Oh, I remenber seeing a few videos about that game. It was about a character that was supposely going through the shooting of a cheesy sci-fi film.
Dunno if the plot twist was that it was all true but he didn't knew or the reverse. It seemed kinda generic as a videogame but if the aesthetics are what you want, it certainly fills the role.

I suppose this kind of thing doesn't happen more often because it's not trendy at all nor has it a reason to.
It's too cheesy for proper sci-fi, with a lot of details not even being explained with pseudo-science but at the same time too dramatic and comic for low-brow sci-fi.
The aesthetics also seem like something you'd see in a porn movie. A gay one.

It's actually pretty cool but you'd need very good voice acting, music and sound to pull off the proper idea behind this, as well as having a really good screenwriter that can come up with pseudo jargon talk for it. "I'm re-routing the turbo capacitor to overcharge the ultra solenoid in the magneto inducer!" kinda stuff.
And you'd need to heavily compensate with character expression so the manliness (or sexiness) is still there despite the clothing.
