STALKER GENERAL #2: ANOMALY BOOGALOO

Seeing how the last thread was a success, in spite of its slow start, we might see the birth of our very own stalker general.

In the next post will be our current mod pasta. Feel free to make new suggestions and give your thoughts. i'll try my best to gather such things and save them for posterity.

Modding advice from some kind user.

user who posted that there, I've got one addition to make and I saved the formatting. I could add another 5-6 mods for each game but I stuck to ones I'd actually recommend instead of giving a full overview.

For a second playthrough:
Shadow of Chernobyl mods
1: AMK 1.4 or AMK Autumn for a /k/ommando that wants to replay SoC. There's a tweak pack for AMK Autumn in the repos that makes it even more /k/ommandoish.
2: Autumn Aurora 2 if you want more polish and a little less hardcore than AMK note: AMK Autumn combines AA2 and AMK.
3: Lurk if you want gunporn to the point of annoyance and more consistent stealth mechanics, 1.1 vs 1.05 is skub but 1.05 is less bloated in my opinion though I never had a problem stealthing in vanilla SoC.
4: Priobi Story if you want SoC with a new story and some other new shit but it's a little dated by modern Stalker mod standards. I think there might be a re-release to deal with its age, check moddb, /sg/ or hope another user ITT will know.
5: Lost Alpha or Oblivion Lost for cut content and crazy shit, less polished than even vanilla though.
6: Doom's Mod Merge for freeplay but Call of Chernobyl does it better nowadays.

Clear Sky mods
1: The Faction War for a sort of freeplay constant war without the story, warfare for CoC is similar but harder to understand.
2: OGSM for cut content, mostly. Plays similarly to vanilla from what I remember but I haven't touched CS in years.
3: Arsenal Overhaul + Sky Reclamation Project (see the repo), adds a bunch more guns and bugfixes but does make the economy a bit easier.

Call of Pripyat mods
1: Call of Chernobyl sticks all three games' maps together and lets you start as any faction. I'd suggest adding the following mods to it for a /k/ommando experience: STCoP (and the tweak I'll link) + DoctorX's questlines + Outfit Overhaul + Chernobyl Relay Chat if it ever gets fixed. Do not worry, it's actually really easy to install everything I just listed. You can add more to these as you want later. Press Z on the new game screen to start as a Zombie if you want.
2: Swartz Mod for vanilla + more guns and the game bitching at you for Radiation.
3: Misery + an unfucker mod + some config file editing to make it bearable if you want an artificially hardcore experience, personally I don't like it and I think Call of Misery (Misery in Call of Chernobyl) does everything better though I'm still not a fan.
4: Redux 1.0 for a slightly harder vanilla-esque experience. Wormwood/Redux 2.0 is on hold but if it's ever finished it'll probably be CoP's AMK. Old versions of Misery are similar. Early Misery and Redux 1.0 are both a bit dated since they predate proper mod tools. I can't remember if Redux comes with Atmosfear 3 but if not install it too.
5: Massive Simulation Overhaul is an older mod that I think improves the AI though I'll admit I don't play much non-CoC CoP and my memory is hazy. You'll also want Atmosfear 3 for improved graphics since MSO doesn't come with it (most of the other mods here do).
6: Sigerous (SGM) adds a bunch more content to the vanilla storyline including maps from the previous two games. Quality of the new content varies heavily.
7: Valley of Whispers is apparently ok if you just want a little bit more content, I haven't tried it yet personally.
8: Shoker or Aresnal Overhaul 3.1 to only add new guns to vanilla CoP. Shoker will need you to download Atmosfear 3, AO3.1 comes with it.

The tweak I mentioned for STCoP (all credit to the user that made it): mega.nz/#!FENTRajQ!cGzv8PPVzJ9M2gnHS-ajIdQYHMTunm1LC8MszDL3iQw

Finally here's a pastebin link for the formatting of that post I just did if anyone else wants to add to it: pastebin.com/kvi19sUu

How do you keep CoC fresh?

I'm playing with the recommended mods + Smurth's HUD mod to hide everything except the hunger and bleeding indicators. It doesn't feel like there's any real progression or challenge to it. As soon as I get an AK in decent condition I'm set. I never have to buy ammo, food, or medkits because I loot more than enough to keep me going. All I have to buy is a nice set of armor.

Nothing scares me in CoC. Dogs, bandits, pseudogiants and exosuit-clad Monolith all go down to magdumps of super abundant 5.45.

I'd kind of like to feel like a depressed Russian hunting for artifacts to buy his next meal, with nothing to his name but a rusty AK, a hoodie and a gasmask, instead of having stashes overflowing with food and ammo sitting next to every major trader.>>12441698>>12441778

Ironman, mostly, and if that fails set yourself a challenge. Something like 'only surplus guns from before 1970' or 'only handguns and shotguns', perhaps, or you could go with a no-trading allowed run (either just not selling things and rely on quest income or also not buying things with the exception of armour and upgrades).
DoctorX's questlines helps also.

Oh and it's not included in the mod list but I'd tweak your carry weight down to about 30kg from 50kg.

So , does what artifacts you wear affect how the game behaves towards you?
plus later when i wore the Soul artifact it just seemed to me that bleeding effect stayed longer than it did before even though it's not in the artifact's description as a side effect and for some reason even bandits seemed OP because i either got the more armored variation of them with the better guns more often or even the the weaker ones seemed to become crack shots all of the sudden

It's Priboi Story, right?

Holy crap user. That is great. Thank you kindly. I'll put it in the next OP.

Also, anyone can recommend what picture to use for the next OP. I'm still contemplating on whether to use this one again for the next one or not.

Not as far as I'm aware but perhaps that's the case.

Ironmeme, of course. No matter how geared you are, you're always one mistake from losing everything. I think that's as close to the authentic zone experience as you can get. Like mentioned, create goals and restrictions for each playthrough.

Equipped artifacts don't alter NPC spawns in any way. As for you bleeding more, bleeding is based off of how much damage you took. Assuming this is soc, the -10% impact/rupture/bullet resistance from soul would indeed make you take larger hits and thus bleed slightly more, all things equal. Ideally you use the regen artifacts out of combat, like slower, free medkits, and then unequip them when you've got full HP and replace them with defense/stamina artifacts.

Seriously though, where can a stalker score a Vintar in CoC? Also are many of the important characters not giving me conversation options because I have bot triggered the story? Do I have to talk to a specific NPC to initiate it? Also can I still do Dr X quests in Iron Man mode?

moonlight in com is gay. what gives best stamina recover?

It was love at first sight. Even if that's not the best one, that's the shotgun I will be having.

Such is life in the Zone.

Don't call it a general you raging fucking homosexual, did you learn nothing at all from the slow death of halfchan?

Song name?

...

We never called it a general, but I can't remember a time within the last year when there wasn't a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. thread in the catalog.

I could be wrong here but I don't think the Duty important character assigns you missions in CoC. Last I played the Duty merchant assigned duty quests, and if you're wondering yes, that was with Dr X questlines

Playing CoC with OWR, so far I;ve been liking working for clear sky as a loner since they pay well and one of the rewards I got from the bartender was a gasmask it helped with some expenses. I'm now patiently awaiting my psi-helmet in Yantar while I just do some odd and ends jobs. Though getting to Agroprom was fun

I'm starting to love Ironman runs

Is there any kind of mod for CoC that makes it so I don't constantly get stuck on NPC followers/they don't get stuck in doors/block doors? Literally just making them have no collision with any movable object would probably fix the issue.

As it is I managed to get myself soft-locked into some of the Ecologist bunkers just by activating one of their escort scientist quests (scientist spawns outside and gets stuck on the outer airlock door, door can't fully close so the airlock can't cycle, and now I can't get out of the bunker). I've also just found NPC followers in general to be so annoying blocking paths and such that I would prefer to go completely alone.

just remember to tell them to stay still. You can acutally do that right or is yours different?

I don't think that helps when they are already in a bad position, it just makes them stay there. Plus changing orders constantly is a pain in the ass. If I want NPCs to come with me obviously I don't want them standing still.

Just go grab a trainer or something that allows no clipping

i thought u culd giv them orders with the numpad but I havent actually bothered to test this because i dont keep them around much.

acutally sometimes i use them to carry shit for me then lure over to military base who promplty slaughter them for me (military is friendly to me since i am ecoligist but shoots my followers for me so i dont start a war with their faction) then i can regain all the shit they were carrying for me.

I don't even have a numpad.

Anyway I'm only asking because I wanted to try playing around with a squad, not because I'm stuck in any particular situation (that ecologist bunker was an example). That means constantly keeping several NPCs around. It's enough hassle to keep them following, equipped and allive, if I have to actively keep them from blocking me into alleys and shit or run a cheat every time I'm not going to bother.

And my run ends not long after

Wut? Is this nigga calling his mommy or something?

Sometimes even the hardest of stalkers needs a little emotional support from home, why are you so surprised?

y hav i never seen this

It's probably the hand radio

Such is life in the Zone.

I swear, not being able to tell some of the factions apart is my biggest problem. Usually I err on the side of caution and end up losing my element of surprise when they turn out to be hostile.

What if I don't give a shit about the original experience™'? I never played stalker, but it's been on my backlog for ages. Now I'm bored and I think I'll play SoC. The thing is that I don't want to have the experience the developers intended, but the best possible experience. So I'm fine with new textures, models (so long they don't change the atmosphere), bug-fixes, stability improvements, balancing tweaks and generally mods that add stuff without altering what's already there too much.
For example, in Fallout 3 I added a mod that added more interiors and one that added more NPC trade routes. It didn't affect the game's story line, but it gave me more stuff to see while I roamed the wasteland.

Downloading the starter pack from pic related right now.
Does anyone have any particular mod recommendations that fall under that category?

Get AA2

The animations on that thing are pretty exaggerated, but cool.

Suddenly the Zone smiles upon me. I'm sure the blessing and good fortune remains for the duration of my trip through the Red Forest proper. I'm absolutely sure.

Thanks, but I ran into a little problem.
>Speak Polish so I get some things, but don't understand most of it
Should I just restore the English VOs or keep the Russian ones? How much of the story do I lose, if I miss out on the voices outside of dialogues?

… and cutscenes, if there are any besides the opening one, obviously.

To switch the voices back you do this in the mod's directory.
It's from the moddb faq.

I know how to do it. The question is whether I should.
How many cutscenes does this game have?
If I barely understand what the characters say/shout outside of dialogues, do I miss out on the story?

There's barely any cutscenes, but if you want to understand the endings you may want it in a language you understand since they're purely voiced with no text.

Fair enough. I think I'll just rewatch my ending on YouTube after the fact then. There's something incredibly relaxing about walking through a wasteland and hearing [muffled shouting Russian in the distance].

True that.

Is there something wrong with the aim on SOC or i just suck?

Most guns in the zone aren't very accurate. Any really accurate guns you find will be pretty late in the game, and you'll find very little ammo for them.
