I can stomach through the tedious gameplay of valkyria, but I really can't stand tthat half of the units have drawback traits that makes them unplayable. That and being hindered by a comrade because they have a certain characteristic is bullshit, especially if it's a fucking war.

Undertale. I'm a sucker for that 4th wall garbage and integration of gameplay and story, but the story itself has to be good in the first place. I loved NieR despite its uncountable amount of flaws, but that had a good story. References to anime and singing kumaya at the end is not a good story.

Try The Metal Age and Deadly Shadows. TMA is a vast improvement whilst Deadly Shadows is different in a good way/
