The less specialists there are the lower budgets can be, etc..

Since the thread theme is autism, someone explain to me why anyone updated from 1.4.7 on minecraft.
The only features that can be deemed useful are a block update detector that emits a redstone signal, and a "shulker box" that is just an upgraded chest that keeps contents when broken, which I'm sure at least 7 other mods have done the exact same thing.

When breaking a stone block that will spawn a silverfish, the silverfish summons nearby silverfish from stone when it gets hurt, silverfish will also infest any stone block nearby and spread like herpes instead of just despawning. The endermite is just a recolored silverfish with a fatter body that likes to piss off endermen.

That was the ropes+ mod, which added grappling hooks, hookshot, ziplines, and one of my personal favorites, the torch arrow that either placed a torch or set mods on fire. There were other arrows that were less useful.

Torch arrow was god tier. Only fault that they were to cheap to make for how useful they were.

Hard-coded crafting recipes are a joke honestly, there is literally no reason why mods shouldn't create a recipe config file on first init.
Also let it be known, that the original video for this was nearly 7 minutes long, and trimming the fat made it only 46 seconds long without losing any footage of features, unless you count watching a sand block being pushed in a circle an amazing demonstration.

It's not that mods did it first, it's that mods always do it better. Look at the fucking pistons video, the mod piston could propel objects with gravity like sand/gravel and living entities like the player, well enough that you could effectively make a fast transport system with them, and being able to orient them just by right clicking on the side you want it to face. What can vanilla pistons do? Push sand/gravel the same as any other block, and push entities 1 block space, and the sticky variant that pulls blocks, and can only be oriented by breaking them and placing them back down. An overall downgrade.

Gliders, mods did it first, sure, but again it's a step backward since they have durability and end up needing to be repaired, and the fact that they're most needed in the obstacle needed to obtain them. The shulkers defeat the challenge for anyone with feather falling boots and damage resistance though.
Now I looked at the speedboost mechanic since it does sound like a good idea, and saw that firework stars will deal 7 damage to the player when used, but otherwise it's a solid mechanic. Given the choice of the vanilla glider over a glider from a mod, I'd still pick the mod.
The point being, when Mojang adds content that a mod already did, it's always a downgrade, so why bother updating if there's already mods that do it better and on versions that aren't so horribly sluggish? I feel like it's a lose-lose situation, lose the mod you liked until(if) it updates and lose performance at the same time.

To be fair, we do place it on a bit of everything these days. Kids what used to just be a bit awkward are now mentally damaged and if you don't treat them like they can do no wrong you're a monster.
