Just be aware there's a vast disparity in presentation between the 2 halves of the game. They just didn't have anime cutscenes to rip off, in the 2nd half of the story, and that makes the later parts of the game feel more rushed and low cost.

Heartcatch - Hands down, unarguable. The best action sequences in the franchise.

Yes!5 - Efficient and neat display of teamwork in an animated setup.

Splash Star - Easily in a high spot because it's one of the few seasons where bad guys die, and bad guys are actually fucking metal (literally in Kintolesky's case. Watch this one if you're not burned on Max Heart)

Fresh - Frequent Kaiju fights. Badly-animated, but charming and entertaining nonetheless.

Futari Wa - Does a lot of things right and things that don't get repeated ever again because apparently there were a lot of bleack/hard themes with this one. Still a goodie. inb4 what did you say about honoka

Why is this advertised about Demons and what not when demons only appear once every 200ish years or so and in the game they only appear to 2 people who are branded. Don't worry, I plan on watching all Precure since I'm an anime fiend that likes it all. I'm going at a rate of 3 episodes a day, usually, so I figure I'll be done sometime by the end of the year. It hasn't been all that adult so far. The worst thing that's ever really happened was Kiriha (the Dark kid that Honoka liked) dying/disappearing. That was a fucked up situation I definitely didn't expect out of the shows tone. Even then, he was given a moment near the end to reconcile with Pretty Cure and show that he totally super isn't dead.

It's abnormal for a musou game, because I'm actually impressed with a lot of the mechanical gameplay improvements they've made.

But for some reason, they dropped the ball on a lot of Musou standard, like the amount of characters (which can be attributed to it being a berserkgame), the difficulty scaling (It takes very little time for a character to reach a level to easily beat the hardest) but the biggest problem in this game is that the mission you play are shit. Musou games were all ready pretty repetetive, but in this game, every mission is just "Fight your way from point A to B" or "Kill X Enemies." I can remember 3 missions that were fun to play, and only one of them actually existed in the story of Berserk, the others were padding. Beserk itself doesn't make a very good musou game, but the developers seem to have put a lot of love into it for this game, despite that.

That's a common problem with Musou games. Seems to me like they should expand on the optional side missions, what you refer to as "padding." It's important in Musou games to have some variety in objectives, since you spend 99% of the time sweeping away hundreds of grunts. I've only played the first couple of missions in this game so far, but first battle was good. Not much wandering, clear objectives that take an appropriate amount of time. Capture bases, kill officers, destroy catapult, escape trap, capped off with a pretty good boss fight. It's par for the course in Musous, but the main thing is keeping you engaged in actively contributing to the battle, otherwise you end up slaughtering grunts by the thousands out of boredom. The only thing they could add is retrieval or escort, which both kind of suck.

I'm hoping there's a hard mode after finishing the game, because so far it's laughably easy. The enemies take a good amount of damage to kill, so I'm not ragdolling dozens of footsoldiers per swing yet, but they inflict virtually no damage to me despite my extremely careless playing. Still early though, maybe it ramps up a bit.

I feel like I'd be enjoying this more if I already read Berserk or at least watched the movies. But I'm still having fun in short bursts with it.

The problem is they have no "excitement" to a lot of the battles. While in every Musou game you could (usually) win the battle by just plowing through to the other side of the level fast enough, there's basically no surprises. No trap, sieges (except for maybe 4 total missions),, and in 90% of the missions in the game, you don't even have an army at your back to fight along side. Basocally, they picked a shitty IP to make into a musou game, because Guts rarely fights amies. And when he does, his jobis just to slaughter with no regard for strategy.

I saw the 90s anime, and because of that I hated playing through the Golden Age arc. I was really interested in seeing what happens after. If you don't know about Beserk's plot you're gonna be in for a wild ride

Needs more Lu Bu. Or similar obstacles. I think they tried to do this with some of the low-tier officers that get atk or def boosts at low health, but it's not enough to matter at all. That's what the Musou spinoffs are missing, things that actually create a problem for you to solve. You should get a bit beat up on the way to the big bad boss instead of getting there after 10 minutes of weak attack cruise control. I think that's something that made Dynasty Warriors work, there were times when an opponent like Lu Bu or Guan Yu or Zhang Liao showed up and pushed your shit in.

Maybe that ties in to the lack of characters, though. I'd have been fine with them going a little off-script, making random nobodies a bit tougher, for the sake of making this game a little more challenging.
