What's really bizarre is that you have Delta Green, which is a tabletop RPG based around Lovecraft where you play a rogue conspiracy consisting of federal agents and the military fighting the supernatural. In the 90s they were completely clandestine, being actively hunted by Majestic 12, their official counterpart (which was unaware of most supernatural entities besides the "greys"), but skip to the 2010s and suddenly they made nice with alien collaborators, get officially reinstated and work for the US government yet again.
