quickly because they're low-level. (There are better options out there, but buying a horse is easy.)
Remember to get a big brush and brush them. That tells you if the ranch monster has special abilities. If the offspring is better than their parent, add them to your party so you can make them the new breeder.

Blessed greater enchant weapon can reach +8 if I remember correctly, otherwise just +6, and nongreater is +5 blessed and +4 otherwise.
Stardust (which is given like candy if you kill everyone in party time quests) do the same thing, but only to miracle or better equipment. It can reach to +15

Forgot what it did to weapons, but it's not as good as what +2 on every piece of armour you have, that gives you 10+ DV and PV for almost no gold

each +1 gives actually 2/2 rather than 1/1.
If I remember correctly, claws and gloves gives 2/2/2/2 (damage, hit, dv, pv).
enchanting everything to +1 or +2 is a sure-way to get a pretty easy early game.

try to avoid combar unless you're a bit stronger if you,re a melee, or get a friend if you're ranged. A good way to improve your strengh is to work at Yowyn and it also yields you okay cash while doing so. If you want more firends, go buy them in Derphy. Mages are especially useful early due to their high ranged damage.

So then what's the guideline for when I'm ready to delve into Puppy Cave? What should I have learned/equipped before I go dungeoneering?

First try to clear the bandit cave, should be pretty easy. Then try to do some hunting jobs until you got your inventory filled. Once you can clear the slime cave, you can give Puppy cave a shot. Altho Puppy cave is pretty easy and a good place to get easy equipments.

You can do escort quests too for platinum, but not the girlfriend ones.

that shit can rise you about 5-7 skills and toss your potentials to hopeless in less than 3 days, just get a shield, your preferred weight armor, and hold 5 while making sure your life don't drop too low. You can even start with just 1 putit and slowly let more of them surround you.

If you want to use that place as a training grounds, it's probably best to also pick up the god items which train healing and evasion too. It's Lulwy's and the Farming god's I believe.

evasion trains when you evade, so you don't want the boots
healing trains 5+healing level each time health regens, so I don't know if the -1400 healing level would harm or be ignored for exp gain or not

Turns out it actually helps armour and shield skills rather than evasion. But the damage needs to be higher than your healing which you can do if you get the anti-heal item.

This is a heavy risk for a beginner. What they should focus on isn't direct combat outside of random encounters while avoiding these:
And, if you can't hit hard enough in melee or don't have a alternate source of damage you should also avoid Hermit Crabs, although their corpses are very useful in getting WIL boosts.
While this method is time consuming, it's also low risk if you have the dimensional move perk (As you can also escape from bandits with this). It's highly recommended you have the Travelling skill to get passive boosts to your attributes and other skills while doing this method so if you don't have it, do a few easy jobs (Delivery to someone in Yowyn for example) for the platinum necessary.
Bonus: Killing Rabbits can drop their tails, ez luck.

If you followed the instructions well enough, by the time you randomly encounter tougher foes you will be able to mess around with the first floor of the puppy cave without much of a hassle.

I was talking about early game farming of platinum coins by using the gardening quests which also give you bronze coins. It also gives you seeds and money which makes it easier to start farms too.Then you cook the food for even more profit and more stat gains.

Gardening is a meme skill, it's only useful for Harvest Quests, material gathering, late-game herb farming and that one new skill you have to waste a feat on, you are better off starting with a Ranch as you can get much more by selling skins, use corpses to cook (you can use milk too) or offer to altars and get a excess surplus of milk to the point you will never go hungry And can be blessed or cursed for macrofetishism if you're into that.

at 100 gardening (and with the scythe) I deal 700 (to dragons) poison damage on everything on the screen, plus poison and rooting it to the ground. I can use it about 6 times before I get too tired.
It makes literally every hunting quest trivial, even the 40,000+ reward ones.

Of course, I don't know about even 'later' in the game

You forgot artifact seeds and cooking grinding user. It's far faster to have farms to help grind cooking with how many seeds you can get from harvest quests.

I've got a "fire a volley" skill but I couldn't test it yet gunners don't raise their gauge very much if since they don't get hit very much.

Get an asura to swing at you. Lowering your speed helps, if you can.

If you do this watch out for crits, those get checked against your greater evasion and not your normal evasion. A few bad rolls if you aren't paying attention on crits can mean death if you are a little lacking on con/PV/DV (fucking fairies)

Bats practice hit and run too frequently from my memory, try a gang of other things instead.

Obviously don't use a gang of monsters that are more than you can handle.
