If you're focusing on characters rather then locales, dungeons, boss monsters and shit you can do with items, it's not Zelda.

If you have schools of magic, link it to key items like say a book or an artefact.

When the player gets a spell or an item, you don't explain it to them, you let them play with it to get them out of the room they're now trapped in.

If you want Link to be female (because that's essentially what this is) because you can't stand men, or because you want every property to be inclusive, you miss the point of gaming.

In fact, if Zelda is actually playable, SCRAP the original formula, SCRAP the original gameplay, and make something new out of it.

Zelda is a completley different character from link, almost always classified as a powerful holy sorceress who is only outclassed by Ganondorf because she's either too young, or he's holding her people (or family in Ocarina's case) hostage, or war with him will cause loads of suffering, which is why she turns into Sheik, why she only really helps during the final boss, or is otherwise occupied with other important, realm saving duties.

There's far more you can do with Zelda as a playable character then turning her into a fucking female link, drop the sword and shield and armory and replace all the weapons with spells for starters if you're going to go through with being a hack that copies another man's formula. For god's sake be original. It's a bad high concept because all it is is "This with theme" when you get down to it, it's the same shit as a rehash.

Not only that, but existing zeldo 'canon' already contradicts this, as the Soul of the Hero resides in Link, the Soul of the Goddess resides in Zelda, or every other princess, and the Soul of Demise exists in the equivalent evil of the era.

Give it a good reason, slap a relatable personality with flaws to the demon, and add 'weakness' to the demon that level designers can exploit to give difficulty and require skill from the player, and it'd be fine.

Another Great War started brewing with multiple factions and started conscripting solders. one of those is zelda, a master of archery and magic and her childhood friend impa. Two of them reached high ranks that they impressed prince link and give them a special mission: to learn about the strange war machine that Ganon is making that turned once friendly allies into enemies. Zelda and impa go to different faction to learn about the war machine and turn those enemy faction into allies by fighting the king/queen who was brainwashed or fear mongered

At a point impa get sperated from Zelda and now she has to do the heavy lifting, but she notice that the hero of time is by her side, helping her and providing her support (totally not prince link)

The game will probably be stealth with weird co-op fight system thing like in the new final fantasy game

Also the hero of time is the one who got defeated, so it's in the "hero of time failing to defeat Ganon" timeline

For example Ganon (just skip over Ganondorf) is invading and wrecking all sorts of shit and is just getting into position. A council to Zelda bring up the fact that a hero should have shown up by now to fix this. Zelda volunteers to try and find the hero (since the legend also says she'll be captured by Ganon and is trying to avoid that).

From there she travels to the most likely place where a hero could be found due to having a legend of a hero who helped solve a crisis they had, Termina. From there have Link be either a prince or a hermit but both being heralded as the decedent of the legend.

Have it be the curse Demise cast that causes Ganondorf be evil to attach to Link due to there not being a Ganondorf for one reason or another, and Link's is clearly best candidate for taking over the world. Have a different villain start wrecking shit (Vaati or give Zant another go) that causes Link's hero soul (and coincidentally the demon) to awaken.

Have it be excessively bloodthirsty and trying to get link to take over the villains army (but in a dismissive manner like "They'll do"). It's also aware of the reason it's attached to Link and the prophecy that dictates what they must do. It can also be Navi-equivilent (more Tatl or Midna due to the characterization). At the beginning explain that it hasn't taken over Link due to his pure nature which eventually starts to falter under the pressure of the daemon, which drives Link to find the Master Sword to help keep the demon at bay. And while they usually suck, a Morality system would fit. Have siding with the Demon result in stronger attacks (with maybe a change to fighting style be wilder and more brutal), and a longer lasting Devil Trigger. Also the demon keeps it's bloodthirsty demeanor rather then mellowing out. Acting more like Link results in more health and skills, and the intended character arc for the demon.

If there is a morality system then the Evil ending could be finishing the job of the big bad and taking over. The good ending could be the demon, while enjoying being the hero, realizes it still must continue the prophecy if left alone. And since there's be no hero to stop him then he'd surely succeed. So he'd let himself be purified from Link and sealed by Zelda. Finally if the play was wish-washy on morality have him take over the army, but then say the prophecy is vague as to which land he's meant to take over and leave Hyrule. For the time being at least.

I've always had complaints about this.

Aaron is a passable artist, but his writing is shit, and he has no idea what makes a video game fun. The only interesting thing is the magic system (despite "arcane" being just pulled out of his ass with some random fucking "Professor Quinlan"), but how would those combine? How does Arcane combine with Water or Fire? How does Twilight? Divine?
The idea is that the gauntlet grants elemental abilities, and the schools of magic either grant new spells or modify the elementals, but nothing is explained about that in any way.
Another problem is how does this develop? The description of the magic system implies that the elementals are unlocked through progression, but that the schools are grinded for, with some balance system preventing you from mastering them all, which is shit as far as a Zelda game goes, when you want to be able to complete the entire game and get all the rewards, rather than min-maxing.

So that's it. You have passable art with mostly boring character swaps, some faux-steampunk setting, stupid political plot (hurr durr imperialism), and some vaguely described basic gameplay, most of which are either standard for the series, lifted from other games, or just completely underexplained. If you took out the cute art and just left the descriptions, it would read like the average 13-year-old's attempt at designing their own Zelda game.
