how does this game compares to Overwatch in terms of fun?

either pre-order it at gamestop or on amazon or show up early on release day to a bigger chain store like Target or Walmart. when I got my Switch, the local gamestop I went to had only six for retail, but when I went to Target, they said they had dozens.

I was planning to get I Am Setsuna to hold me over until Ultra Street Fighter 2 and Arms come out, especially since Square added the Temporal Arena. I already have Arms and Splatoon pre-ordered with my copy of Shadows of Valentia. It's funny though that I ended up mostly playing Blaster Master Zero and King of Fighters on my Switch. Though the Puyo Puyo Tetris Demo ate up quite a bit of my time, and now that Bomberman's been patched up, I suppose I should get started on moving up the league since I can't just play Splatoon all day.

I also hope that Square's nice enough to localize that Seiken Densetsu Collection they're going to be releasing for the Switch.

I think the Salmonids fit well with the theme of the splatooniverse, which is basically one big environmentalist message. The Salmonids are obviously mutants as a result of toxic waste (possibly left by the humans) whose eggs are basically like little rods of plutonium.

I don't know man, how does Bomb Rush Blush compare to Tide Goes Out in aggregate not just two videos in particular that prove a point of view you want.

That's not to say that I have any love for the octarians, they should be purged from our lands as well, but it's better that they stay in their lands and we stay in ours.

I think the reason people prefer Bomb Rush is because in Japan, it's very much in the usual style of J-Idoru bubblegum pop that draws from genres like Eurobeat and Latin American disco and shit, which is definitely more popular among the idol enthusiasts than the American style R&B that typifies Marie's performance. Marie's song would definitely appeal more to Americans, but I think most of the American Splatoon players are generally younger and so are probably more attracted to Callie's song because of its more upbeat character.

But it doesn't really matter what we like, cause we're humans and since we made the squids through our choices choose Marie, I think Nintendo thought it made sense that the Inklings preferred Marie's personality as well as her music or at least preferred her general body of work to Callie's one-hit single. This happens a lot in the music industry. The artists that last as respected and influential musicians are usually those whom even if they don't always give a 5/5 performance each time nonetheless have a more consistent level of musical quality, a likable public character as well as have a greater variety in their music. Even if Callie's single went platinum and Marie's only went gold, if Marie loved making music so much and was good enough at it that she consistently put out gold-tier single after gold-tier single, most squids would definitely come to rely on her, because they could always count on her to give consistently good or above average quality. If there was only a 2/5 chance that Callie's next single would be as good as Bomb Rush or no guarantee that all the songs on her album are going to be anything more than average compared to Bomb Rush, most Inkling consumers would choose Marie.

I'm this close to blaming Nintendo of America for this shit. They took so many creative liberties with the sisters' dialogue it had to have affected the popularity of each character. Really not surprising that Callie was less popular worldwide when she was portrayed as a retard and Marie as an edgy snarker for half the userbase. It would be interesting to see the popularity statistics in Japan alone, where as I understand it they were portrayed far more neutrally.

It's only useful when a video has a lot of views and mostly dislikes, so you can tell people are watching to hate on it. The vast majority of people don't have a Youtube account or don't bother to vote, the views tell the better story.

I can't find NoJ's NicoNico account, if you want to hunt the official NicoNico uploads down. The uploads I found had only 6k views for Callie and 5k views for Marie, so I don't think they are the official ones.

maybe? i don't know. I've sometimes hung out around 4/ink/ too but I've never played with them when they have meetups either. I've tried to get some of the people I've met through miiverse to play with me but it never really works out because the interface on the wii u when it comes to hopping back and forth between games and miiverse is kinda shitty. And sometimes I might just not have the drive to keep trying to find someone to squad with. I'll be playing and thinking "maybe I should see if those friends online want to play" but then I just end up playing rank mode by myself for 6 hours. And even when I do message them, they never really get back to me. I have a friend i hang out with a lot that I gave a free copy of Splatoon, but I've never actually asked him to squad with me, mostly cause he's more of a normalfag than me and so doesn't autistically devote himself to playing games like me. I mean I'm the kind of person who doesn't have a problem pouring 16 hours straight into a single game. I mean, the other day, I skipped class just to plug 16 hours into fucking Odin Sphere. My friend doesn't understand that, so he's not really somebody I have much intent to squad with.

Which mode gives you troubles? I don't like tower control but rainmaker is excellent. There is no better feeling than fucking up and racking up an embarrassing K:D ratio, then seizing the opportunity to make the perfect push that wins the game for your team.

tower control is my worst game mode. im only really comfortable in that mode on blackbelly skatepark. im never carrying in rainmaker but i have an idea what i should be doing and how to hinder the enemy. it feels a little more traditional.

I was there when the floodgates were open for American players and I was there when there was but an inkling of ourselves before the Rising Sun's might. If you think that everyone in that mumble isn't the same way you're squiddin' yourself, kiddo.

That all being said, everyone usually plays on Friday and there's usually enough room for a full match if you decide to show up. It's actually fun and comfy with everyone there. Stop by sometime, everyone will probably be glad to see a new face that wants to have Super Squid Fun

The feeling I got was that Nintendo never really believed in online console gaming until recently and under Iwata, it sorta resisted the trend. Splatoon was probably the first Nintendo developed game on a home console where online multiplayer was such a central aspect of the experience. With the Switch, it seems like more games are going to emphasize online multiplayer than is normal for a Nintendo console, with even I Am Setsuna receiving an exclusive online multiplayer mode.

I agree its lame for them to start charging but I'm not mad. I work in tech and deal with servers/hosting all the time, that shit ain't cheap.

Everyone (rightfully) gives shit to a company that ships peer-to-peer networking, but the alternative of dedicated hosting is not fucking cheap. Hell, my company has 10 employees and our hosting bills hit 20k/month in April.

It's not a moral issue, it's one of economics. Nintendo has to do it for it to be feasible business proposition. At least they had the courtesy to not price gouge us with massive monthly subscription fees like Sony/Microsoft.

Honestly if you can't afford $20/year then you have some serious financial issues and should be focusing on work instead of escapism and entertainment.

I agree that dedicated hosting would be prohibitively expensive, but the cost of a small handful of matchmaking servers necessary for a P2P game like Splatoon is pennies compared to what the game makes from sales. You think they were losing money with free online from the DS to the Wii U? You think their hand was forced? They probably make more on Splatoon and MK8 sales per day even now, even on a marketing failure like the Wii U, than that colo space costs for a year.
The only reasons they started charging for online were 1) because they can and 2) because they need to justify their "strategic investment" in DeNA. Only time will tell if this means free money for them, or if it will negatively affect purchasing habits and lose them money in the long run.
For instance, a big part of Nintendo's business is getting parents to buy their children the new handheld for Christmas/birthdays. Getting your kid a Switch and a copy of Mario Kart or Splatoon with free online is a no brainer, but if you have to pay for a subscription, many will say fuck it, you're just getting Zelda. And if they have multiple kids, then fuck that, I'm not paying a subscription for every one of you little shits, we'll just buy one Switch and share it. Nintendo is leaving unfathomable amounts of money on the table if the Switch is never able to crack the "one device per kid" marketing strategy that all of their previous portables had.

You're not wrong, I'll most likely get a Switch and choke on Nintendo's cock if Splatoon 2 is good, but by golly it still rubs me the wrong way to have to pay for a service that is objectively worse than what I was previously getting for free/subsidized by the games I was buying.

There aren't enough squid doujins period. My theory is that doujinshi is character driven, you need recognizable characters both to sell to character fans, and to take the burden off of writing and character design. Making a Splatoon doujin practically requires you to make your own characters and use more imagination in creating a scenario. It's more work, riskier, and probably sells less copies, so everyone but the really dedicated fans sticks to the safe bets like seasonal anime doujins. Maybe the ones that are really into Splatoon enough to leave money on the table drawing Splatoon doujins also happen to be sick fucks.

Nintendo's jewishness aside I hope Splatoon 2 becomes significantly more popular than the original if only so that it will motivate artists to give me more porn.

You do know that most of the snarky remarks from Marie are unique to the American release, right? It's a license that Treehouse took with her character. The JP and EU releases didn't really have Marie acting like that as much. In Japan, she's just the kuudere straight man to Callie's genki personality whose sentences trail off with "~~~" cause she's always sleepy. She still makes the occasional sarcastic remark, but if you compare the three dialogues, Treehouse's translation is filled with more memes and more exaggeration.

But this turn of events can still work in the context of the Treehouse's translation since you can always see most of the more intense moments Marie's smugness as merely part of the character she's expected to play on TV in juxtaposition to Callie's character, a character which breaks when unexpected things happen like actually winning a Splatfest she actually didn't expect to win and when she thanks Callie for being her best friend.

Funfact: The devs actually prefer Callie out of the two.
