What I imagine a post-singularity world looking like is more than just blind hedonism or a "hug box".

Looking at games now, and more importantly the tools used for creating them, I think it is very possible in our near future we will be designing virtual worlds for our consciousnesses to inhabit without the constraints of reality… essentially imagination given form.

There will be those who chose not to participate in this world, and that's okay. And there will also be those who chose to put themselves into a state of eternal orgasm, and that's okay too.

But I don't think that's what the vast majority of what people will be doing.

The vast majority of us will be playing "video games" (as usual), just… a lot more.. real. Look around your room for a moment. That real.

There will be single-player games, the AI just real enough to give the impression of life, but will just be essentially extremely convincing Chinese Rooms. Making them actually "sentient" I hope will be illegal and too resource intensive to accomplish in large numbers anyways. We just need them real enough to play within a story/experience, and nothing more.

If consciousness could be created, copied, and pasted, this would be very, very fucking bad.

Anyways, there will also be cooperative games, you and a couple buds can D&D on a whole new level. Start a quest at a tavern, slay a dragon, save the princess (fuck the princess).

And there will be multiplayer too, for us gods to challenge and test themselves in fair combat.

I see this world less as being a hedonistic existence and more as a freeing of the consciousness to do whatever the hell it pleases, in a safe environment, without the tyranny of politicians, and where the only real power will be your imagination.

And all of this, I hope, without the constraint of time as these games will run much, much faster than real time. Our consciousness will be able to experience thousands of years in just a fraction of a second, meaning we will never die.

I plan on worldbuilding for a few thousand years, making stories mostly centered around the monomyth, playing other worlds/experiences others have created, and then settling down like this and maybe smoke some pot with the wife before killing myself.
