It's alright, the level design is fairly engaging and the mechanics themselves are quite solid as well. But it gets incredibly unbalanced later on, even on the higher difficulties, because you can actually craft Neuromods (this game's equivalent of cyber modules) by the shitload through recycling alien organs into purple cubes and refabricating that into upgrades. Weapon upgrades can be mass fabricated as well, and it's unfortunate for yet another Arkane game to become painfully easy. When you're still starting the game upgrades and items are sparse, but then you mostly encounter mimics which are easily dealt with. After some point the enemies start getting more serious, but sooner or later you'll crack the DRM (yes, really) on making as much Neuromods as you want which gives you more upgrade potential than you reasonably should have.

The exploration is quite nice and the game itself is pretty big, but the atmosphere is just not there and the story is eh, even more so if you get tremendously upset about having to follow a lesbo romance subplot in order to progress through the main story, I bet that was Chris Avellone's doing. The upgrade progression unfortunately follows suit after DX:HR where you choose when you want your upgrades instead of what. You'll inevitably get most of the shit anyways, especially if you're a completionist like me.

I don't think it's shit at all, but I do like what the game does even if I feel it could use a massive rebalance and amp up enemy amounts.

Aim Down Sights. Been a staple in games ever since Operation Flashpoint, Medal of Honor and Call of Duty. It's good when it's in a fitting game, bad when put into unfitting games. This sums up pretty much every denuvo game, theres a reason why these shitty devs decide to put it in their games.

It can slow the game down on purpose, which can be a good design choice depending on game.
It can balance out different weapons (I right now am playing PlanetSide 2, in there, using 3.4x scopes gives you less vision compared to 1 or 2x but obviously more zoom)
Realism is important for many games like Arma, Red Orchestra and Insurgency.
Just zooming in instantly, tightening your crosshair and moving slower by holding down M2 looks stupid.

Dodging 1000 meters a second bullets in an apartment complex or office building makes no sense. Realism is important because it can slow down the game and not make it shitty in the process. If in Insurgency ADS was removed, it would be Counter Strike with crawling and lower TTK, it doesn't work. It needs ADS because hipfire is only good for panic shooting point blank and in CQC ADS takes too much time. In a map called embassy, my go to plan for rolling out to the high combat area is to smoke, sprint to cover, crawl further to avoid gunfire, get to my position, lean, aim, wait for smoke to clear and start shooting.
If you hate hitscan and ADS so much go play Quake and Tribes you nigger.

I think Baldman "cracks" are just bypasses using emulators but I'm not too sure. CPY are actual cracks though.

Really, the only instances of good collision on big west games I can think of are popular cinematic garbage. Anything 3D that even leans into the action genre seems to suffer from terrible collision detection. And again, yes, you can go out of bounds in most games, the problem is how much effort it takes.

This seems to be the case for the characters. I've never played the game but I've seen videos and lonely streamers. It's such a bizarre art style and is one the main factors why it failed.

I don't believe the majority agreed because they abandoned it so quickly. Maybe it does have good gameplay elements but to me it looked like an extremely busy and confused mess, so I never saw any evidence of that. With a different presentation could it have been recognised as fun by more people?

NuPrey isn't as good as everyone is saying, but SS2 and OG Prey are admittedly worse. SS2 had shit combat and worse skills and OG Prey was too restricted and puzzle focused.

SS2 is one of my favorite games of all time especially because the combat was so shit. It made a fucking bug compared to the shits that would destroy you at the start of the game.

I played nuPrey and for the first half of the game, it's basically System Shock 3, then it goes down the Bioshock route depending on your upgrades because you can end up with shit tons of resources.
Still a great game but nah SS2 still the better game.

I'm digging nuPrey, but unfortunately like with most Arkane games you have to gimp and restrict yourself if you want a real challenge, but thankfully it doesn't work like in Dishonored where the harder playstyle is also the least fun, and in Prey the story outcome is largely independent of your playstyle

Yeah, the level design and mechanics are fucked, but the AI, graphics, animations, and combat itself are great. I expected a Painkiller clone with mindless repetitive pawns, but damn, the imps and other human sized enemies actually bothered to flank, dodge, jump, and run away from me. They felt alive like those dark jedis in Jedi Knight games in a way.

But you're not wrong. Great AI, animations, and combat wasted on poorly designed game.

I don't know, I love that kind of progression. It's like in Fallout NV where you started with a Varmint rifle but near the end of the game you're a Deathclaw slayer.

This, holy shit. The game throws so many resources at you if you actually try to explore which lets you craft medkits, psi hypos, weapon upgrades, ammo, and neuromods by the fucking dozen, as most enemies can be dispatched with minimal risk if you know what you are fucking doing.

Yet somehow the majority of people are actually going on how difficult the game is because unlike most vidya it doesn't hold your fucking hand. The fact that Cystoid Nests can be easily dealt with using a single fucking nerf dart somehow went so far above people's heads. The Nerf crossbow is one of the most valuable weapons in the game despite how deceptively useless it seems at first, you only need to use your fucking head. The whole game is like that, it asks you that you use your given tools, and even then it's not that fucking hard. Jesus fucking Christ, I sure hope I don't have to see this level of retardation here on Holla Forums once people are finished downloading and unpacking the repack of the game out of curiousity.

Imp-fucking-lying.

There's a whole amount of trickery involved in the pathing of enemies in nuDoom to make them seem more active then they really are, but functionally they're wasted potential if you think about it. Out of range Imps will run around at complete random while throwing fireballs at you, and even then their movement isn't nearly as aggressive as it should be in close-range, I've often found myself Imps running past me without even attacking me, perhaps in an overblown effort to flank me. The AI of all the other enemies isn't even anything to write home about. Revenants are just doing whatever with no thought behind their actions, Cacodemons and Mancubi are too slow to respond accordingly to different situations, and Hell Knights/Barons behave rather straightforward.

It's wasted potential, primarily because the enemies can't utilize the environment to the same extent you can. They can somewhat behave like you, but they only appear to be smarter because they have a larger assortment of actions, not because they can use them effectively or work as a group.

Only two of them do, and then only to Prey to begin with. The shotgun in Prey doesn't have infinite range whereas the SS2 shotgun is useful on longer ranges since it usually fires slugs, and there are grenades in Prey which turn enemies and all objects around it into crafting materials.

No it doesn't, it only does at the beginning when it artificially limits your maximum ammo capacity to a laughable degree which you have to upgrade first. After that you'll always find an ammo crate that refills all your ammo inbetween fights, and if you do happen to run out of ammo in the middle of a fight (which only happens during longer encounters and if you really just stick to one weapon in particular), you can just insta-kill an enemy with a chainsaw to refill half of the ammo of whatever weapon you are carrying, and charges for the chainsaw are plentiful if you aren't fucking blind.

That's just debatable, it's not even that scary nor does it really seem go out of its way to scare you.
