Gaming Laptop

I want to build a Gaming PC, but I move around a lot, and I fear it would be too cumbersome. Would a Gaming Laptop be a viable thing to build?

Is this bait? This must be bait.

Definitely, building your own laptop from scratch is actually pretty easy if you know how.
You can even use desktop PC components.

You don't need a "gaming laptop" you can play 85% of games that are worth playing on a toaster. Gaming laptops are heavy, often have cooling/noise problems, are usually ugly as sin and due to the move towards planned obsolescence in modern consumer electronics, will probably shit the bed in 3 years or less.

Look into getting a second hand Thinkpad.

No, you can't really build laptops.
As for gaymen PCs how much do you move? You can make a micro ATX that is pretty small making the monitor the hardest thing to move.

It can be done, but if you're asking the question there's no way you lack the technical know-how to do so.

...

Yeah, fucked that one up. Was supposed to be have. It's 5am user no bully.

I change location every 2-3 weeks regularly. Sometimes it's for shorter strings of days as well, but it depends on time of year.

Not on my current potato, I'd bet. But what do you recommend?

I did that for a couple of years, get a laptop but don't fall for the gaymen laptop meme. Get a basic laptop and play older games.

Oh, I know. That's why I asked if it were viable to build a decent one myself, but according to the response here, building a Laptop is a far more difficult process than I initially believed. I'll look into the Micro ATX, thanks user.

There's some companies that let you customize a laptop, but that just ends up being even more expensive.

Definitely. I move twice a week from city to city, so I have such a laptop. The only negatives compared to a PC is that overheating is a thing (meaning you need to clean the thing properly at least once a year. Having a cooling pad is also nice) and that you can't really upgrade it as easily as with a PC. It's 3 years old right now, and I was on a budget when I bought it so I skimped a bit on the GPU (GeForce GT 750M), yet I can still run pretty much anything out there on low settings.

Seriously, though, overheating IS a thing. You won't believe how big a one until you actually get such a laptop – try to get one with a good cooling, even if you had to get a slightly worse GPU because of it, and you'll save yourself a lot of headache later on

Short answer: No
Long answer: No, because only a select few outlets sell laptop components, and they're mostly meant to repair a system. You could technically buy them all seperatly and build a system but you'd pay more and your system would have a high chance of being unstable.

Fuck Micro-ATX. If you really want actual portability, look into Mini-itx.

It's completely impractical to build a laptop but if you really can't get a desktop and want a laptop that has more than integrated graphics clevo/sager models are the most cost-efficient. They also look like regular laptops and don't come with the 500$+ GAYMER tax if you find a decent distributor.

However unless you're emulating anything past n64 or playing some AAA bloated game you really won't need the dedicated card and can get by with an ex-business laptop for a few hundred dollars. I guess there are also some decent ps3/xbox games getting ports that aren't optimised well enough to run on integrated graphics.

Get a laptop with a i7HQ processor

heating issues with that your ram will not be optimized and there is/ will be a ram cap pc>lappy for computational power and hence games

Are there any that have a sturdy handle built in on top?

My friend built one in an old briefcase, I forgot how he did it but definitely did it and it looked hilarious

Not really if you're intending on playing newer games. Honestly, I would get a small, carry-on bag and either store a mini ITX/micro ATX computer in it or, though I haven't heard of anyone doing this, build the computer inside the bag. It'd also be good if you were to do either of these things to mount the GPU on its side using a PCIe extender so the GPU doesn't jostle around so much when traveling. Note that you won't be able to upgrade with more PCIe cards if you get an ITX motherboard, but I would think it to be difficult to upgrade a micro ATX computer if you mount the GPU like I said.

Yes

Build a desktop and buy a cheap laptop for your mobile needs. This will only cost you a few hundred $s or £s more and you'll end up with two specialised machines rather than one half-arsed pile of shit.

Buy a Thinkpad. Anything made before the X230/T430/T530, those are shit.

Just lug your PC around you weakling manlet. I have enough fans to make the thing hover, 2 gpus, 2 hard drives and a case made out of steel from the 80s and i can still carry the thing no issue.

You should make a PC Backpack. Stick the tower on your back.

You should check out xoticpc.com.

I have a Clevo W150ER. It's 15 inches with a GT650m and upgraded 1080p screen. I should have bought a gtx670m laptop, and I regret it everyday, but I love it otherwise and will never get another desktop.

The next laptop I get will be the biggest and most powerful I can afford with the best cooling I can find. No gimmicks like optimus or any powersaving dogshit. Just fucking power I can haul around.

Just get a used laptop. Mine is 6 years old, has intel hd 3000 igpu, and runs linux. It can play all the good stuff. It can't play modern garbage though.

Daily reminder that you don't need a dedicated gpu in this day and age unless you're a good goy with shit taste in vidya.

If you move around a lot just get a cheap laptop to play older games. You won't be missing out on the garbage being released currently anyway. A buddy of mine thinks he's hot shit for spending $1200 of his parents money on some ridiculous ibuypower computer. Every time my other friend mentions that he wants to build a PC for $500 he gets laughed at. Don't be like my friend who wasted all that fucking money just to play trash like overwatch.

my bad if it sounds like blogpost, just woke up so I'm really groggy

You are asking in the wrong place. The place for right asking is elsewhere. Building anything is hard and it requires effort. Effort is your nemesis you lazy fuck. It will hunt you down if you try to make something out of yourself. Try Ninpo.

good at soldering? diy cases? do you like splinters?

I'm dissapointed.
