I got my capture device sorted out. (Used an HDMI splitter to separate TV feed from Capture because capture device was introducing too much lag to be played on.) Now I can make some ZBotW clips. Shitty ones, but still superior to the soundless cuskchan reposts I keep seeing.

I wish I had it sorted sooner because there was a funny moment I missed out on recording. A little girl wanted me to make a barrel float with balloons so I put three on it. She got excited & handed over a reward, then I walked away, heard the balloons pop as the barrel crashed down right on her head in the background. The timing was so good. Either the wind was perfect or it was scripted.

The CGI that many anime shows use is almost always complete trash because they use horribly low framerates that make things look janky and jerky as fuck, or they use absolutely stiff keyframes that makes it look like nothing every moves fluidly. In a good number of instances, they have both those problems.

In that scene you see the terribad framerate evident in the beginning, whenever the soldiers move. Then, for some reason, it switches to fluid framerate when Cap-sama goes Rambo. The janky issue isn't there either, likely because it was motion capped, which is a smart thing to do in such a scene. Then, after Cap-sama stops shooting, you see super jerky framerates again, when he's breathing and moving after it's all over.

When people say CGI in anime is shit, they're right but it's not because of CGI itself, it's because 95% of the time they don't fucking do it right. Either do shit the right way or not at all, because it turns out looking like crap.

I've been working for a while in software development now and I have had to occasion to study, or actually work within, various development and testing methods.
It is my firm belief that many, if not all, game development studios use the sequential model which is the worst choice when building large pieces of software.
I believe that's why we constantly hear about crunch times for both testing and dev teams, bugs that remain in game despite their severity and botched games at release.
They may have great coders and testers, but no one in middle or upper management has read up on how to actually organize the process of development.

nuDoom is good.
oldDoom is so uniquely amazing that to this day no FPS has managed to capture it's gameplay or overall feel. Many have come close, none have managed to surpass it.

Enemy AI is laughable, shows no strategy, enemies move at glacial speed

Everyone keeps talking about "Enemy counts" when the most enemies you ever fight in even Doom 2 is less than 2 dozen, and at that it's always a bunch of enemies with the least taxing attack animations and smallest sprites because of how computers were back then

They move as slow as mud meaning all you have to do to avoid them is circle strafe all day long which is piss easy, gameplay is constantly slowed because the only way to progress at higher difficulties is to grab every last piece of armor etc because the game gives up and just attacks you with hitscan enemies, doom 2 being the biggest offender of this

Other than how fast your character can run there's not much else you can do, you can't jump, all you can do is either have enough speed to cross a pit or fall down

And I was 16 when the game came out and I still don't have nostalgia for it, because so many FPS games have come along since then which while you're not breaking the land speed record running offer so much more in terms of gameplay that just circle strafing shit all day long

nuDoom if you go right at the bigger monsters you are fucking dead on higher difficulties, which requires you to master the terrain because the longer you are on a level surface with them the bigger chance you are going to be dead

oldDoom is a good game, but it's been vastly eclipsed by the shooters that followed it in terms of gameplay/mechanics/feel

It's like how people will say "Super Mario 1 was the best mario ever" when I'll openly say Super Mario World 2 was as good as the 2D Marios have ever been

Considering I played oldDoom for the first time last year I doubt I can exhibit any nostalgia towards it.

Off the top of my head, E1M9 spawns you in an arena with 3 exits, in the middle of the arena there's a cage filled with at least 20 imps while each room at the end of the exits has at least 4 to 6 soldiers/shotgunners. And this is just the start of the level. Sure, there's a room with only 3 imps in it, but the floor is an acid pit and the imps are all standing on platforms inside the acid pit.

If you try to search for something deeper you will be very disappointed with oldDoom. But it doesn't try to be anything more than this and it excels at going fast and killing a lot of dudes.

My problem with nuDoom is the small number of enemies, and the fact that DoomGuy is slow and to add insult to injury, instead of giving you a double at the start of the game they make you run the unlock treadmill for it.
The treadmill isn't inherently bad, but there are some things that should be "starting items", while other can work as unlocks.

But at the end of the day they're both great games which I enjoyed and I think our differences boil down to a matter of personal taste.

Actually, I think the agile/iterative model is also not suited for game development. And no one really wants daily scrum meetings.

I believe the spiral model would work best for video game development. I say this with the caveat that I have only read about this method and haven't actually worked with it.
It just seems like common sense to build a prototype and then iterate on it while going through the design and testing with each new iteration.
Looks to me like the end product would end up being a very solid piece of software.

But please, tell me how oldDoom is better where you have to run around for ammo in huge area's and never are forced to engage your enemies at close range, said enemies who move about 10 meters in 30 seconds?

But yeah, if you suck at nuDoom I can see why you have to glory kill every single enemy on the map in order to stay alive

Doom 1 has you engaging enemies up close using level design, also, except for lost souls and pink demons, everything else is ranged so even if you get away from them they will still hit you (the only ones that will actually miss are imps and caco demons, but their projectiles do way more damage than the other normal enemies)
the level design in nuDoom is complete horseshit, and because of that they need to force you to play by their rules or the game would be a complete cakewalk, the glory kills giving you the resources are just there to enforce you to do it.
But keep lying to yourself thinking nuDoom is a good addtion to the franchise, hell it's not even doom, it feels more like a Zelda FPS.
