I wouldn't call Logitech the best, for they have mice from either extreme, terrible or really good, in every sense. The keyboards are alright, they do the job fine and last long. And obviously, not online, and onboard memory is pretty sick, I use it to alternate between music playing mode and videogames mode.

A mechanical keyboard can, for a large segment of the population, provide some sort of benefit over a rubberdome one, however, the improvement is fairly minimal in terms of performance.

For me, the biggest improvement was simple comfort - I find mechanical keys to be far more enjoyable to type with, especially over prolonged periods of time, that alone was worth the £35 I paid for the Lolita, but I would never suggest anyone pay a penny more - the performance difference simply does not justify the insane £200+ prices some people are charging.

Meanwhile well-worn browns feel like brand new rubberdome keys that never get squishy/weak and remain consistent.

This is something that needs to happen for one reason and one reason only. Because someone in a position to pitch things to a higher executive or maybe an executive themselves looking to make a name for themselves with something DAZZLING and NEW and PUSHING THE ENVELOPE told them that this always online settings thing was going to be the best fucking thing ever. Those fucking executives, those people in charge, are out of touch not only with the "pulse" of the market and consumers but even out of touch with the products their own fucking company produces (this is the result of several factors) and so they just go along with what this guy looking to further their career, put a bright spot in their resume, because he is using the right buzzwords and sounds confident and all the other slimy bullshit.
And so this type of always online bullshit is given the go-ahead. It is made as a company wide goal. The people who are doing the actual fucking work have to do it even if they don't agree with it because in a corporation its more important to do what you're told rather than to do what is right (technically, financially, ethically) especially the further removed from the top you go.

You want to know what the bitch of it is? The guy who proposed this GREAT NEW AWESOME THING of always online settings and basically DRM for hardware peripherals? He's long gone. He's either floated up in the company in a position beyond accountability for this product direction or he's long gone out of the company anyway. But I guarantee you that some other poor fucker is inheriting the fallout to this mess and he's being blamed and blackmarked for something he didn't build but was put in charge of.

So that poor fucker is going to have two decisions, try to tell these executives at the top that the idea that THEY GAVE FULL BLESSING TO was a BAD IDEA and thus hurt THEIR egos (you can guess how this option isn't going to go anywhere). OR, propose something like "We need our own servers for this always online shit! Or at the very least have two different cloud providers! Google looks good!"

This doesn't excuse anything about Razer and this isn't a defense. But I hope this peak into the reality of corporate structure of companies like this would give you a little insight as to how this baffling bullshit happens in the first place and why it suddenly becomes a legitimate question for consumers to ask why there isn't an offline mode for settings.

The company I currently work for has several IBM products totaling somewhere in the high teens in millions of dollars just collecting dust because of a failed project to completely overhaul the tech stack of the company from all levels.
Oh, and lets not even count the money lost in manhours to consultants imported from the east (H1B visas and pumped up resumes) that were supposed to set all this shit up and hand it off in working condition but nobody stayed on top of THEM and when their contract ended they walked away while everything was left an un-salvagable mess. oh..CANT SUE EM EITHER! because the fuckdicks that made the requirements for the project didn't know what the fuck they wanted and so those consultants technically fulfilled their contracts.

And at every step of the way everyone has to just nod and go along with it because someone at an executive level is invested in these schemes.
Customers never see this side of things but the ramifications within the corporate structure and culture do eventually trickle out into the products as damage control to cover up that last bad idea becomes the only priority.

It's my fucking job to work with computers, and Windows 10 is the most unfriendly system to power-users in existence. Using it feels like trying to do BMX with a tricycle. It shoves all of the advanced features and even file access into the retard safety cabinet and expects you to get by with whatever shitty apps come preloaded. Don't forget that there's fucking ads, as if everything else wasn't bad enough.
