Hows the weapon variety?

Based on what I've seen I believe it it will be like Ni-Oh where each weapon of the same class has the exact same move set, but the move sets are fairly large. I also think some weapons might have a few gimmicky abilities too, as I heard the crossover weapon from FFXV, the engine blade, allows you to use the the throw and teleport ability from FFXV. I also know the crossover weapon from DQ, the cypress stick, changes all chests into DQ style chests, making them easier to spot.

There's four types, swords, large swords, spears, and fists, with some pretty good variety in each it seems. 34 in total, but that's going off fextralife.

4 weapon types, and as 2B or A2 you can have 2 equipped that'll somewhat change what kind of combos you do, and the variety in your combos is pretty big depending on what 2 weapons you have on you. A small sword in both your light and heavy slot gives you something like Raiden's MGR moveset.

I thought it was odd that you can buy achievements in-game but thinking about it in regards to save deleting in ending E it makes perfect sense. Since it means literally nothing proves you did what you did in your save since it can all be bought.

I've been hit by a lot of enemy attacks and it hasn't blown it completely off. That being said I haven't been actively testing, if someone proves it's possible from enemy attacks then that'd be great but as far as I know it doesn't happen outside of self destruct.

AS I UNDERSTAND IT, Devola and Popola were running the replicant program, replacing replicant bodies that died since replicants can't reproduce. Nier fucking murdered them. The Shadowlord was the only Gestalt that could stabilize himself, so they they harvested magic/red maso/whatever it was called from him to stabilize the other Gestalts so they wouldn't turn into berserk shades like what you fight throughout most of the game.

And Nier murdered the shit out of him. So I can't think of how humanity would still be around after Nier went "muh Yona" and fucked up the future of the Earth as hard as he possibly could, unless Emil did something or it's tied into one of the novels that they released.

From all the supplemental material that I read after I beat Nier, the Shadowlord was the only source of whatever they needed to stabilize Gestalts. And even before Nier killed him, Shadowlord went rogue and kidnapped Yonah because he said fuck the project they lied to me, it's been thousands of years and they still haven't created a cure for the Black Scrawl/degeneration of Gestalts so Yonah is getting her body back now before she dies.

So no Shadowlord means all of Gestalts degenerate, and when a Gestalt degenerates it's paired Replicant gets the Black Scrawl and dies. Though I believe you're right about there being other androids like D&P across the country running things, futile though since all the Gestalts will die.

Securom is still in Alone in the Dark, you're wrong. Securom installs itself without your consent, installs UAS (User Access Service) which is a third-party version of UAC that prevents you from using task manager and other programs which monitor system processes, and it hides its files from the file table using cryptic methods, and when you remove the game the SecuRom folder will still be installed where it installed itself, and you can't delete or modify the contents of said folder.

I've seen it myself, it was a subject of great controversy for people who installed BioShit back in the day, to the point that the developers not only removed Securom but MADE A BIG NEWS RELEASE that they removed it. I have the fucking game, and I won't install or play it again because of the rootkit.

First and foremost, you will be disappointed if you go into this series expecting fun. Go look somewhere else (or go straight to Automata) for fun. There are two fine points for getting into DrakeNier, and they are both Drakengard and Nier. Keep in mind that every Drakengard game has had less than stellar gameplay (with Nier having the best/most serviceable gameplay before Automata happened).

Drakengard (as it has been stated multiple times) has very clunky, obnoxious gameplay and is an all around pain to go through, but fans love it because of how bizarre and pessimistic it is when compared to other JRPGs. It is about a psycho named Caim who fights against an evil Empire; nearing death, he forms a pact with a dragon to kill shit better and it all goes downhill from there. The game does a very fine job at creating a dark atmosphere that is greatly supported by the tediousness of the combat, the bleak visuals, the extremely chaotic music and the fact that shit keeps hitting the fan even harder with ever new chapter. It's also well loved because the protagonist and his companions are fucking psychopaths and the game doesn't even try to paint their actions as heroic.

Nier is the continuation of Drakengard's Ending E, but the connection is so unimportant that you wouldn't even know that they're both related unless you looked for the lore online. It is about a middle aged father who is looking after his sick daughter, and he goes on a journey to find a cure for her mortal disease no matter what the cost. It is honestly one of the best games Cavia did before it closed shop. The gameplay is pretty serviceable but it's nothing special, the graphics are so-so and the plot has a few flaws here and there, but the storytelling, soundtrack and characters are so strong that they make up for the flaws in my opinion. The localization was also pretty good and the voice acting is one of the best I've heard to this day, which is surprising given that 8-4 localized it. It's nowhere near as dark and edgy as Drakengard, but Nier is pretty fucked up in its own special way. It's not a bad idea to start with Nier and work your way up form there if you did love it. Papa Nier best Nier.

Drakengard 3 has very heavily divided opinions amongst the fans. Some love it, some hate it, and you hardly hear of someone inbetween. It is about an "Intoner" (a sort of goddess) called Zero and her dragon Mikhail who wants to kill her five sisters to be the last Intoner standing. It is a prequel of sorts to Drakengard, so there's no need to worry except for some nods here and there. The gameplay tried to be more action-y following into Nier's footsteps, but it ends up feeling rather clunky as a result. The story has the usual grim aspect that you'd expect from Taro's games albeit with dark comedy and nympho/sexual jokes thrown into the mix. The soundtrack is a step down from Nier's in my opinion, but still worth a listen. Give it a chance if you wish, but it's not essential.

Drakengard 3 has probably one of the best songs used for its climax ever composed. It's a shame it's used on a not-so-good "fight" the fight is basically a repeat of Drakengard 1's Ending E rhythm boss, but instead of simon says, you have to press it to the rhythm the notes come out, the timing for when to press isn't exactly matched up to the rhythm of the song, and the very last note you have to press gets shot out after the screen goes dark and when the song itself is slowing down, meaning you have to be very good at keeping a beat in your head to get the note. Missing one note means you have to do the entire 7 minute fight over again.

If I had to use one word, I'd go with 'flexible.' You could play the game with just the starting weapons while relying on good ol' dodge-and-poke combat, but there's also a lot of depth in using different weapons, weapon sets, combos and cancels, chip sets, pod programs, and character-specific abilities.

How badly does accidental overleveling affect gameplay?

Pretty badly, I had maxed out some weapons and was about 10 levels ahead of everything because I did most of the side-quests before getting ending A. Bosses ended up dying too quickly and not reaching certain phases, I tuned it up to hard and it seemed to fix it. But hard is actually fucking hard, most things can 2 shot you.
I'm going to do a run without any upgrades/ side quests once it releases on PC to see if it keeps up the challenge.

Legit spoilers, the only connection between Drakengard's ending E and Nier is that Caim and Angelus travel to the real world Shinjuku, fight against a goddess grotesquerie and are then shot down by the JSDF. This chain of events introduces magic particles called "maso" from Drakengard's unvierse into Nier's, which causes a HUGE chain of events that ultimately leads to the demise of Nier's world and the events of the game. The only time this is ever hinted at in the game is on a few seemingly random remarks from NPCs and story segments ("A red dragon falls from the skies…," amongst other minor nods). It's not essential for you to know, but it adds a lot of enjoyment to know how batshit insane things got behind the scenes.

If you get interested in the dark colossus that Drakengard is you could actually try it out afterwards or at the very least read a synopsis of the events to get an idea of how deep the rabbit hole goes. Clemps (>>12077305) does a fairly good job at explaining the events and the lore of the games if you can handle his extreme faggotry. If not, DarkId's LP (>>12077350) does a fairly good job at telling the game's events.

Yeah, that's a big factor. I've yet to play Automata, but Nier was very adamant about how morality is not black and white. Nier's party, despite being heroes in a reasonable sense, also committed heinous feats in their campaign if you rationalize it for a moment, which gets further revised and expanded upon in NG+ from another point of view. Taro said in an interview in Grimorie Nier that he made the game based on the thought of whether killing for a cause was truly correct in the end after being inspired by the events of 9-11, no joke.

Another thing to consider (as obvious as it is), first endings in Yoko Taro games are pretty much "introductions" to get you used to the game's circumstances whereas the real meat of the game lies in further playthroughs. The only true ending that will give you closure is the final one. Get back to it.
