Man, I wish TS3 ran better. It always takes like 6-10 minutes to boot up, and then runs like ass and I'm constantly afraid of glitches and crashes. I love the game, but this is ridiculous.

I feel you. Even on modern high-end rigs it takes you a good 20 mins to get to your fucking lot from clicking the icon to boot the game up. It almost seems like it actually loads slower on modern high-end rigs vs what you'd find midrange back when TS3 first came out. Myabe my HDD is just a horrible bottleneck for this game and I need an SSD. How long does it take an SSD to start the game up I wonder?

How hard is it to mod shit into The Sims 3 (or 2?) I only ask for these because that's what I have fond memories of playing with my sibling and would love to see some shit added in without having to pay/pirate for expansions.

I remember when I last played it I was happy when I earned enough money to move to a better house. I just went to map editor or whatever it's called, put the most expensive and biggest house somewhere and then moved my family there. The loading took about half an hour and even then when playing in every 5 seconds I got like half a minute worthy of lag. Fucking piece of shit optimization, after that I dropped the game

Last time I played Sims 3 I remember memorizing a list of things to do so I could optimize it and cut down on lag and game-breaking bugs which do in fact occur and essentially corrupt your save. I managed to cut the initial load time (with all expansions) to ~3 minutes and the initial save-loading to ~4 minutes. I had recently built a modern gaming computer and so I assume that's what really allowed all those expansions to work. Otherwise you're just asking for lag.

Off the top of my head and depending how much IIRC;
NRAAS is what will really save your ass time and time again. You can also use it to decrease CAS room lag via certain tweaks.
Probably missed a few.

For custom worlds, if they're a .world file they should go in the installedworlds folder in the sims 3 folder in your documents

What should I put in this city? Trying for an Asian theme overall, but generic city is fine for the actual city part (suburbs are very Nipponese so far). Big lot on hill is 50x50. Smaller lots are 35x25 (north), 20x40 (center back of tower), a handful of 20x15, and a bunch of 10x10+10x15.

Though, if they still don't appear your best bet is to use the multi sims 3 pack installer to extract the world file and put it in the installedworlds folder. I'm not exactly sure how to help you cause I've never encountered this problem before

EA is terrified even those will start pirating since the number of players has been getting lower and lower because they never add actually interesting shit on 4's exps.

problem with trying to do a complete remake of the sims is that you'd have to first make an architecture simulator, then make a people simulator

to be on par with ts3, you need a team to work on the engine for building houses, a team to work on decorative shit to furnish buildings with, a team to work on the engine for designing sims, a team to work on animations and interactions
it's so much work involved that EA's skeleton crew can only work on updating the game and re-releasing it as a whole new game instead of starting over from scratch to make something more functional, and they barely understand what they're doing with updating the old engine

You could use story progression to limit the skin-tone range, but that doesn't help that much.

I think you could also setup storyprogression to make new sims exclusively based on genetics of Sims in the bin, but I'm not sure if you can make that many Nipponese girls or get rid of the EA defaults.

Interest has really died down, since funny shit is hard to come by, mods aren't super great, even kinkyworld got pretty boring since the newest builds are buggy on top of ts3 being buggy on it's own. Pretty much everything that could be discussed has already been discussed over on /hgg/, and it doesn't seem like there's much active development for ts3 now.

Actually, just yesterday I re-installed everything (8 expansions + around 1GB worth of mods).

The booter + FPS limiter, 4GB patch AND optimizing your packages (combining many smaller ones into one big one) does WONDERS.

The loading time has dropped down to not even 3 minutes.

I may put up a new megapack, though it seems I lost a few minor things
