I always loved the sort of action combat of Grandia and was curious if there were any other games out there that had interesting, deep, and dynamic combat like these games.
I always thought Grandia II had a great story coupled with this interesting combat style.
Meanwhile Grandia Xtreme had a horrible story but the combat was even more complex and interesting. That was the only real reason to play.

Shadow Hearts: From the New World has the most refined combat in the series. Tone is rather different though, but it was meant as a side game anyhow, while the Shadow Hearts III Nautilus had wanted to make never came to fruition as Aruze dissolved the team.

Nah i played 3 before extreme and found xtreme to be the better one in combat. If only Xtreme had random dungeons or was some sort of rogue lite with that combat. It could have been a 10/10 game

did you play the post game? it's one long random dungeon and the normal dungeons all get their levels boosted
PSX or Saturn version? What's the deal with the combat system? I think I saw a video of it once.
Few things in rpgs are as memorable as climbing the wall at the end of the world in Grandia. I won't ever forget that part.

Whatever you do, stay away from that jewbisoft game. The rhyming dialogue is what drove the Supreme Gentleman to bloodshed.
Plus Shadow Hearts did it better.
Also in the vein of pressing buttons when attacking is also Xenogears and Legend of Legaia
