Hardware failure and returns

I get that blatant console war shit is cancer but can the mods chill out on deleting the switch bitching threads as we are having actual discussion about hardware failure rates and recall policies in them.
It's getting to the point I'm wondering if you are on the payroll

On the off chance this thread lives more than 2 minutes lets discuss hardware failure and returns policies and share our experiences.

I got an EVGA 1070 with missing thermal pads, I asked the retailer for a refund but they wanted me to provide an email from EVGA saying it was defective as they couldn't reproduce my crash on their test stand. Long story short eventually they admitted they had fucked up but took so long in doing so I used my store credit to get another manufacturers 1070.

There are parts in my computer that are over twenty years old. The newest part in the system is about 6 years old. I don't get you kids and your newfangled bullshit. Why would you want to play SJW Fest: Current Year, now with more forced diversity, anyway? Old hardware is fine for playing games up until they stopped being good.

Post specs, old man

The reason for my upgrade was I wanted a larger monitor and figured I might as well get 1440p @ 144hz while I was at it.
Also it's nice being able to have a long draw distance in DCS or ARMA and maintaining 144fps on Project Cars is silky smooth.
Come on user, if you are an agedfag you should know that not everything is shit

Mods are banning since they see the fact there's a cyclical as good enough for both pro and con posts to be shoved in there.

Cyclical should be bumplocked and allow us to make threads on it, as otherwise things get glossed over.

The best tech support was returning it and switching it for a 1050. Wouldnt you know, its worked perfectly ever since. Fuck AMD. Fuck them in the deepest part of their throats.

How long have you had that for, and what brand? I got an XFX one about 2 weeks ago, you're making me scared user.

As for hardware failure, the 360 sucked, it goes without saying, but the worst experiences I've had were the Wii U and the 3DS. I got a used Wii U in 2015 from fucking EB Games which naturally was a mistake, but shit would crash within minutes. I had to send it into Nintendo to fix it, and a near launch model 3DS was even worse. When I closed the console it eventually resulted in this annoying smudge staying on it that just would not leave, and a few years later it refused to accept the charger at all. Its honestly not worth it to buy new hardware anymore.

Conversely to Mark's claim the board will get choked out if we don't have generals the board isn't fast enough that we really needed a cyclical

It has to be the motherboard. The only thing I can think of is that the emplacement screw on my case's backplate poking through one of the motherboard's mounting holes is causing electrical interference or a short. I just know I'm gonna get told to fuck off by tech support for coil whine when everything else works just fine.

...

After further inspection, I was a year off. The used video card I got on ebay is 4-5 years old, not 6. Eh.

If it wasn't a pain in the dick shoveling screenshots from my 486 via floppy disk, and if I wasn't already fucking myself out of sleep, I'd fire up my Win 3 machine. I gave up on it because the motherboard fucking hates all of my ethernet cards, and even then, Windows 3 and DOS NIC drivers are a motherbitch to get ahold of these days. Images from a long-dead 386 that experienced motherboard failure a decade ago.

How well is that and the software supported on 7?

Depends.
The cyclical was hitting 50 posts in 30 minutes at some points when I left it open in a tab, then other times it'd get 2 posts in an hour.

Works fine. Formats disks and reads them without issue. The only pain in the goddamn ass is the motherboard only supports one floppy drive type with its floppy connector. I have a USB 3.5" used for that screenshot, because if I want to use my internal 3.5", I have to shut down, move the cable, boot up, change the floppy drive type in BIOS, then I'm good to go. I was surprised that Win7 had an icon for it, but a lot of crazy-ass business computers need that shit. They still make new boards with ISA slots for ANCIENT cards for interfacing with old milling equipment and such. They cost a metric fuckton, and are probably produced in the hundreds, at most.

Images of my 486, from the ebay auction for it.

At least it works.

Well, it was one of the last motherboards to have a floppy connector, and use classic BIOS. It couldn't not work, as far as the hardware goes. Reminds me of the time when I had to boot into DOS 6.22 to install Windows XP on a laptop with no external boot drive capabilities, and no optical drive. Had to format the hard drive via a USB adapter, as a DOS boot disk, and install DOS on it, then run EMM386 just to get it to recognize the RAM, so the XP installer could even run. Hi-larious.

Never had that problem, yet.
Probably won't have that problem.

...

I use to work on concrete plants where they load concrete trucks, most still have 5.25" floppy drives as the computers that control the mixture ratios are stupidly expensive ($20k+) so the plants run them until they die.
When they have a blackout the slowest part of restarting the plant is the computer booting

I went through two LED monitors due to extremely shitty response times, to the point where any sort of video game with any sort of action would be a huge blurred smear. I forget what brand they were now but they weren't generic store brand tier trash. I think the whole lot were probably defective. I said fuck it finally and just bought one at a store. Actually I'd say it was more technically three monitors as I returned one, they said they fixed it and it still did the exact same shit when I got it back. I really need to make note of who the seller was so I don't make that fuck up again.

do me all a favor and buy AMD OR other brands shit if it exists so nvidia doesn't monopolize everything. I don't care if the hardware is worse. that is all

While no one wants anyone to have a monopoly if they keep fucking up so hard they can't compete they shouldn't be propped up by customers charity.
They should die and be replaced by another manufacturer as others see a gap in the market.
Thankfully it looks like they will actually be competitive again with the Ryzen. assuming they don't fuck it up

you sound miserable

x86 rights don't work that way.

DELETE THIS MARK

DELETE EVERYTHING

Indeed

I was curious so I read up, if AMD go under or get brought out they have the right to sell their x86 and x64 rights.

wow this thread reminds me of 1984

wat

nice projection, goon.

I've got a first gen i5 and a 5-year-old AMD card, really don't need much more than that even for shitty modern games.

guys look
i am the jaded cynic
everything is sjws

aaaaa

Correction they're Cuck sjw reddit Holla Forums ctr antifa goon shill kikes

The only people with ""failing"" switches are troglodytes who manhandle their shit like cavemen, shills for Sony, and sonyggers. I'm not even fucking memeing, that's all it is. Get fucked I hope you get banned, these threads are disinformation dogshit.

Fixed that for ya.

Perfect, fukkin saved

like a clock. you couldn't be more predictable.

...

Something I would like to see is a Z270 motherboard with an ISA slot. Would be pretty hilarious, considering Gigabyte makes an model with parallel and serial port headers.

Is that you, Druaga?

As for OP, last time I had trouble:
>Abit K7TA mobo
It was 8 years old by that point, and overclocked the entire time.

I never saw a computer on fire. Do they do that?

Actually, I'm going to have to return an MSI motherboard I just bought for Ryzen because it doesn't boot. No beeps like something is wrong either. I replaced everything in it except the motherboard and CPU but I'm fairly certain the CPU wouldn't be DoA while the mobo could be with the way everyone else is talking about the new AM4 boards. Going to get either the overly expensive branded ASRock if it's in stock or get a Gigabyte B350 of some kind, as Gigabyte is having the least issues with Ryzen so far.

I've mainly seen electronics fry, not catch fire.

If you're using Nvidia, sure.

You chill out first on spamming threads faggot

"spamming threads" when the only Switch thread allowed is a dead cyclical of shitposting and occasional actual Switch discussion

more or less.

Don't let me scare you or anything, but I have the XFX one as well. It browns or greens out the screen when I try to clock it past defaults. I have a 750 watt power supply so the issue has to be with the card. Reading AMD's forums, I see that others are having the exact same issues. Don't buy Radeon RX series. Go Nvidia, their shit actually works.

so which parts are actually 20 years old, faggot?
The Motherboard and the floppy drive? Whoopty doo, I can build a shitty pc out of parts I found at the junkyard right now that would rival yours

But amd works fine.
The worst I've had with and amd card is an odd cursor in windows and overclocking on a per game basis not sticking. Seems all overblown to me, maybe people don't understand they should stick to stable drivers and leave beta drivers alone. Amd should mark them better too actually.

So then leave it at the defaults? Jesus Christ, why are you so mad that a card works at what it's rated for? I get it if you compared power consumption or specific performance but because you can't have a stable system outside of manufacturer's spec is retarded.

Holy shit guys, AMDrones are actually this delusional.

BEAT THIS!
Gaffa tape is to block up the holes because I don't have any blanking panels

Haven't seen one of those in a minute.

I literally, literally, took it out of a bin

Epic buzzwords, friend

Have you tried your cpu cooler?

There's no excuse for being retarded.

The mods, and most anons are so new they don't even have idea why and they just instantly get triggered as soon as the company they're drones for gets called the shit it is.
It's like when a retarded nurse won't let someone go to their girlfriend's room in the hospital because "only family is allowed"

Now hold up user.
Imagine your games from when video games were good, now imagine how much better they would be if you could run them at [email protected]/* */ with perfect frame timings, and supersampling out of the wazoo? I get your point, but hardware upgrades still make sense even if you only play good games. I actually have 2 monitors, one like i described earlier and a 4k one because some games have issues with frame rate, gta 3 being one of them.

My CX500 is shitting itself trying to run my RX 480 and OC'd 6-core. I'm replacing it with 650 watts tomorrow. It shut down twice on me already.

he probably meant the book by George Orwell

I'm assuming you got an AMD FX series?
Yeah, no shit. You're looking at 300W for the GPU alone, and 140w~ for the cpu at stock clocks (i'm using the amd fx-6320 as a baseline, could be around 100-110w for the 6320e and 160w~ for the 6350). And then you have chipset, fans, hard drive and so on.
Your midrange corsair is working at full load where it's least efficient and delivers the lowest quality power.
You should go one tier above and jump to a 750w power supply, this will increase component life, increase system stability and overclockability and actually decrease power consumption. PSU power efficiency curves as a general rule are at their height at 50%, declining from there and with a steep decline at 70%, and assuming a 500w power consumption with your PC which should be close to the truth that's 67% load on a 750w power supply

Well with this approach we face the problems that 1) the cyclical is fucking dead (see earlier referral by to high-activity hours being 50 pp1/2h and then dropping off to 2 pph) and 2) Switch discussion is completely stymied as a direct result, quick sweep of the board logs shows that deleted Switch threads have absolutely no referral to the "no duplicate threads" rule or that a cyclical exists If you think the average Holla Forumsirgin has the IQ to ctrl f "Switch" on the catalog you're smoking crack or huffing your own farts

Also 3) the board isn't fast enough to warrant such a thing anymore, but that's getting into that a lot of the rules were designed with a much faster board in mind

Everytime I see this fucking 9gag meme I roll my eyes with disgust. The author is fucking delusional if they think that there is no truth to 1984, simply because 'I DON'T THINK THERE IS LOL.' The constant need for surveillance, fucking telescreens, thought police, all this was preordained and predicted by that fucking book. You'd have to be fucking Jewish or a cuck to be able to ignore that.

All this panel does is condense the fucking story of the book into a very biased series of passages. There's truth in both books, now stop being a pretentious cunt.

The misrepresentation of 1984 in this comic is fucking atrocious.
NO HE FUCKING DIDN'T
A lot of people like to think 1984 was based on Nazi Germany considering Orwell was a socialist, but it was actually based on the Soviet Union.
Orwell didn't fear Hitler that much as not many supported him, but he feared Stalin greatly as the western world were starting to accept to him and the USSR in the years after WW2.

Negative, Ghost Rider. Just a man who had to learn how to computer with no money, and intermittent Internet access. Learned how to use Windows with no mouse, which sounds like nothing, but apparently it's like being born on Jupiter, and then coming to Earth when you're ten, and punching semi trucks like antifags. People think you're some kind of super wizard because you know seeeecret keyboard shortcuts, like ALT+SHIFT+TAB.

I had to get hit by a car to get a Pentium 4. Even fixed one with a knife when some retard mashed one flat, CROOKED, on the goddamn socket. Straightened all the pins by eye without breaking any off, system POSTed without issue, system played NFS Underground for 40 minutes without overheating or crashing. Corrupt cunt of a boss cheated the person who brought the system in for repairs by charging the bastard for a new processor that didn't exist.

It's neat playing games at MAX SETTINGS, no doubt. I almost wept when I saw Battlefield 2142 at 60fps, max settings, but then those Dethklok faggots had to SJW-up the resurrection server. I used to play AvP2 at 800x600, minimum settings, due to having a shitty GeForce MX440. I have a pristine CRT on the floor next to me, waiting for its time to shine, and a desk sturdy enough to hold it without collapsing. My secondary monitor is a 15.5" widescreen LCD I got from a local flea market for $10, and a pile of 4:3 monitors on another desk for using with my ancient computers. Crazy playing Monkey Island on an LCD.

I remember my dad buying a 52x speed CD drive that held 5 Cds. there were buttons on the front that let you select the cd tray. Cool shit for the time.

Y'all mothafuckas need jesus!

I could design my own processor and write my own operating system, but i didn't know this shit.

Windows is shockingly obtuse when it comes to its features.

CTRL+TAB - change between subwindows in an application, or tabs in a browser.
CTRL+SHIFT+TAB - cycles through those subwindows or tabs in reverse order.

In Windows XP, and possibly earlier versions of Windows, when you're looking at the sound controls, precursor to Win7's mixer controls, if you hit CTRL+ALT+S, it makes the sound control window fun-size.

Its also weird how it then becomes second nature after a few uses. Modifier keys are just downright silly.

Look who's talkin'

That's fucking disgusting, but at least you picked the best version of such a shit drink

Imported straight from Poztralia. Sometimes I crave artificial banana. It mixes nicely with Ovaltine, too. Images: Part of the computer collection my asshole family threw away, under the guise of helping me move to a house big enough to hold it properly.

Dude, is that your house or where you work?
I need answers either way

this is worst shill I've seen
I have rx480 and works without a problem even undervolted it without problems and wattman is really great utility

But OP, it's a console war thread when Nintentoddlers are losing :^)

First two pics were from a huge shed/garage when I used to live in a trailer out in unincorporated land (state land, not part of a town), the the other three were from an unused spare bedroom in that trailer. The cat in the first pic just followed me into the shed when I was taking a picture. One of the neighbor's outdoor cats.

Desktop screenshot from that AT&T Globalyst computer. The one under the box for the USB PCI card.

Err, under the Atari box.

Never talk to me or my free software ever again.

Well duh, 60% of the board is nothing but Nintendrones.

This.

...

I never had any bad experiences with EVGA, but I heard the GTX 1000 line had higher failure rate than previous GTX line.

My worst experience was using a Mushkin PCI-E SSD. The customer service was fine, but the product had to be returned multiple times before I got one that kinda worked but not at rated speed. At that point I was fed up with returning the damn thing.

On the brighter end of this topic. The best customer experience I had was when an item had a price drop shortly after I bought it, I contacted Newegg & they refunded the difference so I didn't get fucked over by the sudden price drop.

Are you me? Got exactly the same card.
