It's unfortunate that S2 sucks ass. Out of all LN volumes released so far, the one it's adapting right now is likely the worst. The comedy doesn't hit as hard and the 'plot' is poop comparatively. Combined with the assugly animation and QUALITY, it just ends up being very disappointing.

Oh well. It'll probably still sell well. Hopefully there'll be a S3, because that'll be when the original material starts to really stand on its own and get good.

Nigger I watched Long Riders last year. True S2 is pretty shit compared to the best things out there, but the worst things are just as far from it as it is from the best.

It's got nowhere to go but up. MN9 is just utter mediocrity, nothing to speak of. Honestly so does this but it seems like they at least tried to do it in line with the source material, so it has some merit.

On a technical level it's a gold standard: very little QUALITY, and excellent animation work that captures the source material perfectly (whether you like it, is again, another issue).

That's your hang-up. It's one of my favourite anime in terms of visual styling.

I agree that it doesn't exactly make it acceptable overall, but having experienced worse things, especially so recently, will certainly adjust my expectations and standards a bit. Its no different from pairing ugly with meh to look attractive or adding holocaust jokes to get penis jokes by censors. Having experienced better things recently too puts it right at this mid-point where I can say "yeah, it's not the best, but it's good enough".
I really just wanted an excuse to post LR because holy shit that was horrible. They probably spent their entire budget on overpriced bike models and accessories

You are right, static 3/4 view face shots with flapping mouth is the pinnacle of the medium.

The animation, or the entirety? I skipped it because it was similar enough to Bakuon which I was not a fan of, and also because I was watching 47 anime that season. Something had to give, and LR was one of them.

Didn't seem that bad from the synopsis though. Cute girls doing cute things with a biking gimmick. Couldn't have been too terrible.

Both. It pretty much served as one long Bakuon joke in that cyclists only care about how much they spent on their bike, with Fang and Alpaca pulling everyone they could into the monetary pit of despair that is bicycles.
If you want cute girls doing cute things with bicycles then Minami Kamakura Koukou Joshi Jitensha-bu is what you want to be watching. Hell, its worth watching solely for background porn.

How? She's a one-tricky pony. You know how every Darkness scene goes from the instant the camera focuses on her. Most of the characters are true to archetype, but at least with Megumin they manage to shake it up a good bit each time

Darkness was less grating in the LN, I like her mostly because I have a soft spot for female knights.
It's a shame Chris is the true best girl
