Halo Wars 2 Xbone gameplay, looks the same as last time, Console RTS just doesn't work well.
I've been watching alot of replays from the newer C&C games, generals onwards.
shit makes it seem like there's one RTS community which has done nothing but shrank since it came about
AVP extinction is great and that's a console RTS, it's the only console RTS which I can say in all honestly that's good
Sad reality, seems like gaming in general is going through all the things hobbies suffer, fads come and go, still seeing the CnC RTS community going strong.
Not bad though, but some anons did argue if it was an RTS or RTT like DoW 2. Retaliation comes to mind, but it was pretty much scaled down, Warcraft 2 also.
Console RTS could work, but it needs to be correctly structured. For a good example of a game that uses very simple controls, go track down Space Federation/Star Reach (both names should work). It's a space RTS that uses four buttons to move the cursor and two buttons to select and cancel. With such an environment, you would normally only be able to control one unit at a time, but the game features space ports that can stock up to 8 units and order them all at once.
Also the N64 version of C&C was neat. You pressed Z to call up the side bar to produce additional units/buildings, and that sidebar itself is a good method to simplify the burden of managing production.
That being said, a console RTS won't be as good as a PC RTS.
A proper Halo RTS would use the framework established by the FPS. I've said it in other RTS threads.
Posting the best one. I just googled some pics for it and discovered it's out on steam, can it be played online?
That would be amazing.
You should be able to find an open source version.
Gameplay wise it could work, just doesn't catch on, still remember Red Alert 3 on PS3 and the 360, the N64 version was pretty neat, just kinda stupid they made the game suffer by changing everything to 3D models that stutter the game so often.
Here you go zod.sourceforge.net
you know if the guys from westwood that actually mattered got together for a kickstarter it'd break star shilions records
it needs a sequel, that's what I'd argue
