Not if you were a fan of Alien and Aliens. It's effectively a walking simulator that's extremely pretty and immensely true to the source material. The most fun I've had in the game is, ironically, through using a mod (on PC, naturally) to turn off the Xeno's AI. Without the Xeno running around, enemy humans and robots are your primary threats and the game basically becomes Routine.

Certainly worth $20-ish on Steam if you've got a 670 or higher and can make it look good.

I don't think that's it. I think the west is obsessed with "realism" and couldn't accept humanoid 50ft robots that dance around like ballerinas. Western mechs have clunky walks and leave crater footprints and are just tanks with a wider range of terrain capability, because that's what mechs would be if the IRL military engineered them into existence. Look at every western adaptation of a cartoon, or anime, or 80's property. Everything that was fantastical and colorful and chunky gets transformed into a grey, detailed mess grounded in our current understanding of physics. Even our attempts at Godzilla go way too far into the science of how and why he exists, when it's not the point of the movie.
Westerners can't into suspension of disbelief.

Forgot to mention, the reason Pacific Rim was so good was because they threw that realism shit out the window. Even though there were scientists in the movie, they didn't elaborate on how or why the jaegers worked, and only went into the kaiju as much as the plot required. The explanation was "Giant monsters showed up so humanity built giant robots to fight them" and the most exposition we ever got on the Jaegers made absolutely no sense anyway. "50 diesel engines per muscle strand" - what the fuck does that even mean? They gloss over it because who cares, we have a fight scene to get to.
