literally the only decent character in the game. The party members are trash. You have whiny bitch, girl who cant cook, generic tomboy #10188, slut idol, shitty mascot, insecure reverse trap, and insecure guy. None of the them are interesting, likable or well written. None of them really grow outside of their social links and any growth in limited purely to those links. The pacing of the game is garbage as well, granted p3 had pacing issues too but at least the plot went somewhere before the very end of the game.

Definitely agree with the optional DLC idea but unfortunately I don't see Atlus doing it. I'd love to play P4G without Marie being shoved down my throat though.

Yeah The Golden anime is trash. The game is okay, since Marie is basically contained within her own vignettes and she doesn't impose herself onto the other plot points like in the anime.

Dunno. She's kinda annoying but honestly she's pretty easy to ignore. P4G is the only version of P4 I've played and I didn't even see Marie's dungeon because I just ignored her. Don't think the game is balanced around you accessing it because I had no problem finishing it.

Golden is definitely the version you want to play. If you don't want to bother with Marie then she only shows up briefly a few times and then eventually she just goes away.

The only thing is you miss out on a month's worth of content in that case and the epilogue too.

This is also what made me like Yusuke pretty much. He is basically the constantly depressed and probably homosexual artist who always struggles with reaching the high goals he set for himself. On top of that he grew up without parents and the only parent figure he had was a scumbag. His emotional coldness makes actually sense.

His social skills are not that bad. He has a general aura of coldness but he can lead a normal conversation with anyone. He is also quick to get into convos with the PT and he befriended them pretty quick. Even when it was about painting anne naked he did not have the typical autistic spergout that would be expected. Then he also has a unique fashion style. While the stereotypic autist wants to look unobstrusive like the main character, Yusuke wears a violet shirt and fucking leather pants.

The problem with him is his depressive mood, that makes him appear dull while he is in fact very emotional and sensitive. One of the few ways for him to express his emotions is painting. I never got past rank 7 in his social link and I hope he got over his creative lag.

Ryuji was intended to be your bro and I like his upbeat nature very much but over the whole journey he is a liability. He can't keep his mouth shut and gets into confrontations with all the adults. I wish they would have defused his hothead attitude a little.

Ryuji Internet Defense Force here. He's definitely prone to being a fuck up, but he genuinely cares for Joker and that makes me like him more. Kind of like how Yosuke barely blinked when Saki died, but when Nanako died, he wanted blood. Ryuji is pretty much Yosuke 2.0, while I'm at it. In a good way.

If they were smart, they'd merge Persona and Devil Summoner into one large series (they're both part of the same timeline, after all), keep Persona the same as it is doing the high school life sim, and have people "graduate" to Devil Summoner, which features the same setting, but follows the adult casts (so Dojima, Maya if she wasn't dead due to Adachi killing her in 4, Katsuya, etc etc. Maybe integrate the fighting came canon too) with more classic style gameplay. Hell, there are so many fucking cops/criminal justice folk (Kats+Tats, Baofu, Dojima, Sae) among Persona alums that you could make a game based around that alone.

Daily reminder that the majority of complaints people make about Persona 4 and 5, also affect 3. It is not the best Persona game.

If it wasn't for the fact that it was not only most people's first persona, but it also had a catchy battle theme and two final boss themes plus the MC dying at the end to become a door then it would have been discarded as a mediocre JRPG.

Persona 5 is objectively superior to Persona 3 in every single way except for the battle theme and last two boss fight themes. And even then it has DLC so you can have 3's battle theme play.

I like Sojiro but he is such in incredible downgrade. Dojima practically made P4 for me. That scene of him chasing the culprit, the whole story of him getting used to never catching his wife's killer and not secretly blaming his daughter - he is THE best adult character in the whole series this side of Katsuya.

If you maxed out a social link and talked to them on the last day, you'll be given an item that allows certain abilities to be carried over in NG+ once you've unlocked their social link (such as massages right at the start of kawakami's social link)
It's good to get all the social links and requests done if you didn't manage to do it first time around as you're given more than enough time to do all that and mess around for a bit

Your compendium and gear carries over too so you can summon strong personas and use strong weapons from the get go

Oh that. Yeah, that's the main reason I can't bring myself to play a third consecutive run.
There isn't much radically different about the game even if you were to play a NG+, max out double the amount of social links as before and date someone else other than one or two short scenes changing and a little bit of extra dialogue.

It was a bit of a sour note when my Makoto date playthrough felt almost identical to my Futaba date playthrough in most of the near end social scenes. Hell the underlying social link for friendship and romance is almost identical except for a few lines added in and a different location.

P4G had a lot of events like this which were "anime", but the whole bit with Mishima being annoying (he really wasn't) and them pretending not to know what Mishima is talking about with the Phantom Thieves despite you being WELL into his S.Link and doing requests through him at this point, I don't know. It's just an out of place mess.

I liked the Rise concert more in P4G in comparison. It was out of place but fun. The cast barely interacts much with each other in a lot of events, on a personal level that is, not on a "dialogue to progress the plot" level.

Then we'd have a huge revelation where Akechi had already set it up that Haru's fiance (even if you changed his heart) would get a mental shutdown out of vengeance to make Shido suffer even if he failed his plan, and in the final confrontation Akechi or Shido would reveal Futaba's father and it would be a big moment and really drive home how twisted Shido is.

But NOPE! Turns out not a single one of these things connected together, Akechi failed because pancakes, Shido somehow (despite knowing next to nothing about the metaverse) had a literal mental projection of Akechi wandering around his brain-space as a hitman waiting for Akechi to infiltrate his mind even though he admits to not really knowing (only suspecting) that Akechi was gonna try this on him. Also there's the stupid palace-collapsing pill. Why? How? No one cares or explains.

Everything after Futaba's terrible dungeon is a hot mess, and the end-game is beyond stupid. The only good thing was the origin and motivation of the "mastermind", which everyone saw coming miles away because Atlus JP lost its ability to be subtle sometime after P4 and just gives EVERYTHING away at every turn of P5's story.

Persona 5 is the worst Persona game simply because its narrative is so self-defeating and riddles with unnecessary holes.
It's the most fun to play…apart from the railroading and bedtime warden cat.

Sojiro having next to nothing to do with the plot and not actually at least being engaged or romantically involved with Wataba also completely destroys the potential of his character. It's like they wanted to do another Dojima but didn't want to just copy-paste so they took away everything good and flipped it around.

I thought Futaba's dungeon was one of the highlights because something actually happens inside and they tell you a story for once, it's a huge missed opportunity not to show the backstories of the people you're trying to change their heart while in their dungeon. Your fanfiction plot sounds awful, everyone and their cat is connected to Shido, fuckin' great writing right there, make him the holy grail too while at it. I don't know how the pill works, but the game tells you the pill kills you for a moment making the palace disappear. Killing someone destroys their cognitive world, very simple concept.

That's well and good, but Futaba's dungeon is the mark of the downhill ski-slope to garbage until the final dungeon (which felt like an homage to Nocturne almost, but for newcomers). The entire thing consisted of get orb, place orb, repeat until nauseous.
I'd rather have the randomly generated walk-fests of P3 and P4 than deal with dungeons deliberately wasting my time (which is very fininte, mind you; I will die one day and when I am dying I'd like not to think that I wasted hours of my life trudging through a time-wasting dungeon). Even the protagonist has a run-in with him before the game starts.

Meanwhile, the web of connections I had suspected (not made a fanfic about, you fanboy) never came into place, and yet we'd actually get answers to such things as: Why was Wakaba a single mother? Who is the bigshot politician father of Haru's fiance? Considering these two things are major gaps in character stories (Wakaba was not a slut character and Futaba is not that old, so how did such an introverted and/or poorly social woman as Wakaba turn up pregnant? Meanwhile, Haru's fiance's politician father is the only reason her dad is pushing for the marriage, and if he's connected to Shido anyway then why is he going so hard for a marriage to bring him higher among the elites?) it would have connected everything more neatly and would have shown some forethought on Akechi's part, that he would have murdered Shido's son just in case he failed his mission to make Shido suffer (which was in the actual game, that was his mission, his sole motivation).

Not my point. My point is that they know almost NOTHING about the metaverse so how in the blaze do they even know how to destroy a palace? Because Wakaba's research? But I thought she hardly got very far with it in comparison to the theives and Akechi. She never experienced it for herself, after all. Only Akechi knew the inner workings of the metaverse on their end. They never experienced it themselves, remember? Or did that slip your mind when coming up with any defense you can for the failed final third of this trainwreck?

Is it just me, or do a lot of the Confidants in this game take forever to rank up? I've been stuck at 4 for Ryuji and 3 for Sojiro for 2 in-game weeks now.

i feel like there are certain main-story events that let you level up their relationships further, except that they don't limit you from further wasting timeslots.

for example, and this is just theoretical, Sojiro's social link cutscenes include scenes with Futaba in it, but if you haven't yet managed to get futaba out of her room (through the main story) then it wouldn't make sense that she appears outside with you and sojiro.

Sojiro early levels probably take the longest, plus you can't level him up past a certain rank (not sure if it's 3) before you reach a certain point in the main plot. As for Ryuji, it really shouldn't take that long, I can only imagine you picked all the worst answers and didn't carry a matching persona.

I've been carrying a Chariot the entire time, and answering as best I could guess he wants to hear, I havent really been paying attention to how many notes I get per response. He also hasnt wanted to hang out most days.

Have you finished Kamoshida's palace? After a certain point his confidant's story starts relying on the fact that Kamoshida is no longer around. If you did then I have no idea what could be wrong, I don't think I ever had to hang out with him more than once between rank ups.

he needs to play the main story more

if you have to hang out with someone more than 2 times without getting a rank up, you either:
-haven't played far enough in the story
or
-some of the answers in your previous rank up were not the best ones, you might have gotten 3 notes instead of 2, or you didn't bring a persona of the right arcana at the time.

Sojiro stops you until you rescue futaba and turn her back into a semi-normalfag. you can hang out with these people 10 times and their links will never go up unless you're beyond the specific part of the story that locks them out of progressing as persons.

you still get points for those meetings so it isnt a complete waste to hang out with them even if its impossible to raise their links
