I loved beta testing of Next Order with all of it's problems so PS4 version will be much better for sure. Hopefully next one will be handled better. Music alone makes game worth it. As for Cyber Sleuth he isn't wrong. I hated it like I hate most of Atlus shitty rehashed games. They will reuse shitty dungeon designs in the sequel too for fast cash. Digimon World 3 is better than anything they made digimon for along time.

i saw the vita version and its awful how they replaced every structure with more than 8 polygons with an invisible wall with a fence painted on it. kind of like how old PS1 games stairs were just ramps with the stairs painted on them. im not in a hurry to play it.

world 1, Digitize, and Next Order are the "raising sim" branch of diigmon.
world 2, world 3, data squad and dusk/dawn belong in the "JRPG" branch of digimon.
then there's the miscellaneous branch, with games like DIgimon Card Battle and Digimon world 4 which is some sorta action RPG where evolution doesn't matter and digimon run around using guns and shit.
then there's the "fighting" branch, with Rumble Arena 1&2 and All-Star.

the one you're playing belongs to the raising sim branch, which means it should play like world 1 and nowhere near to dusk/dawn turn based battle. and yes, the original Digimon world was hard as fuck. at first it seems easy, feed your digimon, take him to the shitter, and convince crazed digimon to go back to the city and work. the more you progress, the harder it gets, you need your digimon to be evolved because otherwise you'll get ass raped in more advanced areas, but if you spend 100% of your time training like a madman your digimon will get exhausted and live a shorter life, but if you dont train him and take proper care, he won't evolve. so you gotta balance all that shit and then go explore in the remaining hour of life your digimon gets once he gets to a good evolution. its all about juggling training, care, and exploration. mind you im talking about world 1, i have no idea how next order does things since i haven't gotten it yet, and im hoping the mechanics are more forgiving.

The Digimon World DS/Dusk/Dawn games weren't part of the Digimon World branch. They were localized as Digimon World for name recognition but were the first couple Digimon Story games. That's why they play similarly to Cyber Sleuth. It is entirely understandable to make the mistake seeing as Digimon World 1-4, while actually being named Digimon World, played nothing like each other.

I doubt Digimon sexually reproduce. That combined with whatever garbage we put in the Digital World would cause too many problems. It's clear though that Digimon have at least some sort of genitals, if only because of what data they're based on. They probably don't actually work, they're mostly vestigial. Note that what I've said is only true about the most generic version of Digimon lore, Tamers or Xros probably have some fucked up version of the similar.

Well, if we were actually theorycrafting on it. I would wager that as digimon grab more information and increase their file size they accumulate a bunch of trash data that they don't really need. It would make sense, since they mimic biological beings, that two would get togeather and randomize that junk information and combine it into a new proto-digimon.

As such they wouldn't have a particular gender, it would just take X number of digimon (perhaps even down to one with enough data) combining info into a new egg. Probably in a flash of light or something where the new egg comes outta nowhere.

Though I do like the idea that there's just so much porn on the internet that they definitely have sex traits. In fact it's a somewhat interesting concept of a series of creatures with sexual identifiers but no actual gender. You know, I always thought that a really REALLY cool Digimon adaptation could be done by making a world where humans use AI servant programs in a technological world with completely integrated Augmented Reality. With both the humans and digimon only able to affect the other reality indirectly (Like a digimon getting into a televisions CPU and causing it to explode, or a human disconnecting a wifi router currently hosting a hostile mon)

You could even start to really dig deep into some interesting issues. Like questioning when AI becomes sentient, maybe even have a few of the Digimon be obviously non-sentient, some that are questionable, and some that undoubtedly are. Instead of the big bad being some reality warping digital god, the big bad could ultimately be some seemingly crazy homeless guy who decided to live off the grid and sees problems with the current setup.

There was one guy last thread who seemed to know more than me, but yes. That autist is me. To be perfectly honest, if you just watch the anime and keep an eye out for details, you'll catch most of it. Read up on the plots of the Wonderswan games between Seasons 1 and 2. That's the bulk of it. Play the games if you can, but only the first one is in English so good luck.

If you want to get deeper, read the manga, V-Tamer 01 (which actually began before the anime), and start playing more of the games, like Digimon World 1. The rest only have a minimal amount of lore, but it all adds up. Digimon World 1, and Digital Card Battle tie into the anime the most, since Digimon World 1 is actually one of the first adaptations at all, and Digital Card Battle includes characters both from Digimon World and from the Digimon Adventure 02 anime. Plus, these are fucking good games. Worth playing regardless of story. And if you're not into Digimon World 1, try the sequels. They're all entirely different genres, so surely one will hook you.

The other user in the other thread seemed to know a fuckton about individual mons' lore, and a lot of that is from more scattered sources, but you can understand the bulk of things without knowing that stuff.

Actually that's also me. Lore is best when it's just details that seem inconsequential on their own scattered across multiple sources, but if you put them together, you get crazy shit. Lore is best when it's subtle and you have to really think for it. That means the source material works well on its own even without lore. Games these days just shove their story right in your face and plebs eat it up because they're too dumb and lazy to actually pay attention and understand more subtle lore. This is why the Zelda timeline hooks so many autists. But that's babby's first subtle lore.

I get you, for the most part. Kirby's been getting good at that with their bonus bosses and boss descriptions (it's pretty much the only source of story they have). But I'm the guy that thinks there's a Mario Paint canon, so I dunno if I've gone too far.

People act like Mario having deepest lore is just a meme, but there's a surprising amount of stuff there. Like the final game where Mario is a construction worker instead of a plumber is Wrecking Crew, where he fights his boss, Foreman Spike. No wonder he got fired and had to look for a new line of work.

Let me just tell you how deep the lore goes when it comes to Mario Paint. Obviously the first game is in there, but there's also the Mario Artist games for the N64DD side note, the music in those games is as wonderfully weird as Mario Paint's, if not more so, look up the OST it's great. In Mario Artist: Polygon Studio there's a minigame called Sound Bomber, which is literally the first microgame set from Wario Ware, pretty much. Wario Ware also has a very Mario Paint like title in Wario Ware D.I.Y. Now, here's where the connection gets kind of tenuous, but has become stronger over time. Rhythm Heaven is pretty fucking incestuous with it's refferences to it's own games, especially in the latest title The Best +/Megamix, but that's also where Wario Ware got a really strong connection to the series. However, as far back as the first game, it had connections to an MP3 player for the GBA called Play Yan, as they both had the same white guy jumping to the music. Play Yan-kun also showed up on the DSi and 3DS system's Music/Sound app, where parakeets are also an important character. Finally, in Super Mario Maker, the parakeet once again comes back for sound related functions. I'd also say soundfrog looks more like a certain frog from Rhythm Heaven but that might come down to how the Japanese draw cartoon frogs.

I saw that someone accidentally kept their main party in while grinding babies + using Gold/PlatinumSukemon. He killed the final boss in 5 rounds or so (but he used a Digimon with Pierce, which is OP as fuck anyway).

If the next game has the same issues- will it still be fun? Or too easy to steam-roll the game?

So I'm a giant autist and plan on trying to get all the Digimon in Decode when the fan translation comes out. However, I don't want to waste my time, and the last two stages of Digimon seem to match up, so I made a list for one-to-one matches of all of them. Note that pretty much all lower stages have less than both of these, to greater or lesser magnitudes, so you'll have to go through some Digimon redundantly anyway, but I think this is an OK guide. Anyone can feel free to correct me, I might have botched this slightly. Also note that if you get any evolution items easily then this list can be ignored as Re:Digitize has basically no penalty for using them and Decode probably doesn't either. Applimon is literally a repeat of Xros Wars Hunters, except slightly less shit overall (not that that's a high bar to clear), and not tied to previous Digimon stuff (something XWH openly abused during its finale to redeem itself).

Even the 3DS game was apparently "meh", so unless shit gets crazy in the last third of the run, it'll be something you can safely skip.

I haven't seen Xros Wars, but I have no reason to believe you're lying. Thus, most of those appear to be on point.

However, I think you're being a bit unfair to Haru simply for comparisons sake. Haru is pretty boring, but he's actually pretty proactive when it counts. There's been many times where he is the one to charge head-on into things and encourage everyone while Eri and Astora sit with their thumbs up their ass. The only shitty protagonist so far is Yuujin. His inclusion into the bunch reeks of poor planning and/or dropped plot-points.

Regardless, I wouldn't recommend skipping the series entirely. It might not have anything to do with previous Digimon, and it might even recycle previous plot elements, but it's still a pretty good anime for its own sake. Also, Eri is super cute.

I do hope the Xros Fusion mons don't get excluded from the series because of the bad run, though.

I'm really interested in Digimon lore even moreso than Yugioh and it doesn't make sense why Yggdrasil doesn't rarely "patch" things like certain Digimon still incapable of reaching the Mega (Ultimate) level altogether without completely altering their data into something else or Digimon even when safely controlled by a Tamer they care about still being living hazards to everything around them just by using certain attacks.

Also, if Dukemon is to Megidramon what Alphamon is to Dorugoramon-a more heroic symbolic evolution as opposed to a more bestial one-, why wouldn't Chaos Dukemon being a safely "contained" Megidramon (Digital Hazard won't fuck shit up) clearly equal to Dukemon by aesthetic and ability contrast be capable of reaching similar power?

Yggdrasil has been found to be a massive asshat as a whole and justifies progress via the growth of the digital world as a whole, not individual digimon, so certain digimon are not important to him (that's what Homeostasis is for and her influence is restricted to rare few digimon, one at a time in a world of billions).

Hell, Yggdrasil made the X virus to genocide 99% of all digimon and when he only succeeded in destroying 98%, he blew a lid and told his royal knights to kill off the digimon who evolved an immunity to the virus.

It goes like this,when Megidramon showed up, Yggdrasil just flipped a code and changed it to Dukemon, his loyal slave, which is what he would do if it was a danger to the digital world.

Greymon and Garurumon mean… nothing in the pantheon of Digimon and only the combination of Omegamon is of any value at all to Yggdrasil, and that's because he's incredibly ignorant and strong at the same time, so he's a useful slave with simple drives. I like to think that he's the same Mugendramon from Digimon World. The lore says that Mugendramon doesn't have a mind of his own, but was programmed for evil by a human. In Digimon World, we see exactly this happen, and Digimon World happens before Adventure anyway (see: Digital Card Battle). It all works out pretty well.
