Yeah, but only if used correctly. I've seen Junkrats get their tires popped, Hanzos whiff their dragons, Reapers melt during death blossom, etc. There are a few ults that are pretty hard to fuck up, though, like Mei's, but those are more the exception than the rule.

To be fair, there are ultimates that cheapen the experience, mostly the auto-aim ones and resurrection.

Or a "good job sucking" button in the case of resurrection, it got me thinking, no ultimate should negate the other team's efforts like that, it would be way less stupid if resurrection was a timed buff that literally refilled your health as soon as you lose it all.

But just like D.Va's ult, you can just line of sight him. That's my usual MO when I hear his or that cowboy fag's ult cue.

Still, it literally holds the hand of the user, if you ask me it would have been better if it did the following.

How to fix Pharah- remove her jumpjets. Straight up, remove her ability to have any vertical fuel based movement entirely. She should be able to glide with space and launch with Shift, but she should not be able to maintain height. I am sick of Pharah spending 90% of her time in the sky.

Don't forget that normally in most games that have support abilities when CTF is introduced then those abilities can't be used when the flag is acquired. Doing so usually makes you drop it.

So can someone explain to me why the fuck can Tracer still do her dash shit AND HOLD ONTO THE FLAG? Also that Genji can do his sword dash thing and still hold onto it too? I stopped playing OW for at least a month and came back to check with this new shit. Played one round of CTF and now I remember why I stopped playing.

I give them a pass on movement abilities because TF2 had Scout who was faster than everyone else and he didn't slow down when transporting the case as far as I remember. But in TF2 the maps were better with alternate routes, and the flags were NEAR THE TEAMS' RESPECTIVE SPAWNS. The distance you have to travel to score in Overwatch CTF is almost fucking negligible, making movement powers far more broken than they really should be.

I've only won a single CTF match so far, and we completely steamrolled the enemy team after fucking up their spawn timing. The match was over in about 90 seconds. Almost all of the rest have been draws.

Well it does look weird, like there's a vertex missing or something. It looks like you can see a part of her model just behind the small of her back that you shouldn't be able to. That said, her anatomy doesn't seem messed up, just the dress.

they should make spawns faster and closer so it cant end in like a minute, and also when no one takes anything have overtime increase everyone's movement speed by like 500%. also remove the sit time to take the flag and just make it instant

but some characters like winston and sombra are ridiculously perfect for this game mode so i just dont think it will ever work

CTF should have a way to motivate the people to get out of their flag zone instead of waiting for the last 30 seconds to do something. I played around 15 matches last night and almost half of them ended in a draw. On top of that I got duplicates and shit drops for the loot boxes I earned.

Also the current state of some heroes being more effective than others at carrying can be solved by disabling all abilities and ults as long as you carry the flag. And maybe reduce the movement speed for any non-tank hero.

And if the skill of the players on your team is on average lower than on the enemy team, they will lose 1v1 duels more often, which means your team will lose team fights more often. you know as well as i do that turtling is and always was a desperation tactic for people who arent confident enough to make plays or not useful enough to coordinate with teammates.
once you get some teammates who know what theyre doing, or god forbid succeed in wrangling those meatheads yourself, youll find that barriers including meis wall are what wins these matches and that turrets mostly exist to thwart sombra.

If it was grab and go, fast heroes like Tracer and Genji would be a must and the game would be a competition out of who has the fastest player in his team, it would be infinitely worse.
With the requirement that you have to capture it first, defense is at least possible and you can't just sneak one person there while everyone else is busy defending their own.
It's a smart move and quite possibly the only way they could make this work.

They could just add a slowing effect on the flag. Movement abilities like tracer blink/winston leap would still work, but because of the slow you would still be able to be caught and would generally require the help of your team to survive.

or you know, disable all abilities on the flag carrier.

Sombra would be kind of broken though, since you could stealth into the flag and then teleport back instantly. I'm not entirely sure you can't do that as is.

They tried that but the game isn't really balanced for it. Other than the fact that it "doesn't feel like overwatch" it makes characters that are reliant on their abilities worthless as flag carriers compared to say, a tank or McLeftClick

Except, as I said, base defenses make grabbing with anybody but a tank impossible. Having to consider less meaty characters in your defensive plan would open up gameplay more. The game wouldn't require faster characters it would require more tactics from the defense besides having a Symmetra and Torb. The game is already lacking in movement options and overall game speed, why make it even more slow?

3 v 3 would probably be more balanced and would allow for more gameplay opportunities since team comp would be flexible, for instance your team could set up to have 2 attackers and 1 defender, or go 1 attacker and 2 defense, or do some sort of 1 attacker - 1 escort - 1 defender deal. I feel like with anything more than 4 on each team, with the way they set up the maps and how flag capturing works, it just doesn't work out.

with 6v6 you can also try different setups as well, the problem is, most of the time everyone is defending and no one attacks until someone breaks and it ends on 1 - 0 most of the time, the main problem is not being able to capture the flag instantly and how fast you can reset it.

I remenber that in 5v5 for UT, keeping at least 2 players behind to defend, maybe 3 if you were losing was the norm and they could catch up easily with the translocator. Carrying the flag was never a case of some sneaky faggot taking it and running faster than everyone else, that was pretty much impossible with the translocator and sinous routes giving the advantage for the defending team, but rather a team effort of escorting your flag carrier and keeping him defended.

Currently once a Genji captures the flag is almost impossible to recover it.

It really depends on what rank you are and what level everybody else is. I don't mind Bastions as long as they don't just set up at one point and stay there for longer than a minute, or aren't trying the stupid Rein-Mercy-Bastion combo that never works because it leaves everybody else to fend for themselves and to heal. Even offensive Bastion can be of use at some points (the opening of Anubis for example) if it's in the hands of a good player.

Generally your team can't jetpack across the map the moment they get the flag. Tribes is a notable exception, but I wouldnt exactly say it's a similar game.

By trying to play CTF on a KOTH map, of course it's not gonna work if the flags are like 20m away from each other and there is only 1 effective route.

There is another problem with OW CTF, usually, the flag is supposed to sit BEHIND a spawn point so the defenders have a chance to intercept the flag, but in OW is the opposite, this makes camping on the flag an optimal and cheap strategy.

Not necessarily true, UT has the flag well after your spawn but it's offset because you have a Translocator and there are multiple curved paths that force the carrier to go through a longer path that translocator-able people can bypass easily.

It's always a matter of picking a method that gives the defenders some kind of edge over the other team, which for Overwatch seems to be having to cap. It's not that bad, but they surely could have made this better by, for example, reversing the flags.

If you had to take yours and plant it in your oponent's base, even having to sit there for a few seconds, the fight would be a tug of war with teams pushing against each other.

I thought the hook pulling you out of cover made sense though, it's attached to a chain so of course it could pull you around a corner

The problem wasn't that the hook could pull you out of cover, it was that it could connect while you're in cover because the game simply checked wether you're inside the hitbox and the hook itself can see you.
While kooking someone out of cover generally makes sense, the hook as to connect first. Seeing as Rodhog, unlike a normal being, instantly pulls the target once the hook connects even if it's a 2ton mech with jetboosters, that cannot normally occur

Just feel like mentioning that overall the changes to Roadhogs Hook are actually a buff. Yes he doesn't get quite as many bullshit hooks, but the hooks he does get are much more lethal now as the game does a much better job of putting the target at the ideal spot for him to shoot. I haven't tested it personally but I think even Ana needs to fear the hook now.

Fortunately they are planning to change DVa's defensive matrix so that it can reliably block close-range shots, which includes blocking Roadhog's hook combo shot, meaning that DVa should soon be able to reliably save hooked targets like Zarya can.

I guess the problem with that scenario is that D.Va has to be close to the pig while the pig ignores her and hooks something else, at wich point she's probably blasting him to hell anyway.
Zarya has a much greater range with her shield and can shield a traget mid-hook.

There is this cool function in ranked where there is a number assigned to each player that can be used to determine skill.

To be fair, that number says nothing else but how many games they have won or lost on average, there is also smurf accounts and the like, SR in Overwatch is a joke.

SR has very little to do with actual win-loss rate. It's possible to climb SR with less than a 50% win rate and very few people are 40/60 or worse.

It goes down with losses and up after a win, looks pretty straightforward for me.

If you win a game and then lose a game, does your SR go down, go up, or stay the same? The answer varies from player to player and that answer, more so then how many games you win or lose, tends to determine your ultimate rank.

It's not that straightforward, actually. It also depends a lot on your individual performance.
If you do a great job with whatever heroes you chose, you'll lose less in defeats and win more in victories.
So if you're actually skilled, after a loss and a win, you'll still go up in rank.

Conversely, if you fail really hard, a single loss will take away the progress you won with several victories.
So yeah, the SR is actually quite on point after you've played some matches. I'd say the beginning of every season is kinda fucky since people are still adjusting their rank (but it's not as bad since it soft-starts you with your previous rank) and also because of smurfs or boosters. But after a month or so, pretty much everyone is where they should be, like it or not.

My average last season was about +5 more per win than I lost. That's not counting streaks, I tended to win about 25-30 points and lose about 20-25 points.

I haven't really bothered tracking it this season but I have a noticeably below 50% winrate still holding steady.
