Halo Wars 2 Character Design Comparisons

Did they even look at what the original designs were?

AND WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO ANDERS JESUS CHRIST

Literally who?
Have a sage. Shill your overlord's game elsewhre.

Upvoting the thread your downvote means nothing reddit fuck

When Microsoft said they would be "Reviving a beloved strategy game" I thought they meant Age of Empires 4. This is just bullshit, what the fuck.

This was a money grabbing scheme and if you expected anything different after the game was announced to be xbone and win10 exclusive you're retarded

What do either of these statements have to do with how perplexing the character design changes are?

DID
YOU
THINK
THEY
WERE
GOING
TO
GIVE
A
SINGLE
FUCK

It happens. Just look at Revolver Ocelot

It's to be expected OP, but I get how much dick it sucks. Seems to be a recent trend among most developers where the models are way off from their previous gen models. I don't know if it's a game engine issue or the fact that these companies are filled to the brim with modern art design graduates.

They had to give some form of a fuck if they changed the designs to look like completely different people. If they didn't give a fuck, they would of just used the same models from the first game and been done with it.

They have to use their own assets and shit
I meant do you think they give a fuck about the game, not about making money

The excuse they gave is that Blur's art style has changed since the original halo wars and it's less stylized now.

While that's true, I agree that they either didn't make an attempt to still be faithful or intentionally changed it. If I had to guess, perhaps MS felt that having a super old man be the main protaginist wouldn't do well for the target demographic?

343 seems to be learning, actually. Halo 5's core mechanics, MP, and forge are all fantastic and show that they learned from their mistakes on 4, they recently announced 6 and all future FPS titles from them (interesting to note they said "FPS" generally, not Halo) will have splitscreen, unlike 5, and they gave an indication that they are paying attention to the complaints people have about their armor designs.

The EU also never really got worse outside of the negative impact 4 and 5's plot's had, the novels have, if anything, only gotten better under 343 in terms of average quality. Aside from the travis books basically every 343 novel has been around fall of reach tier or better.

Did they just? Ugh I cant believe they would whitewash a strong asian woman and turn her into emma watson. I literally cant even right now

I almost feel bad for 343
4 fucked the series so hard in the eyes of so many people that there's no way they can redeem themselves
Even if they started pumping out pure gold, their reputation isn't going to make people want to spring for an xbone to see for themselves

That women's boobs appear to have given up the fight against gravity.

4 + MCC's bugs pretty much sealed it, yeah.

Even if 5's SP was as good as it's MP and it had local play (which, IMO, would make it tied for 2 as the best game in the series, if not outright the best), it still wouldn't have sold that much.

4 and MCC killed people's trust in 343, nobody owns xbones, and in general, Halo doesn't have the normalfag/dudebro audience anymore.

I liked the pershing-looking Cutter though, since he actually LOOKED like an old man who had enough shit for one life. Nu-cutter looks like a middle aged man who died his hair to look old.

Meanwhile Anders looks like Emma Watson if she got smacked with the down-syndrome stick.

doesn't help 343i shoved microtransactions into Halo 5 with the REQ system

I have met people to this day that defend the fucking MCC.

I'll just play Custom Edition and wait for that user to host his server again.

I mean, there's still a vailid argument that it's the definitive way to play the campaigns and even disregarding the MP, the 5 campaigns for the 20$ it is now or even 60$ on launch isn't really a bad deal.

It's just that doesn't excuse the fact that they promised working networking and it didn't have that at launch.

...

In just a few short years, people who were born when halo came out will be able to post here

Holla Forums has always had halo fans, though there are a troubling number of Halo 3 babies nowadays.

Literally shaking right now.

we Ghost in the Shell now

I heard it was because they mocapped it this time, so they had them model it after the actors.

R.I.P. Anders
Once, she was one of the hottest women in all of vidya, then they turned her into… a boy with tits? Also, fuck Isabel, like holy shit that's one ugly-as-sin AI. Halo Wars 2 has some serious aesthetic problems.

Except it uses a really nice blend of Halo 3, reach, and the very, very few good 343 designs that exist.

...

I fucking hate this muh realist graphics on non realistic things.
halo 2's cut scenes look way better than halo 2 remastered's
rip imagination

Aside from maybe the Gravemind's since they used camera angles that showed it's whole body at once, now they fucking don't.

Fuck off microsoft

1. They look more or less the same
2. Halo what now? I thought it only has masters chiefs and ayyliens.

There's over 20 novels. It has more lore then fucking elder scrolls.

...

You don't need to be an expert but you need to at least have a bare fucking mimum level of knowledge about it.

If you literally know nothing about the franchise but MASTER CHEEF and haven't even played a single game in the series then, no, you aren't in a position to know if it's good or not.

Do you know who Johnson is? At least Cortana? That one's not even restricted to the games anymore.

What the fuck is with modern modellers that makes them give female characters such a massive gap between neck and breast?

lots of lore doesn't mean good lore, and besides, the story already shat the bed post Halo 3, maybe not ODST, I never played it but Reach wasn't of any value, I liked the idea that Cortana was just another fixture on that ship and not some kind of super significant AI built to win the war or whatever the purpose of Reach was, wasn't there another AI in one of the novels and another one on the ship in Halo Wars?

I haven't played 4 or 5 but the return of the Covenant looks fucking stupid.

Pretty much every ship has an AI like her, yeah, but Cortana was purpose made to crack Covenant systems. She was made to go on the Pillar of Autumn, but she wasn't some super-powered god. She had no reason to be in some ice cave, and the Autumn was supposed to be on it's way out-system instead of sitting in dry dock like a fat piece of shit.

How the fuck did it even get damaged in the two minutes before it jumped to slipspace? What the fuck happened, Keyes?

Yes, Reach was dumb as shit, and 4 was garbage, but 5 and Halo Wars 2 set up a really neat, Battlestar Galactica style conflict in 6. No idea if they will cash that cheque, but I hope it doesn't stay shit.

That's true, but it's a good thing that Halo does have good lore.

Reach has a lot of content and modes, an absurd amount, probably the most of any console FPS to date. It's got issues but it's not terrible like people make it out to be.

A lot of ships would have likely had dumb AI's instead of smart ones like Cortana.

Out of all the complaints to make about the inconssitices between H:R and tFoR this one always baffled me. There's outright a chunk of time in the book where cheif is in cyro where the pickup could have occurred.

Beyond that, pretty much every inconsistency between Reach and the book have been explained in a decent way, other then the super bullshit reason given for why the battle lasted like 3 weeks in the game and 1 day in tFoR, which is that the first 2/3 or so of H;R was a separate scouting fleet that ONI somehow hid from the rest of the UNSC and only battled against with terrestrial army forces, as if a fucking scouting fleet would have a CSO supercarrier.

Stop making me enter captcha all the time jesus.

I still think that's stupid, she worked fine as just the ships onboard AI, she is already special enough as an AI, just like Master chief is just as a Spartan, it just seems to meet well, them both being advanced but not special.

I haven't played 5 and I don't think I ever will, I just don't want to buy an Xbox One, although I will admit I do want to play Halo Collection and Sunset Overdrive. I hope they keep releasing on PC and in the build up to Halo 6 release 5 and the Halo Collection on PC, I really want to play Halo 2 remastered, personally I think it's the height of the series, although I think Halo 1 and 3 are around the same standard of quality and 3 definitely brought a lot of good content to the table. The pre rendered cutscenes are a real fucking turn off for me, especially with previous Halo's rendering them in real time and in some moments of Halo 2 it looking fucking excellent, the self shadows on the Arbiter in the intro gave me a graphical hard on at the time.

I enjoyed the lore but I don't think it's anything especially good, I mean I guess that means it's good, it's certainly not bad that's for sure.

I played Reach, mainly the campaign, I've played 1, 2, 3 and Reach co-op with my brother. I was implying I haven't played ODST, because I haven't, it didn't look especially good and even though I thought reach looked like shit I came home for the holidays and my brother had borrowed it from a friend so we played it.

Then stop shitposting in a thread that's not about something you care about, retard

The thing about the Autumn being docked is that is makes a lot of the book pointless. The Spartans were all active when they were on there way out, Chief even mentions how he felt the ship change course. So, why would they decide to keep specifically Chief in cryo when it could have meant the success of the mission or failure, and instead send Red Team and apparently ALSO Blue Team to die with the generators and leave the defense of the ship to the fucking marines. Also, the Pelican takes a good 20 seconds to make it to the landing platform where Noble 6 was. When he destroyed that cruiser, there were NO incoming craft. They could have leisurely sent a Pelican back for him and brought him onboard, and they would have gone through Halo 1 with an extra fucking Spartan, but NO, he had to watch as it set off, leaving him there to die.

Also, in the time that Noble Team was fighting desperately to try and take out the fleet, and protect Cortana, Keyes apparently thought it was a good use of resources to send a fucking Pelican up through the contested atmosphere, by itself, to wipe a ships nav core? It made sense in the original book, as they were still under fire and they sent them rocketing down through the atmosphere, and ramming them into the station respectively, but now it seems like it would have been better to just blast the station with the onboard Mac Cannon, and have Chief go grab Cortana with Blue Team. It would have been a better conclusion, and tied it in with the rest of the series better to have the last stand be in that ice cave as it collapses, handing the core off to Chief and Linda.

The whole "purpose-built" thing doesn't really change anything, it just means she knows more about cryptology than usual. She's Lara Croft crammed into a computer. They even gave the Autumn a supplementary Dumb AI to handle the military stuff Cortana may not have been able to, so it's not like she was perfect.

And ODST is pretty good, not as bombastic as the others, but definitely a nice little story. Great atmosphere too, play with a nice soundsystem, at night.

It was a completely unnecessary addition, she worked fine without it and now she's that special AI, that extra special AI, next thing you know Master Chief is that special Spartan, they will make a Halo where it's revealed that he went to Spartan Academy but was thrown out for being too good so he hated Spartan Academy and killed their leader who was his father, and he fought against the Humans because he hated them for being the good team but was reprogrammed, that's what this shit feels like to me.

Well, that stuff was established alongside the first game, so it was always there. It never really affected anything in the games, since there were no other AIs other than her till Halo Wars and Halo 4, and only one of them made Cortana out to be some 'super special' thing.

Smart AIs usually have a specialty, man, she's not the only one. Deja was the Spartan's instructor, and she was really good at teaching and such, Serena on the Spirit of Fire handled all the operations of that big ass colony/production ship. Cole Protocol had one that was arguably MORE special than Cortana, since she was still operating pretty much normally even after rampancy would have kicked in. She's good at Forerunner systems, and that's about it. Everything else could be handled better by a specialized AI.

And when you think about it, Chief already has elements of that. Fred is the better fighter, Sam was the biggest and strongest, Kelly is the fastest, Linda is the best shot, Kurt is arguably the best leader, Chief was just good at everything and lucky as hell.

I don't recall Cortana being seen as anything special in the first game outside of being the Ships AI, but if that's the case and me not having played a Halo game in more than 5 years has just made me forget then fuck me.

No, I mean the first book came out a month before the first game did. It was always there, and it was kept out of the games until Reach.

And I don't think her having a specialty makes her any more special than the other smart ais, with their own specialties.

None of this shit really matters
Cortana was based on Halsey and paired with the Iron Chef, which(aside from being a main character) gives her Plot Significance, the most special kind of power that exists in any fictional universe

The SP is pretty ok. Not amazing, but HW1's SP was just ok too.

This fucking matchmaking is terrible though. It is literally impossible to play a 3v3 with human opponents. There is a good 30 second delay between commands, alongside an average 10FPS

Isnt Halo 5 an aberration of all the current year first person shooters, diversity and microtransactions? The game sold for shit last I heard because it was really just that bad.

The bad part of halo 5 is the campaign
You know, the part that heavily featured a bunch of random faggots that weren't captain king and an advertising campaign that kinda painted him as the bad guy
Not exactly the kind of thing to get people hype enough to buy an xbone

It had all the things Halo has been traditionally against, and it tried to force Black McSeriousman into the spotlight rather than the Chief and Blue Team. They also tried to copy the cool moments from the other games, like with the Kraken, which somehow turned out less interactive than the fucking Halo 2 version of the Scarab.

The sales were supposedly the worst of any mainline series entry, including 1, but after quite a while and plenty of discounts the playerbase has apparently reached Halo 3 levels.

Doesnt the multiplayer have microtransactions? Didnt they remove the split screen?

Yes, and yes. The microtransactions also take the place of actually customizing your armour like in previous games, they even removed the tertiary colour selection so they could sell helmets with a different colour as "variants".

The gameplay-affecting transactions are limited to Warzone, but the include things like tanks with shields and railguns, helicoptors with rapid fire railguns, missiles and teleportation, and one-hit-kill melees. Everyone can get access to them for free, but they cost a fuckton of points due the way they sort the packs. They reintroduced 6 of the helmets they removed from previous games, and you either have to pay 150,000 points, or $6 to get them.

Also, the "season pass" type thing was simply a set of 12 packs with random things inside, nothing unique at all. The only reason I got one is because the limited edition that came with it was actually cheaper than the standard on Amazon. I probably got $20 out of my time with it, but compared to the others I have no desire to go back.

Didn't the dumb bitch in charge of 343 supposedly get fired after Halo 5 bombed spectacularly?

At least one person at the top did, but I think Kiki Wolfkill is still there. She seems to be the problem.

what is milking a franchise

HALO NEEDS MORE ASIANS, WHY DOES Holla Forums NOT UNDERSTAND THIS?!?!

Fuck, i miss asian Anders,

Deja was a dumb AI, IIRC. All she could do was teach.

It was established from the begniiner that cortana was a specialist at breaking into and using alien systems, that's why she was chosen for RED FLAG to begin with.

Halo 5's SP being shit and no splitscreen are really 5's only issues. The core gameplay manages to add new things while excuting them well without intefering with even starts, the weapon balance is arguably the best in the series, there's more skilljumps and movement tech then ever, forge is almost a modding tool by this point, and the microtranstions fund the free DLC and are limited to cosmetics and a special shits and giggles mode that actually manages to implement them in a way that mostly avoids it being p2w.

Plus there's a free PC port that's just the MP and forge without the shit campaign or the aforementioned shits and giggles mode.
