You first, nigger.

The game I had most fun for it was The Warriors.

Been playing through .hack//G.U. since beating the first subseries. Been enjoying the technical improvements, and I'm not sure if it's just the lighting/stylization used, but the way the graphics are done looks really good. Glad I didn't have to pay anywhere near average price for them though.

ps2 is shit :^)

PS2 is probably my personal favourite console, even though its the worst hardware wise between the Gamecube, Xbox and PS2, it had the best library of games and was the one I grew up with, so it holds a lot of nostalgia for me, and the games are still great. Probably the last home console to have great JRPGs too.
That said it was the beginning of the trend to move towards overly cinematic games, and introducing online capabilities to consoles was a mistake too.

PS2 and SNES are the consoles with the best libraries. NGC had better hardware but their library was limited to maybe 30 games that were good. PS2 had an endless pile of good games and an even bigger pile of crap games.

Honestly rather sad looking at the amount of JRPGs on both the PS1 and PS2 (I don't mean combined, but individually), and then look at the PS3's offerings. Lot of classic series that either weren't continued, or went to handhelds and either didn't return or died off there. And that's not to get into the issue of online stores and DLC becoming of such prevalence with seventh gen systems. Kind of sad when you're playing a game before then and can readily pick out shit that likely might have been cut and sold on the side, if the system in question allowed for it/had it been on a later system with an inbuilt store.

Who digs giant robots?

...

What's the best emulator for PS2 games? PCSX2 apparently has problems with AMD graphics cards.

PCSX2

Buy a PS2

chicks dig giant robots

I have a R9 290 and most games ive tried ran fine with PCSX2. Id figure its hit and miss. Just give it a shot.

Ive tried Katamari, FF X, Godhand and Dark cloud which all ran mostly without issues.

it's an old console you trumpfard.

Is there a more hipster meme console than the Geneshit?

why are super nintendo fans so sensitive? we get it, you like really low quality pcm sound and slow games

Normalfags tend to be overly sensitive fuckwits.

Any of you know a reliable USB 3.5" IDE harddrive enclosure with drivers that actually work on Win7?

I've been meaning to stick a giant harddrive full of PS2 games in my phat but ever harddrive enclosure/adapter I've gotten has been some chinesium piece of shit that didn't work.

a friend told me he bough on Aliexpress a chinese Sata adapter for his Phat, he said it worked and was able to install a 1TB drive.

Try looking into that

I mean one to hook up to your PC to actually format and install the stuff. I have 2 or 3 official Sony LAN Adapters.

I could just format the drive and install over network probably through the PS2 but it's one of my old media drives with like 500gb of movies and TV shows I want to recover first.

It's actually pornno it's not it's Dragon Ball Z and tons of 80's movies

Dumbass, it has more to do with your CPU. Very few emulators actually use much of your GPU.

Unless he is in software mode, the glitches will still come from his GPU handling of DirectX / GL

For example CEMU tends to show glitches on AMD cards that Nvidia cards never show, but Nvidia have other problems that don't happen in AMD, like the bug that causes it to eat 20 GB of RAM

What's the appeal for this game? It's a cool concept and has nice mechanisms, but it gets old extremely fast, and the writing is unbearable
Also you can't get in the robot from what I've seen, I stopped 4 missions in

oh hey i was going to start one when i got some money to mod my phat, But since its here i have a questions.
I have a shitty sony smart tv and decided to play some DDR, and I'm noticing a bit of lag between between my 2 mats. Like i have to press the buttons slightly earlier.
Now one of them has always been kind of iffy and would occasionally get "stuck" holding a button. it was essentially a "bro here's your controller" mat, and gives me good = perfect. The other one was great and never gave me any trouble, and the only lag it gives now is tiny so great = perfect
So is this a "I'm using an hdtv" problem or a "my mat has reached the end of its lifespan" problem? and is there a way to fix either?

Also I tried pic related a few days ago. It's pretty fun and an exellent game if you want some cuhrazy action. Downside is that it's pretty repetitive and very short, but I still had a good time with it. You can earn weapons and equipement if you beat the highscore, which you can upgrade by playing enough with it. By the end you get to play new characters as well, and have a survival mode as a bonus

I tried to do the exploit in this video to put Free McBoot on a memory card with MGS3. It would give me the red screen of "Please insert valid PS2 disk" or whatever.

Do I need a DVD+R? I'm trying it with Maxell DVD-R. Or maybe I should just locate a copy of the 007 game since that's the "standard" method.

...

I…. don't recall which is required, but yes, it will only accept either +R or -R but it's been ages since I burned a disc for the thing. I would say try the other.

Why don't you save yourself the trouble of handling dvds and use a usb stick instead?

3 most overrated ps2 games:

Ico
Kingdom Hearts
Okami

I used dvd-R for my burned disks and it works fine. See if there are any other guides out on the web.

my understanding is that once I get freemcboot on a memory card, I can do whatever method of loading games I want (HDD, DVD, USB). until then I can't do any.

And I also hear PS2 only has USB 1.0 which would be very, very slow for loading games, no?

I've read a bunch of guides, and it seems like DVD-R will work fine once I get the mod loaded, but until then, DVD+R might work better for spoofing the disk when doing the disc-swap trick.

Just wanted to see if this were possible with the stuff that I have on-hand without buying anything. I'll check a few shops to see if they have DVD+R for cheap.

Try Verbatim, those worked for me flawlessly until I went for a Network Adapter. But either way, don't use DVD-RW's, these will fuck up your drive laser.

Maybe one day it'll finally accept HDD's that aren't official Sony's.

Ah, it's been ages since I've done any disc related stuff with a PS2. I have one of the original release PS2->PS3 memory card adapters I made my McBoot with so I never had to deal with swapping anything.

And yes, USB is horrendously, amazingly, cripplingly slow. Slightly faster than that is network loading, then discs are quite fast, and finally harddrive is the fastest if you can get a network adapter and 3.5" IDE drive for it.

Speaking of network adapters, isn't it possible to install a SATA drive with an additional adapter? I've heard that they might have issues with some games, but I haven't seen any proofs of it.

I've ran AC4 and 5, Shinobi/Kunoichi, Silent Hill 2/3, Red Dead Revolver, Onimusha, Kingdom Hearts, and Drakan the Ancient's Gates all perfectly well on PCSX2 with an R9 270x.

Don't worry about it, most games are playable. Of course, you could also just buy a PS2 and soft mod it, then buy a shit ton of discs and just burn your ISOs.

I don't see why not, 's search brings up a bunch of aftermarket SATA drive adapters as well.

I haven't looked into them though since I don't have a handful of SATA drives lying around unused, but I do have tons of unused IDE drives.

I've heard the only issues come from what companies sata drive is used, but it is possble

heres a link to one that fits inside the network adapter

ps2 is the first thing i killed by filling it with my cum

I hope SH3 starts to pick up, the mall and subway were more annoying than any other parts in SH 1 and 2. Its spookier than the other games, I'll say that much.

PS2 is overrated. Most of the library is shovelware or games that have aged poorly. Dreamcast, Xbox, even Gamecube was better.

Can someone help me with my free mcboot?
i haven't touched my ps2 in over 5 years and i have a very hold version of it that required a very specific way to boot games:
You had to patch the game before writing it on the cd, then boot the console with the lid open, navigate through console files and close the lid after selecting a file.
Would it be that much worse to change method and use a hdd? or at least an easier way to use cd?

most of the pc library is only shovelware too, that should do nothing to discredit the good games that are there. every console only has a couple dozen good games for it.

The misinformation campaign surrounding AMD is fucking incredible.

Aw shit, that's great fucking game. It's a shame I never finished it. Maybe someday.

As of now, I think PCSX2 is the main one for better or worse. Think I heard of some other up and coming one though, but I'm not sure what it was called. Really though, the bulk of the PS2 library is pretty cheap, and barring that, you can get a fat model set up to run games off an HDD via loaders, letting you pirate away (and bypass region lock).

Free McBoot will indeed let you use loaders ran off the memory card; within the loader itself you can tell it which storage type to try to find your PS2 games to play. And yeah, USB 1.0 is shit for actually playing games through compared to systems with more advanced USB ports. Works fine for installing files to a FMcBed memory card though, as those have to be small (official memory cards only being 8 MBs of storage).

As for Free McBoot itself, to my knowledge some people will sell memory cards with it preinstalled online, or you can send your card (and pay for shipping both ways) and have someone put it on there for you. Or, if you've got an IDE set up for the PS2 already but don't have Free McBoot yet, if you have uLaunchELF already on the drive you can install Free McBoot by loading the installer program off a USB. The biggest issue with Free McBoot is simply getting it on a card; either you have a workaround like the IDE/uLaunchELF thing, or know/can contact someone who already has it installed to install it on your card.

What do I need to run PS1 stuff on a PS2 slim? Every time I try to run something it doesn't recognize the disk or the screen stays in black.
It crashes every time I wanna run anything

nah, PS2 has something like 300 or so good games. There's a bit of a decreasing return, but the best 5th gen consoles had something like 100-250 great games on them worth playing (n64 excluded), 4th had a good 100-200, third had 150-250, 6th (excluding PS2) had 60-100, 7th maybe 50-75, and current gen is nearing that 30 game threshold.

You mean the physical backwards compatibility isn't working?

Yes.

Post your ps2 games anons

Bump

how time flys :')

JUST

Anyone had luck adjusting the laser pots of a slim PS2?

I've only got a fat ps2. Its got a cool RE4 decal though.

Out of curiosity, what model of Slim do you have and what games have you tried? And does it still work with actual PS2 games?

shit pleb console that had like 5 good games

You don't deserve those double dubs

I thought the slim PS2 didnt have backwards compatibility?

Alternatively there's this sony made psx emulator for the psp that got leaked and made to work on the ps2 aswell. Google POPSTARTER

All PS2 models have physical PS1 backwards compatibility, barring some games that have issues. Same with the PS3 and PS1 games played on it. It's the PS3's past the early models that lost backwards compatibility with PS2 games.

What are some good non-RPG games for PS2. I've got Dynasty Warriors 5, Hitman Bloodmoney, a wrestling game, Silent Hill 2.

Samurai warriors 2 empires
Onimusha series
God of war
Metal Gear

Are these games any good? Every time I've tried an empires game it just ends up being pretty much the same musou gameplay with less stuff going on in the battles and a worse story.

I have a copy of Siren 2 but an American PS2. How do I get around the region locking without a mod chip or hard drive?

Slim models use software emulation.
