I have not watched the anime, and I have not gone on youtube to see what the gameplay is like. If I have to go into detail as to why I find myself drawn to these threads, I would say that what attracts me the most is its sheer repetitiveness. From halfchan to fullchan, from /a/ to Holla Forums to /vg/, you will find the same people roughly posting about the same things, and on occasion, a curious lurker may post and ask where to begin. Compared to the rest of the board and other eternal generals, Nepgen has somehow managed to avoid the fate of turning into a community blogging general, and continue to simply post the girls they know and love, without end, without fail, without exhaustion, for a length that I can only imagine that will not end even after the death of death itself. What I find even more intriguing is that there is no Atelier or Senran equivalent to Nepgen, but that is a topic I would like to save for a later date. My regular lurking may seem pointless, but the question is: Why would someone who doesn't care about such a thread lurk here every day? I mean, I have lurked here for roughly 2000 days for over sixteen hours each day. But to answer that, we need to talk about parallel universes.

Nepgen is strangely immune to all the attacks other threads suffer from. No matter what happens, it will always stay on track and post cute girls no matter what. Because of this trait, I have come to the conclusion that the thread itself is small crack to another dimension in which only Neps matter, and the posters in this thread do not exist in my specific universe, but from another universe in which they advertise their goddesses as a means to acquire more power and influence. This is the only way to explain the thread's continued existence in this cesspool of a board. A franchise, or a thread of it to be more specific, regardless of its popularity, cannot exist for such a long period of time wihtout being shitposted to death, or disappearing for an X amount of time, especially so on a board like this. It simply isn't possible. Nepgen, however, regardless of its popularity and the lack of anything to discuss, continues to exist for seemingly no reason at all. Rather, it exists solely to exist. An existence that isn't affected by its surroundings. A thread, in amidst all the chaos, continues to stay peaceful. And as such, I have come to think of it as a thread within a parallel universe in which such chaos and misery does not exist. A universe in which reality no longer registers and only neps matter.

Nepgen is a hyperdimensional being's way of communicating that a better world is, in fact, possible. That something so mediocre can exist in a peaceful eternity without having to face any conflict. And thus, I eventually found myself lurking here every day, awaiting for the blessing of the goddesses, and to eventually go on a long spiritual journey to spread the gospel that is nepgen.

I can't say that I've heard that kind of perspective before. I guess I'm happy to see that somehow the threads can draw in not just primaries and secondaries, but somehow tertiaries, which I didn't even know could be a thing up until now.

I think the real reason is that unlike most franchises despite borrowing some mythology or another franchise, they are contained in their own lore & at some point have an ending to them, Neptunia is like The Simpsons where the source material is based off of the real life setting but in a more cartoony manner (Or in this case, anime.)
If someone wanted to make a Neptunia game where it was set in the Atari 2600 era, they could do that. If they wanted to make a Neptunia game where the makers had their own screen time (Falcom for instance, goes on a boating adventure), they can also do that.
Neptunia is as about as hands-off as you can get.

As the one who began making the thread again and again and again and again until some time ago, I can confirm regrettably that no, I do not come from a dimension where only neps matter. I am too from this shitty Earth, and am just a supporter of the series, wanting to contribute with my own stone and to discuss it with other people. Which is why I recreated the threads at the beginning.

For the immunity that this thread seem to had to all the attacks around (and trust me, we had several ones), I can see several reasons even though, alone, they probably didn't work. But thanks to a strange mixture of us being very welcoming of anyone and willing to discuss with anyone, a calm most of us wanted to preserve, some heavy work on the games themselves (between the retranslations, the drama CD translations and the edits with game material), some mockery of shitposters and some higher-ups' visits, we went through it, and we're slowly approaching our third birthday in this state of calm and tranquillity.

Of course, we aren't here 24/7. There are moments where one baker isn't there when the previous thread ends. Life is still there and still has its toll on us. But we, too, are waiting for the blessing of the goddesses and the spreading of the nep gospel, and in the time we're waiting, we're just enjoying the nice breeze and supporting them the best way we can.

It's the most divisive game in the series for a reason. Theres also a reason they ignore it completely in the sequel.

The whole alternate dimension thing really rubbed me the wrong way if that's what you're referring to. I was in a quest when suddenly I'm unable to finish whatever it was I didn't do before I was blobbed into another space.

The second game had a plot, but people were upset that it was too serious. So the third game doesn't have a plot. Until they rush it all in the last 80% of the game where they create a prpblem, rising action, climax, and conclusion all in the last three or four hours of the game. Also none of the characters act the way they do in any other of the neptunia games.

Ganeplaywise, yes. Writing wise, no.

Instead of giving you a meme response like the others, mk2 battle system is like the prototype battle system of V. Its not as polished but still leagues better than OG. Storywise, its probably the best of the first three games. Humor wise, its not as funny as OG since the protagonist isnt as silly as Neptune. Its still funnier than V though, but I felt V just tried giving ebery character one joke that they reuse the whole game which was annoying.
Play MK2 now then VII. Thats what the chronological progression anyway. Well technically it goes Mk2 to V to VII, but they ignore all of V in VII except for two references that arent important to the game or story at all.
As far as the dub goes, no idea why but they dont spend much time with voice acting. I know some people have emailed IFI about it so they may start voicing more in the next mainline game.

The original had a fucking slow battle mechanics and dungeons are a drag, but the plot is quite strong nep wise, great characterization, interesting world map. Victory might have a more polished and fluid mechanics, but it was a mess otherwise (although still fun)

Yeah, I deserve the bullying. When I started Victory, I actually enjoyed Nep eng dub, and the same goes for the seven sages (good surprise to see BB Ragna voicing Copypaste). Should have moved to jp once the dub completely disappeared from the game… at least the dub quality is not trash-tier like the Atelier games

After beating it now, I must say that I actually enjoyed the whole experience. I've been playing the game late at night after a long day of work, so it managed to get me into a kind of trance/pain relief state. Even repeating the crappy quests for shares was paid off with some Blanc awesomeness
